@@mr.jogger8346 Do you feel like you "need" the artist? Or is the regular 100 plenty? I used to have the artist but this time I'd like the 100 for the lower weight
By far the best demo on UA-cam IMHO! Great tone and player. And what a relief to hear punchy clean tones rather than …well you know! Thanks for this! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Nothing wrong with the demo, but seriously (and I mean no offense): Boss should have published this under their name - a publication should never publish verbatim marketing gibberish as editorial content, as there is none. This is an ad, start to finish.

This is not a 100 watt amp. It draws 77 watts from the wall so it cannot be. My oscilloscope shows that it outputs 64 watts at 8ohms and less than 50 watts at 16ohms. All speakers are measured by RMS and so are all reputable amplifiers. This amp uses a mostly imaginary “peak power” number.
@@mrbas5150 OMG! 🤪🤪 I will not change my opinion about guitar players and enthusiasts being a truly opinionated bunch! Sometimes actually bordering on being jerks or worse. Truth be told, unless it's a point to point wired boutique amp utilizing the utmost scrutiny in manufacting, there will be descrepencies in the actual wattage. If you dropped into your local music store and measured across several identical amps, you would not get the same results. My first amp was a Peavey Pacer. God rest its soul! :-( I kept blowing speakers and could not understand why. Then, an amp tech measured the actual wattage and it was 60 watts. Well no wonder. DURRRRRR. The moral of the story is. Unless you pay a lot of money for boutique amp, be prepared to experience inconsitencies in manufacturing. Maybe you should send a nice email to Boss and correct them? Who knows, it might just work and they would go back and spend thousands of dollars correcting the owners manual. It's worth a shot. :-) Cheers
@@wantaprs This is not an issue with consistency in manufacturing. This is obvious since they print on the back that the "100 watt amp" only draws 77 watts from the wall. It's an issue with lies in marketing.
The solo boost is useless without a footswitch and i dont even know if the footswitch does it. But whos gonna stop before a solo and press a button on the amp... no one... I'll use my clean boost pedal
The solo boost is obviously footswitchable. The thing is that the footswitch is sold separately, but even a generic latching footswitch works with the amp for the most basic functions (Preset 1/2 and Solo Boost). I made one myself.
The entire Katana thing is better considered to be modeller of moderate ability with a speaker attached is all, the so called bypass is silly because those of us who know most assuredly know any half decent modeller at minimum requires full range or a two way cab to let it do it's thing properly. If they put a switchable tweeter on the output behind the grill cloth it would be a little monster for sure. It's could be done as a slight mod afterwards I suppose, the best modeller Boss have ever released is still without doubt the GT-1....end of report! I'm personally running a GT-1 into a pair of killer P.A.. 15'' 2 way cabs with an original Boss FA-1 as the only missing sorcery on the chain and it's more than already been murdering every boutique rig available....tubes included!
I had the first version of the Katana and a Roland Cube from almost 20 years ago sounded better. I kept the Katana long enough that when I tried to sell it, no one wanted to buy it. Mk II was out for as cheap as I bought mine. I had to give it away. Seriously, I gave it to a friend. They tried to play a gig with it and it wasn't loud enough for a church gig without a drummer. I was embarrassed that I gave the guy my Katana. Most of my pedals are Boss and I love them, but I really dislike this amp.
I have a 5 piece band and our lead guitar uses a MKII 50 watt and our keyboard player also playing guitar and he has a MKII 100 watt. When we have gigs in smaller venues where the amps aren’t mic’d, they come through load and clear with absolutely no problems cutting through the mix. Most of our gigs are in medium size venues and we mic everything anyway. I would think that most people who play in medium to large venues are doing the same.
Why do you think they are in the worse place? If the amp is sitting on the floor and you’re looking through stage lighting, it’s much easier to see those controls if they’re on top of the amp. I love my Fender Blues JR and the controls are on the top. I guess I just don’t understand your reasoning, not saying it’s wrong but I think it’s user preference.
A lot of obviously ad videos on YT. Their sales of Gen 3 must be not that good as expected... No wonder. It's just not worth an upgrade. So mostly people who don't have katana yet are buying. No rapid spike in sales therefore. As a mk2 owner I anticipated stuff like: - Ability to set different tones settings for different booster/compressor types (green, red, orange) - More GA/FC functions, like switching booster types, why should I buy AIRSTEP for this? - Ability to assign min/max values also for knobs like booster, mod, fx. - Ability to playback sound through PRIMARY input with a speaker, turning katana in platform for third party amp sims, or bypass internal amp section completely for that sake. - Ability to disable internal cab-sim completely for line-out/PRIMARY-out. All in all it's a great amp, I will highly recomend it for those who dont have original or mk2
That guitar is cool though! As you pointed out Hendrix played a right handed guitar flipped but strings were stil low strings on the thumb side. The guitar in the vid recreates the same vibe in a right handed guitar, where the bridge pickup has the pole piece on the low string closer to the bridge and the pole piece on the treble strings being further up the string, like Hendrix's flipped guitar! Also the string tension is going to be a bit different with the low string being longer from bridge to tuning peg as well as the high string being shorter from bridge to tuning peg. Pretty cool I think as that is going to get you even closer to Hendrix's setup for those wantig that detail!

I had a Katana Mk II head with the 2x12 cab and it gave my Twin Reverb a run for its money. Boss's stuff is quite good and the class AB power section really makes a huge difference. I didn't like the stock Katana speakers, but went with an Eminence Texas Heat and a Swamp Thang in the same cab and it was a killer amp setup.

Probably just my ears, but I didn't hear any real distinction between the speaker settings other than modern sounded a bit brighter.
I have the MK2 and there is a bit amount of distinction between those 3. Personally I like the vintage the most.
The contour settings all sounded identical to me, also.
@@TownshendFan68 Yea, they do sound alike. One is just more louder than the other - slightly
Apparently Eddie Van Halen “created” and amp sound…the “brown” sound that is industry recognized…really amazing if ya think about it!!!
Lol
Hardly... it was just 'created' by running the amp on a variac to drop the voltages and for sure vanhalen was NOT the first to do that.
Hopefully they put a better speaker in this version

It’s still so loud I never use the 100watt setting. 50watt is loud enough to hear easily above loud drummers!
