Thanks Clint! Your tutorial is well-explained and easy to follow. The Unwrap editor is something that has always been difficult and it's nice to have such clear explanations.
This is actually the best tutorial about unwrapping. Thank you bud. You described every step in full detail. Thanks. Keep uploading tutorials like this.
Thanks for this video. I was practically ripping my hair out trying to figure out a handful of things you just breezed over and explained like it was nothing. Haha.
Hey Clint, does this all work for this workflow: Sketchup Pro 2016 > 3D Studio Max 2017 > Cities Skylines Asset Editor > Cities Skylines game? The issue I am having is when I import my model of the World Financial Center into 3DS from Sketchup it looks cool! Then I use the UVW unwrap and flatten mapping, and the textures come out all zoomed and horrible. So I render to texture as a diffuse map and put into my paint program, but the textures still look like shit. ANy tips buddy?
Clint, thank you so much! It saves my project at many levels. The lessons at school was not that clear. Amazing tutorial, I recommend it to everybody who wants to make "peace" with UVW MAP ;)
Hey Clint do you have a tutorial o animating characters with the clothes that you model on them but i am not talking about cloth. I am talking about when you detach the geometry from the mesh its self. if you could help me out with that i would appreciate it.
Hello, thank you for videos. They're very helpful. I have a question regarding the red polygon selections. When I am in Unwrap UVW, my polygons do not appear red but rather have two yellow boxes and a yellow normal when selecting on the model. Is there a way to correct this? I probably just toggled a hotkey and would really prefer the red polygons as they are easier to see. And the F2 hotkey is not responding, but is still the default for Viewport Shade selected faces. Thank you.
Never mind! I managed to turn on viewport shade selected faces through the viewport options, but then everything was red. Turns out before you add the modifier, you have to be at the top-level and have no sub-object selections on. So I added an edit poly modifier, then another unwrap UVW modifier and now I can select with red faces! Thank you again for your tutorials.
imperialphoenix I am glad you got it all figured out. A good general rule of thumb is to never have any sub objects selected unless you want to apply a particular modifier to only part of an object. This makes it possible for us to add modifiers to only a portion of a selected object, but can also really mess things up if we forget to turn off our sub object selection before adding a modifier.
At the very bottom of the modify tab settings, there is a "Configure" rollout with the Unwrap UVW modifier selected. In there is a check box for Map Seems. Uncheck to turn off the green seam lines.
what units are you using? Your units are not showing. I was using meters and there is a "m" at the end of my numbers and every time I change the units 3ds Max shows it next to my numbers eg cm, yours does not? Why does your 1024 x1024 image fit perfect with your box? I needed to put on a uvw map, even after trying every unit type.

Thank you , this is one of the little videos that actually helped me understand exactly how to break down the mesh and work with it
