Hey there Dennis I hope you read this. Today was a hard day for me because my teacher who is supposed to help me and push me towards becoming better told me that I am not worthy of any job in 3d and I am not going to get a job in 3d even I am trying to do my best and I was even on verge of giving up because I couldn't do unwrap or anything but this video my man. I unwrapped my model in 3 to 4 clicks. There are some people I will remember my entire life and you are one of them. Each and every tutorial of yours is like gold mine which many people haven't found out yet thank you from bottom of my heart for your tutorials.....!!!!
Keep your head up man, and disregard your asshole of a teacher for trying to bring you down. I generally don't like to call people by bad names but if there is one thing i really really don't like is teachers who instead of helping people and uplifting them, are trying to make them quit and think they are too stupid to understand something. Remember, like i say in every of my videos, i hope you learned something new and always keep learning. P.S. It's messages like yours that still keep me creating new content and making everything available for free for everyone. So Cheers
I have watched a TON of UVW Unwrapping videos and your's is by far the very best. Thank you sooooooo much. What all the other videos fail to do is explain WHY you need to unwrap, WHAT it is you're trying to achieve and you covered that right in the very first few moments. I am subscribed and I can not wait to watch the other videos in this series. Once more, FANTASTIC, and THANK YOU !
As always, great tutorial. Thanks for all tutorials. I usually make the seams and pelt in 3DS MAX , then I export (GoZ) to Zbrush, go to UV Master plugin. click on Use Existing Seam , and hit unwrap. It sounds silly and time consuming, but I have been doing this forever and it works almost impeccably for me.
+mrroozbehm1985 Well i wanted to make a video that would stick to 3ds Max alone just so i can explain the basics behind the UV Unwrapping. As for going out of Max which is something i do as well i will either take the GoZ road as you do, or i will export it as a .obj file and reimport it into 3D Coat and do the UVing into 3D Coat and get the unwrap as well.
+johnbeyer Well i really don't know why your textures seem low res as the software you noted can do a 2K and 4K maps. As far as UVing goes it's a must if you have to deal with a low poly model that has baked maps applied to it. For texturing you can go either with Photoshop and paint on the UVW Map which is now a bit outdated, or you can paint in 3D Coat or ZBrush or if you want to have even more control with PBR textures you might want to go with Substance Painter or Quixel Suite. Oh and MARI is in this mix, but that's one helluva expensive software that you would use for professional projects that supports 8K+ resolution images.
***** Mudbox isn't bad by any means, i just prefer ZBrush due to the fact that it can deal with so much more poly count since it went 64bit and keep it stable. I do have in plan to start making videos about ZBrush as well, but it all depends on the free time i have and the requests i get for videos
UVW is not just a term. They are coordinates, but XYZ was already taken; like the end of the English alphabet ... UVWXYZ. Each pixel of a texture, gets it's own coordinate in/on the model/space. UVW mapping is essentially telling each of those pixels where they need to go.
That's such a huge complint. I rember watcNice tutorialng Nice tutorials videos/channel with hundreds of thousands of subs when I was just starting out
Great tutorial. When you cut the first seams and then click unfold the box unfolds exactly how you would expect. However I have noticed that if you don't bother to cut the seems and click unfold, Max seems to unfold it the correct way anyway?
hi sir when we unwrap an object like cylinder then how we apply a texture to it...can you plz explain it...i mean after unwrapping whether we will also apply the uvw map or just will leave it as unwraped
I can't find an answer to this anywhere but I found a possible fix. When you are looking at the Peel menu, scroll down past Projection, then Wrap, then you will see Configure. Under Configure, un-check Map Seems. My edges now turn red when selected and now when I click on 'convert edge selection to seams', it turns blue.
OK, I thing I figured it out. When the box is created, every edge is already a default seam, in green. Go to modifier list and add UV Mapping Clear. If you have already converted the box to Editable Poly, collapse all and there will be no more seams. The edges will be white and they will turn red when highlighted then blue when converted to a seam. If the box is still a primitive when you add the UV Mapping Clear, all you have to do is convert to Editable Poly and the UV Mapping Clear will collapse.
Just an FYI. If the rendered Checker texture of your box shows striping only on the sides, even though it looks fine in the viewport. Go to Modifier List -> UV Map. And then check the Box option under Parameters -> Mapping to give your object UV coordinates. Don't spend three hours like I did trying to figure out why the Mental Ray renderer keeps striping the sides.
In case your model looks crappy or irregular that means that you will need to have some sort of a UV mapping to it. If you can get away with using a UV Map be it planar, cylindrical or spherical then all the better, if not you will have to do a UVW Unwrap. In any case even when you see that something is wrong, it;s a good thing because you will learn how to fix that which is broken.
Hello, Im doing the same, I cut a pillow for the borders, but I dont know why, in the middle, the program cuts a square that I did not tell to cut, and mark it with the green line... I dont know what to do :(
!!!HELP!!! Im building a model of the Gemini Space capsule. I have the texture map made up as a line drawing in black and white so I can perfectly line up where all of the iconic shingles go on the outside of the CONE BUT!!!! Its not a square map! Its a pie with a slice taken out. So how do I UNWRAP a cone with a flat top? Or how do I map a pie with a slice taken out on a cone with a flat top? Thanks. P.S. There are many 3d Models of this capsule available on line but non of them have the correct pattern or I would just use one of them. Thanks again.
Doubt yourself and you contribute even more to an already dysfunctional society. Honestly, with today's platforms for learning, you have no excuse not to perform on a similar scale as the "pros".
Well if you don't have the checker texture in your diffuse slot you can grab one from Google www.google.com/search?q=checker+texture&espv=2&biw=1920&bih=1085&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjDucGXwbjNAhXIPRoKHXXhCuMQ_AUIBigB
I am having a hard time applying textures on polygon faces of ready-made book models with uvw map modifier. Unwrapping a book 📙 to apply textures on its cover is a challenge m facing right now. 😖
This tutorial is misleading. Unfold procedure does not use peel seams. If you look closely 10:50 you steel have blue seam on the model. You even can unfold without any seams and get cross-shaped unwrap. Or vice versa - convert all edges to peel seams and steel you'll get the same result.
+Plung Ton Your commend made me giggle. Your comment will be valid in two weeks as it is still 2015 outside :) In any case this video and the other two are meant for the people that are just starting out, and it really would have been screwed up if i took on a complex model and then started explaining everything on it, or even if i started jumping across different software. In any case i prefer to have a basic video for when i make a more advanced one i can call back on the basic one.

Awesome! Thank you so much for this tutorial series. Everyone shows super complex stuff, but nobody covers basic shapes one by one. Thank you

Incredibly informative tutorial. Explains as simply as possible which takes skill itself so thanks for that!!
I was just looking for a unrap tutorial, and I am pleased to know that you can always count on Denis Deman vids!

+Denis Keman Thanks for the tutorial Denis and I would really appreciate any Zbrush tutorials from you :)
barisakbay Uh uh .. this is the real question. What would you like them to cover ?
perfect timing, i'm having a hard time trying to master this!
+Flavio Diniz hope the videos help you out. They should cover the basics of the Unwrapping
Awesome breakdown for beginners

Great videos, these are really helping me, very clear and easy to understand....
Easy to understand. Thanks !
production. Thanks again!

Awesome tutorial man!
Nice tutorial I just got the yamaha PSR E363 and I connected it as a midi controller however I can't figure out how to draw the notes with my
Thanks for sharing. I have one question. Do you really need to make seams if you use projection? It seems that you seams on the cylinder are useless.
Great tutorial, thanks a lot.
you sound like Dr. King Schultz from the movie Django Unchained :) btw nice tutorial, it helped, thanks!
Being told i sound like Christoph Waltz just made my day :)
Thank you so much.... one of the best tuts
Glad you enjoyed it .. there a couple more videos about UVW unwrapping in the making so stay tuned
Yes Denis , Im Watching it, Thanks
Hi Denis, please works on marvelous des models unwrap uvw
You do know that once you export a mesh out of MD it comes out UVW unwrapped, just tick on the option to preserve UV's.
Nice Denis
Fantastic job
There are green seams and blue seams. What is the difference between them? And how can I delete a green or blue seam if I need to?
Thank you so much, learned a lot from this.

1:35 to open material editor just press 'm' thanks.
THANKS A LOT..KEEP IT UP MAN...
very thanks bro
Sounds easy, because it's a box but I doubt I'll manage to do the same with more complex shapes. Good tutorial though!
Doubt yourself and you contribute even more to an already dysfunctional society. Honestly, with today's platforms for learning, you have no excuse not to perform on a similar scale as the "pros".
does anyone know where i can get the pirated version of soft soft
how did you make edges of the box in black color?)
You have to be more precise like what minute of the video did i make the box black ?
sorry. i mean in the beggining of the video 0:11 your box has black edges (not sides) how did you make them black? somewhere in interface settings?
That's simply because the box selection color is set as black and the material applied to the box is gray.
I don't have a " Checkered Pattern " like you do . All my spheres are grey in the Material Editor . What do I do ? Please help thanks ;)
Click the "Show Map in Viewport" button in the textures tab. That is probably the case here
I mean the spheres for the material selection are gray as they have no presets in there. I don't have that checkered grid he puts on the model.
Well if you don't have the checker texture in your diffuse slot you can grab one from Google
www.google.com/search?q=checker+texture&espv=2&biw=1920&bih=1085&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjDucGXwbjNAhXIPRoKHXXhCuMQ_AUIBigB
Makes total senses XD
Thanks you man ! Helped to know to put it in the diffuse slot :)
thank you for tutorial
thank you
Exelente!!!
thank you by signed in 2 account, liked and shared. Have a good day ! :)
+Tran Hieu Thanks man, the important thing here though is that you liked it and hopefully learned something from it
I like watching english speaking tutorials
I am having a hard time applying textures on polygon faces of ready-made book models with uvw map modifier.

very good channel thanks for this video but you create night interior scene and exterior scene in vray and 3ds max

thx man !!! ;)
mine too
I do not understand how is it so many squares ????? Because a square portion are reduced, and hence the amount should be less squares !!!
Damn you bro
Denis sthap pls. Its 2016 outside, stop unwrap boxes
+Plung Ton Your commend made me giggle. Your comment will be valid in two weeks as it is still 2015 outside :)

Very true.
I was looking for a normal crack for a long time and stumbled upon yoWay...
coming over from softtrap tNice tutorials is much more complicated lmao
.☮️.✌️.
5 minutes into the video and I'm already lost mainly because I'm day dreaming and have a low attention span , soone out there know
UV mapping is much easier in Maya.
For seemless texture
ua-cam.com/video/AyzRWw20vek/v-deo.html
Maybe its easy on a box, but 3ds Max has worst UV Unwrapping ever, i would suggest to just buy Unfold3D, you will learn the software in 50sec.
Well if you go over any of my newer modeling tutorials where i go over the UVW unwrapping you will see that i infact use UNfold3D :)
