Ori, Wraith, replicators (asurans), and Goa'uld were all enemies that emerged over humans because of the ancients. Either through using their tech, created by them, or arrogantly cast aside they all proceeded to rule over human worlds. That is why they owe them assistance. Merely cleaning up their mistakes.
I always pictured the conversation being "okay look, send me back and if I am worthy let me get here without omah's help." solves their problem of people being there they don't see as worthy yet and let's him has his fair chance without ascended interference.
The Ori story arc gave a fine explanation why the ascended ancients are seemingly so uncaring. Interfering, and using their power may not just cause a catastrophy amongst the lesser beings, but it might also put the seeds of god complex amongs their ranks. A few thousand years mean nothing to them.

At least, that is their rationalization. The Ori story arc, along with all the other arcs that went into detail about "ascended beings", made it clear that ascension has nothing to do with either goodness or wisdom, nor does it have anything to do with the afterlife. It's an upgrading of the body, with greatly enhanced ability to affect the physical world and to perform technical calculations. That may leave it desirable, but it is much less profound than it had originally been presented as.

Anubis being half ascended meant that technically Oma couldn't interfere with him (since he still partially resided in our realm of existence). She had to fully ascend him in order to fight them but since their power is roughly equal the battle would be a perpetual stalemate.

His limits were that he could not use ascended powers otherwise he would incur their wrath and they would eliminate him. What Omar did was to attack him and make him use his powers to defend himself. Forcing the others to take action against him for breaking the rules. He could use his ascended knowledge to conquer the mortal realms and do anything he could have done in his own mortal life.. Including ascend. Omar was the one who helped him ascend in the first place over 1000 years earlier and that is why she was charged with watching over him... Unable to do anything to stop him. Unwilling to kill him. Until Daniel helped her to understand Her duty.
That is such an important lesson to learn. "There's nothing you can do. You can't defeat me." "But I can." "You can't defeat me either." "It doesn't matter. You won't be able to do anything but fight me back." I've used this strategy to defend other people. Or even to defend myself (Or piss people off). Most people find it annoying to constantly battle you so they give up and go away. This episode was an eye opener for me and it's one of my favourite.
Like Data plating Origami with a master. He knew he couldn’t beat him but he could play him in a defensive manner without trying to win. The guy got very frustrated and quit.
In retrospect that is probably why the Ancients partially descended him because they knew a fully Ascended Anubis would be able to draw power from those who worshiped him. Though had they been smart they would have fully kicked him out like they did with Daniel.

It's just like the two Lazarus's on Star Trek: TOS who have to fight each other forever in the valve space between the matter and anti-matter universes.

Also the Armageddon arc from Spawn comics. At the very end, Spawn imprisoned God and Satan on a copy of Earth in a pocket universe (the latter two were unaware of this fact) where they battled each other in a perpetual stalemate, allowing humanity to be free from their interference. It was pointed out that they might've caught on to the ruse and worked together to escape said pocket reality if they'd just stopped fighting for a moment, but their extreme hatred of one another prevented them from seeing reason.
if they done this like a dream and memory sequence of Daniels previous ascension and current over the whole season, it would have been a great reveal, especially if there was more chit chat between Daniel and Jim and Jim descbribing his love of coffee and interest in Daniel's adventures
Others allowed Anubis to do anything he want except using his powers and on the other hand she is not allowed to destroy him. Everything to punish her. She redeem herself becouse she accepted death and end to her "work" to stop him.

Technically they're still alive. Anubis and Oma. Fighting it out there on some unknown, cosmic level. It would be fascinating if after all this time Anubis somehow won, came back and started again.
My guess is that the Ancients finally stepped in once Oma decided to committ the "selfless act" of locking Anubis in eternal battle so he couldn't hurt anyone else. I'm guessing they killed Anubis and sent Oma back to mortal form with no memory, much like she did with Daniel

So no, Anubis wasn't killed and the others didn't step in to save Oma and make her mortal and whatnot, they let this happen. They essentially lost one of their best to a pointless eternal fight between the two, because Oma had to learn her lesson. Well she did and this is the price.

Exactly. The concept of Q, like many others, was borrowed by Stargate in the form of "ascended ones". Just like the replicators are equivalent to the borg. Or Teal'c to Worf (somehow).

My buddy noticed that as well, and asked the producers about during a studio tour. They said that set was available for them to use, and was a lot faster and cheaper to borrow it than building their own from scratch.

The Q were never part of the universe, but rather an adjacent universe altogether, which is why they called themselves a "continuum"; it was separate from the universe, which is why their powers were godlike--they came from a reality so different that reality was like putty to them. In Babylon 5, the First Ones were like the Ancients: once-corporeal lifeforms evolved into incorporeal ones. But in B5, the First Ones were still mortal, and existed in time/space. In Stargate, they exist in-between, and can move from one to the other, so they have powers and abilities bordering on godhood, whereas in B5 they were very limited. So it's kind of a mix between the two concepts.
ascension is not about being high or on another planet, it's about being on another plain of existence. he was half ascended, they lowered him down so that he would be weaker, but also he is able to interact with humans. which was dickish on their part because he still had ascended knowledge not to mention the means to be able to find and their technology. also if the work together with helping fix problems that would have considerable lowered the risks, the did have almost infinite knowledge.
When I was a kid. I hated the a ascended… thinking they were uncaring omniscient beings. But as an adult I understood them and respected them more. They knew that they were too powerful to interfere. They understood it wasn’t their place. They don’t want to become an unchanging godly power.

She isn't anymore. Since Anubis wasn't fully ascended, he was protected by the "no-interference-rule". Oma went ahead and fully ascended Anubis that moment, so now they are two full ascended duking it out for eternity.

Funny part of this is when the ancients are looking at Daniel afterwards like you are going back to your original lv of existence.. now! Honestly if they let oma fight or kill Anubis I don't think they would've minded letting Daniel as an ascended to do his thing back in season 6 in orbit above Abydos when he was about to wipe Anubis out from existence but Oma feared they'd punish him.
The ascended Ancient of SG1 are so wise to me. I know people don't understand their choice but I think it is because of a philosophical discordance in which we humans value life more than anything. The Ancient see a bigger picture of cosmological order and the importance of self determination for the lower dimensions. But it is even more complex than that.
I like to think that this is how Anubis actually is because he's dropped the Goa'uld pretense to become someone more emotional, honest, and visceral and his lower form is just still cosplaying as his old megamaniacal self because he's basically escaped the genetic memory curse that makes them all essentially insane. It's probably how he tricked Oma in the first place before returning to his true evil self but without the self-destructive blindness of most Goa'uld.
@Finalzero Not necessarily. Since the Ancients live at a higher plane of existence than everyone else, they're probably unaffected by the rules of time as they affect us. So, it's entirely possible that Anubis was still fighting Oma in that reality, even though the "real-time" events leading up to that hadn't actually occurred.
On the trivia page it says nothing about oma being forgiven, what is said is that they are locked in combat for eternity. So link to producer saying this or it is written off as some fan fiction or heresay.

@isal3 Daniel chose it. Oma wasn't there to do it, she was there to guide Daniel in his choice. In Atlantis and later in SG-1 it makes it sound like its a conscious decision by the Ascended to remake themselves in human form.

I wouldn't say he was half ascended, but i'd say he was up there some where, maybe not on mars with the others, but some where near the orbit of the moon, which is considerably higher than everyone else stuck to the earth's surface. but their laws makes sense, after all, some of them have been on the ascended plane for millions of years. remember they left their galaxy fifty million years before, so more than likely they had instances of all forms of mistakes made by their kind.
Anubis was my favorite character in Sg-1 and I'm so sad how they got rid of him. I was always hoping that there would be an episode in Atlantis where Anubis escaped his battle with oma and was now trying to regain his power via Atlantis, it would have been so cool. I doubt that Universe will include any gou'ald (although I have a beef with that series preimere)

Arguably, Morgan may have destroyed Adria. In this case, Anubis was too powerful to be destroyed by a single ancient and the others weren’t going to clean up Oma’s mess...that was her burden to bear. Ancients can de-ascend a person...that Anubis could not be is proof of how powerful he became once ascended. Adria intended to kill the Ancients, so I think it’s a matter of how powerful an ascended being becomes.
no not planets, but levels of power. half is perhaps closer than Anubis deserves or more than he probably had, but to say Anubis level of ascension was as high as the moon where as Daniels level was as high as the clouds, and for humanity, their level was earth ground level seeing as how they were normal. Daniel's in the clouds Anubis is on the moon, and the full Ascended are on Mars. the ori uses human devotion to make themselves even more powerful, so the lower levels were off limits, period.
I was thinking...if Oma just could have thought out a strategy to get rid of that p.o.s. , lol. He needed to be weakened just a little bit - being a little weaker than Oma - then she could have dealt with him. She would have needed some help or just a new plan to solve this problem...I mean she was a high being but maybe not too smart, but with a special plan (that was never before conceived) she could have thrown out this guy...I'm not saying that I have a solution since I'm not ascended yet, lol, but still, it's always good to work on a plan, against all odds.
Actually, that was because SG-1 got cancelled when they only had 3 episodes left to film for S10, and so they had to find a way to resolve the entire thing within a single movie. The Ori saga was originally planned to span 4 seasons according to Joseph Mallozzi, and the Ori were meant to have survived the detonation of the Sangraal, but that had to be rewritten and they were all unceremoniously destroyed save for Adria.

Battling. The Sangraal that killed the Ori neutralized their energy waves with an equal and opposite wave (peaks match troughs). Oma, Anubis, Adria and Morgan are all the same wave.

@@QoQabai658 Actually, Anubis chose to take the form of Jim. Jim is just a facade for Anubis. We do see Anubis's true form in the episode Prototype, Season 9 Episode 9. Technically they're still alive. Anubis and Oma. Fighting it out there on some unknown, cosmic level. It would be fascinating if after all this time Anubis somehow won, came back and started again.
Particularly given the fact that Earth have an ascended being killing weapon.
My guess is that the Ancients finally stepped in once Oma decided to committ the "selfless act" of locking Anubis in eternal battle so he couldn't hurt anyone else. I'm guessing they killed Anubis and sent Oma back to mortal form with no memory, much like she did with Daniel
@@leogetz3570 This scene right here heavily implies, that they are locked in an eternal struggle, with no one having a chance at winning. So no, Anubis wasn't killed and the others didn't step in to save Oma and make her mortal and whatnot, they let this happen. They essentially lost one of their best to a pointless eternal fight between the two, because Oma had to learn her lesson. Well she did and this is the price.

Exactly. The concept of Q, like many others, was borrowed by Stargate in the form of "ascended ones". Just like the replicators are equivalent to the borg. Or Teal'c to Worf (somehow).
@@0mik3mik3 and many many more concepts. If you watched several Star Trek shows from before Stargate you will find so many familiarities to thinkd and even storylines they just ripped of for (certainly entertaining) Stargate episodes but still.
The concept of Q and the Continuum seem to have been heavily based off Mr. Mxyzptlk and the 5th Dimension from Superman though, which predated the former by over 4 decades.

The Q were never part of the universe, but rather an adjacent universe altogether, which is why they called themselves a "continuum"; it was separate from the universe, which is why their powers were godlike--they came from a reality so different that reality was like putty to them.
In Babylon 5, the First Ones were like the Ancients: once-corporeal lifeforms evolved into incorporeal ones. But in B5, the First Ones were still mortal, and existed in time/space. In Stargate, they exist in-between, and can move from one to the other, so they have powers and abilities bordering on godhood, whereas in B5 they were very limited.
So it's kind of a mix between the two concepts.

The Qs were more like emotionally-dependant pests, where the Ancients were beings that just did not give a fuck.

ascension is not about being high or on another planet, it's about being on another plain of existence. he was half ascended, they lowered him down so that he would be weaker, but also he is able to interact with humans. which was dickish on their part because he still had ascended knowledge not to mention the means to be able to find and their technology. also if the work together with helping fix problems that would have considerable lowered the risks, the did have almost infinite knowledge.

When I was a kid. I hated the a ascended… thinking they were uncaring omniscient beings.
But as an adult I understood them and respected them more. They knew that they were too powerful to interfere. They understood it wasn’t their place. They don’t want to become an unchanging godly power.
@DungeonCodex and that would go against the fact that the ancients cannot travel instantly when ascended which is why morgan le fay had to follow the odyssey through the supergate to the ori galaxy where she could act freely because there were no ascended ancients there

She isn't anymore. Since Anubis wasn't fully ascended, he was protected by the "no-interference-rule". Oma went ahead and fully ascended Anubis that moment, so now they are two full ascended duking it out for eternity.
@@darthvader1166 If I recall correctly full ascension is just the beginning to unlocking greater knowledge, so Oma would know more than Anubis perhaps giving her the upper hand, is what I meant.

Funny part of this is when the ancients are looking at Daniel afterwards like you are going back to your original lv of existence.. now! Honestly if they let oma fight or kill Anubis I don't think they would've minded letting Daniel as an ascended to do his thing back in season 6 in orbit above Abydos when he was about to wipe Anubis out from existence but Oma feared they'd punish him.

The ascended Ancient of SG1 are so wise to me. I know people don't understand their choice but I think it is because of a philosophical discordance in which we humans value life more than anything. The Ancient see a bigger picture of cosmological order and the importance of self determination for the lower dimensions. But it is even more complex than that.

I like to think that this is how Anubis actually is because he's dropped the Goa'uld pretense to become someone more emotional, honest, and visceral and his lower form is just still cosplaying as his old megamaniacal self because he's basically escaped the genetic memory curse that makes them all essentially insane. It's probably how he tricked Oma in the first place before returning to his true evil self but without the self-destructive blindness of most Goa'uld.
@Finalzero Not necessarily. Since the Ancients live at a higher plane of existence than everyone else, they're probably unaffected by the rules of time as they affect us. So, it's entirely possible that Anubis was still fighting Oma in that reality, even though the "real-time" events leading up to that hadn't actually occurred.
Actually, the idea of believers giving ascended beings energy came later, however, you would have been right if they had came up with the idea sooner.

On the trivia page it says nothing about oma being forgiven, what is said is that they are locked in combat for eternity. So link to producer saying this or it is written off as some fan fiction or heresay.
Probably a fan-fiction; a contact I have has created a RPG where Anubis has returned from the battle with Oma Desala, probably you have seen his RPG or an other fan-fic.

So I guess this was WHY Oma was being punished - she needed to atone for empowering Anubis by taking him out of play the only way anyone could. The way the other ascended abruptly started watching her was like they had been waiting for her to act as she did.

@isal3 Daniel chose it. Oma wasn't there to do it, she was there to guide Daniel in his choice. In Atlantis and later in SG-1 it makes it sound like its a conscious decision by the Ascended to remake themselves in human form.

I wouldn't say he was half ascended, but i'd say he was up there some where, maybe not on mars with the others, but some where near the orbit of the moon, which is considerably higher than everyone else stuck to the earth's surface. but their laws makes sense, after all, some of them have been on the ascended plane for millions of years. remember they left their galaxy fifty million years before, so more than likely they had instances of all forms of mistakes made by their kind.
Anubis was my favorite character in Sg-1 and I'm so sad how they got rid of him. I was always hoping that there would be an episode in Atlantis where Anubis escaped his battle with oma and was now trying to regain his power via Atlantis, it would have been so cool. I doubt that Universe will include any gou'ald (although I have a beef with that series preimere)

Arguably, Morgan may have destroyed Adria. In this case, Anubis was too powerful to be destroyed by a single ancient and the others weren’t going to clean up Oma’s mess...that was her burden to bear. Ancients can de-ascend a person...that Anubis could not be is proof of how powerful he became once ascended. Adria intended to kill the Ancients, so I think it’s a matter of how powerful an ascended being becomes.
no not planets, but levels of power. half is perhaps closer than Anubis deserves or more than he probably had, but to say Anubis level of ascension was as high as the moon where as Daniels level was as high as the clouds, and for humanity, their level was earth ground level seeing as how they were normal. Daniel's in the clouds Anubis is on the moon, and the full Ascended are on Mars. the ori uses human devotion to make themselves even more powerful, so the lower levels were off limits, period.

I was thinking...if Oma just could have thought out a strategy to get rid of that p.o.s. , lol. He needed to be weakened just a little bit - being a little weaker than Oma - then she could have dealt with him. She would have needed some help or just a new plan to solve this problem...I mean she was a high being but maybe not too smart, but with a special plan (that was never before conceived) she could have thrown out this guy...I'm not saying that I have a solution since I'm not ascended yet, lol, but still, it's always good to work on a plan, against all odds.

This was Stargate's answer to several big baddies, since they did the same thing to tie up Adria's arc.
Actually, that was because SG-1 got cancelled when they only had 3 episodes left to film for S10, and so they had to find a way to resolve the entire thing within a single movie. The Ori saga was originally planned to span 4 seasons according to Joseph Mallozzi, and the Ori were meant to have survived the detonation of the Sangraal, but that had to be rewritten and they were all unceremoniously destroyed save for Adria.
