The portal got lit up because the wood he placed near the obsidian caught fire. He put wood down because he didnt have a flint and steel. Also, the new update allows compasses to track people in the nether, so in the later episodes they will use that to track Dream

When u start at the first manhunt u can actually see Dream and the hunters get progressively more creative and better

I love the stark contrast between the first and latest Manhunt videos. It starts off all happy and fun, and then it just derails into fits of screaming for dear life, from both sides.

@@SuperMcGregs you can use any kind of fire i am pretty sure even fire charges work he used wood because it lights easily and you can find it easily and he didn't make a flint and steel because it takes iron which is pretty important and since he was not as good as he is now he needed that iron
I’ve watched this video several times and I literally never saw George running towards him in the birch forest.
It’s crazy how he saw him.
I had to slow it down to 25% speed and you can barely see him right before he switches back to first person on the rights side

@@SuperMcGregs if you're ever trapped in the nether without a flint and steel then building a portal next to a lava pool with some wood next to it is the best way to get out

The earlier ones have George’s perspective on his channel, it’s so amazing to watch the other side. It’s such a shame they don’t post those anymore
Btw, at here (10:36) The reason of that portal got lit is that dream doesn't have any flint and steel so he put some wooden planks infront of the portal, so when planks got lit it also makes the portal lit. Theres so many options for liting a portal.

When George was wondering if Dream was above him in the island, it wasn’t the wood planks that gave him away. If the planks were still there, George would’ve known for sure.
The planks have despawned by then and George was just basing it off his compass.

Also in case you haven't found out in your series you can make a snowman from two blocks of snow and a pumpkin. Then use shears to cut off the pumpkin.
They will fight by your side with snowballs. (Not the toughest guys)

17:13 - "He should of dropped water" George could of just placed a block above him, and the water, since there were no source blocks around him, would just disappear. So the only thing that water would of done would of been giving away his position

If you're curious about when's the point he "snaps", I personally think it was in the second 1v3.
I still remember back when it was first uploaded, 1v2 (and prior) was good, but when 1v3 came along things got real, and you can see that in the first 2 minutes of the video.
But the rematch (second 1v3) felt MUCH more impactful for me, because at this point Dream wants to prove to himself, their friends, and his viewers that he can absolutely defeat 3 hunters in a manhunt, which is why you can see him do more smart and quick moves throughout the video; in fact, from that video onwards it's when Dream got into "the zone", and absolutely went to god levels of skill. He was already VERY good, don't get me wrong, but it just felt that he improved so much since that point onwards, in my opinion.
As ingenius as Dream is in these videos, the real ingenius thing is the perfect assymetry of how speedrunner vs hunter works. From this evolves an almost action movie plot that steers itself by the mechanics of the game and the brilliance of giving the hunter infinite lives and a compass.
George went from 28k to 3.7 mil between that video being posted and now

If u put wood nxt to the portal the lave sparks can set the wood on fire which works just as a flint and steel would👍

The earlier manhunts were more about mind games and talking, while the newer ones are more about in game skills and plays. What if we had one with both to their fullest extent? That would be crazy intense.
Charl it would be Minecraft manhunt but technoblade is hunting me down because they are both serious good at Minecraft and they are both funny and goofy as well.

He lit the portal by setting the wood next to it on fire. It takes a while and is based a lot on luck, but it’s the only way if you don’t have a fire charge or a flint and steal. The wood caught fire, because of the lava, if wood is placed next to lava, after a while it’s gonna burn. And that lit the portal.
This is kinda weird but I literally can’t stop looking at your teeth. They’re quite possibly the most perfect I’ve ever seen.

a little tip for you in survival villages :
If you see like cracked marks on iron golem it means its health is low if you right click iron ingots in iron golem it will heal up so the village is protected!
