As a man who loves engineering but has only a passing interest in railways I've only just discovered the Class 68. It's my new second favourite loco after the Deltic. This is based on the following principles... 1) It's very pretty. 2) There is no 2.
I would say that it is not traditionally beautiful, but it is still a handsome brute. I love it when you hear the traction motors kick in. I am also amazed that such an angry, thunderous beast like this could slip into way onto our railways, almost out of the blue, when low-carbon policies are in the mainstream of policy.
That 68 driver is a bit of a rev head! No need to roar around everywhere. Everything he does seems to be in notch 8, even approaching the red signal! Steady down 'Eddy'!
This side of signal is ours (drivers) the other sides the signalmans (intheshit) Showing off to neds....going to get him trouble at some point...up too him

Whoa! At a quick glance these engines resembles ex - Amtrak HHP-8 electrics! I'm enjoying this video great shots! 😀👏
Really like the 68 and a nice livery 😀👍
I saw one of these big old boys pulling a broken train on the Clacton on Sea line the other week,i heard it coming for miles :)
The 68's look too nice to be predominantly freight locos. Great video, mate. Thanks for sharing !
theyre used for alot of things i never thought id see them on, definitely didnt think id see a TPE liveried one at my local station!
@@locolovercharlie the TPE branded ones are sub leased from DRS so likely chance theyll get all over the place

Correct me if I'm wrong. Still learning. A "consist" is a consignment of empty wagons and a "manifest" is a consignment of full wagons?
Great video
Thanks!
Very well done
Thanks for sharing. Those 68s sound pretty awesome!
very nice video, like :)
intresitng video also liked and you just gained me as 1+ subscriber
I take it the open wagons had delivered ballast?
What's the horse power of this thing
3,800 bhp from generator; probably well over 3,000 bhp at the traction motors.
@@geraiswaiya2347 thanks that's alot of horse power
@@michaelsnedden6758 I believe its electric sister, the Class 88, has well over 5,000 bhp. But it doesn't sound as good as this one.
@@geraiswaiya2347 ok. I'm in Australia in Sydney n we have the 81 class which has 3200 BHP
@@geraiswaiya2347 our most powerful locomotives are based in western Australia n they have 6000 BHP. But they pull trains that are 7 kilometres Long

sounded good though! 😉
"That 68 driver is a bit of a rev head!"
It's just the 68 default sound, i.e. shit.
