Cole walked in the exoskeleton today at Sheltering Arms in Richmond, Virginia! The exoskeleton is a piece of technology used to help individuals walk who are otherwise unable to.
It also allowed us to have our first standing hug and it was AWESOME!!!!

How do we see true love so readily when so many couples are divorcing left and right? Time will determine "after the honeymoon period" the true status of all relationships. Even paid caregivers can become too stressed out and uncooperative in time. Self-preservation is a survival mode for ALL OF US eventually.

I'm a C5 C6 tetraplegic I had an accident when I was 23 now I'm 33 years old haven't had a girlfriend for 10 years since my accident and honestly I'm not a bad looking guy but the depression really gets to you so it's hard to start a relationship I'm glad this boy was able to find his girl it gives me hope in a way that maybe one day I too shall find that girl to help me fight through this till then cheers my brother!

Heaven knows, I have no experience of your situation, so probably should not be offering any advice. This is an old posting, so perhaps you have found a girl friend, but I know that for anyone a passion can take the place of a girlfriend/boyfriend relationship.

My son-in-law became a quad 13 years ago at the age of 26. His paralysis is also due to a diving accident; from the top wall of the hot tub into the shallow end of the pool. His attitude has never been as positive as Cole’s. He has been given help from all areas of expertise in his diagnosis. He rehabbed at TIRR in Houston, one of the best, if not THE best, in the country. Despite having 2 beautiful daughters, one of whom was born 6 weeks after his accident, he has pretty much given up on himself. We’ve all tried to encourage him but he gets nasty angry and withdraws. We won’t give up but seeing Cole’s attitude is so refreshing. I’m sure he has his bad days but my son-in-law has never had Cole’s joy of living. I commend you Cole, Charisma, Mom, Dad and the rest of the family and friends. You are all an inspiration to me!

I think something like this is a little harder on a man than a woman as it messes with their macho esteem. I hope if he doesn't have a lady love in his life such as Charisma that could also be a problem. If not, he should look for his own Charisma.

I only get jealous because my therapist doesn’t try new stuff with me. I show potential on bars locking my knees and finding my balance then it’s back to wheelchair skills. I can get back in the chair from the floor but not the exact method she wants. I can wheelie up and down curbs so I find it a waste of time to work on stuff like that. Then I see a video like this and get pissed off I don’t get a team helping me walk. I get one therapist who maybe gets me up on parallel bars gives me hope then wants to work on transfers which I’m already pretty good at I can pop myself up on objects well above my chair. I go up stairs on my butt drag my chair behind me and get back in it I can work on that crap by myself. I want an ecto-skeleton. I’m happy for Cole but burns me up I can’t get that level of help recovering and I’m getting returns to my legs.

It’s because women usually view men being tall than them as a form of strength amongst other things. You could see that she was even more attracted him and Cole could see it also. Regardless of what happens to Cole as far as being able to walk again, I hope that their love last for many many many years. Oh and yea, right when the camera woman was filming John’s back of him sweating that she was going to go down to his butt, and they call men pigs. LOL. You can't imagine being 6'4 1/2", where you're used to being an intimidating presence, to being about 4'8", sitting in a wheelchair. I don't know how tall Cole is but it looks like he might know where I'm coming from.
I believe he heals better because of the love and enormous amount of support he gets from ppl that love him. He’ll walk again...I believe that sincerely

I just love the faces of people around them, who are having their own therapy but smile ear to ear because Cole is on his legs. I never actually thought about what it’s like to see each other improve within those walls. How did I just watch this video. 💜

He suffered an accident as a young man while swimming with his pals and while diving into the water, he hit his head on a rock. The injury left him this way and while in physical therapy, God intertwined these two beautiful souls... Like their motto:
"Stay Positive!"

The way Charisma was just smiling and dancing a bit and took a step back to just silently look at Cole standing was beautiful. She just wanted to take it in and love that moment with him. So beautiful. ♡

8:24 is such a special moment to witness. He's looking at her like, "I told you so" lol and she looks up at him like, "I already knew babe". I was skeptical about all of this at first but every video I watch of them together or with family and friends and it's obvious. These two would have found each other either way and have still been better people because of it. They're love is amazing. Thank you guys for sharing.

It was so amazing to see Cole walking. I have been dealing with some mobility issues since 2015. I cannot tell you how much this video touches my heart. It makes me think of how often I have prayed. I thank God for allowing me to witness this.

Sheltering Arms saved my life! I had a heart attack, coded twice & was in a coma. When I woke up couldn't move my arms & legs. It took in hospital rehab to start me off. But Sheltering arms taught me how to walk again, do stairs, eat , shower. I had to go back months later after I had open heart surgery. I saw people walk in the exoskeleton & in the harness suspended from the ceiling. They have a grueling 3 hour a day schedule but they are wonderful people who really know their stuff. They push you to do your A game & for me it truly paid off!! I love watching your videos because I used some of the same equipment!

God bless you. I myself am a paraplegic and the feeling I got when I first stood up was the most amazing feeling. Just to see the world in a different perspective since you are used to seeing everything at a seated level. Hoping you get to continue training and hopefully get enough functioning to stand on your own. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

What an amazing connection. I was married for 16 years. After 11, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. I underwent surgery to remove the tumor and had a stroke during surgery. I woke up unable to move anything on my left side. Instead of supporting me through my recovery, my husband found a girlfriend and was "sneaking" her in our house to spend the night with him. I'm not that dumb, so I filed for divorce and our son and I moved into a small rental. He has just continued to spiral down, while I continue to recover a little at a time. First, he got arrested for a DUO and lost his licence, he got arrested again for driving on a suspended license , with no registration. Unfortunately, I have had to go to court every month because he doesn't pay his support on time. The judge keeps threatening to have him detained for 60 days if he doesn't keep it current, but every month it's the same thing! I'm just so happy to see this beautiful young lady stick by her boyfriends side when not even my husband of 16 years could do it!!

Really one of the best thing in the rehab center is that patients/clients cheer for each other. I'm a physiotherapist and it touches me everytime i see or hear clients/patients in that rehab cheer for the others such as when im doing ambulation training. It helps them a lot tbh to be more motivated 💖

This is just fabulous. I know Cole and his family have been down a most Difficult heart wrenching road. The progress he’s making is so wonderful to see. I always try to see the good in things. The great thing that happened that wouldn’t have happened without this horrific accident is meeting the love of his life.
