We had a very successful marriage but ups and downs for sure. My deepest regret is that I did not use every moment to affirm him and to appreciate his amazing attributes. I'm also a C-5 complete quadriplegic but I was in rehab 37 years ago, when patients would spend four months in rehab. During that time, my primary nurse and I got to know each other well and got very close. I didn't marry her but we did become a couple after I was discharged from rehab and stayed together romantically for a couple of years. We remain platonic friends to this day.

I met My boyfriend at a summer camp for people with disabilities we met in 2018 we were best friends for 4 years and we got together on October 23rd 2022 we've been together for almost 2 years
@@coleandcharisma you're welcome guys I really don't mind telling that story because it's a great story and it's our story and honestly I had no idea that I would ever fall in love with him it just happened 4 years later when I met him I just thought of him as a friend I just thought of him as a friend the whole time but all of a sudden I just fell for him actually what really happened was I asked him out like I asked him to be my boyfriend one time and he rejected me and then I waited and then I asked him again and he said yes after he stopped beating around the bush I actually had to push the answer out of him because he was beating around the bush he said that he always liked me and I asked him why he didn't ask me out I guess he was just nervous but we're together now and we're happy we've been in a long-distance relationship and trust me it's been hard but we fight through it and we go through it we get through it and get through it we go through obstacles and we defied beat the odds we continue to defy the odds because we refuse to give up on each other one time I felt like giving up and throwing in the towel I almost broke up with him but I realized that I couldn't because he's the love of my life is everything I've been searching for and everything I ever wanted and more he's the man of my dreams and the love of my life and if I didn't have him I would be alone for the rest of my life because I would never be able to love another and I would be kicking myself for letting him go and I would be heartbroken and shattered he changed my life he made me a happier person he's so happy so positive so full of life and so loving he makes me want to be a better person he pushes me to be a better person everyday he's so patient with me I don't think he ever gets mad at me haha 😂 Not only has he made me a happier person he's also made me a better person he pushes me to be better but he does it with love and tenderness he doesn't verbally abuse me he doesn't put me down he speaks to me with love he brings meaning in my life before in my life was meaningless and I feel like my life was pointless I felt nothing nothing but sadness and hurt and I was always in the darkness I've been through so much in my life that has caused me to be in a depressed state but God sent me a beautiful wonderful man who gives me peace and love

I love this meeting and dating story. It's beautiful. My hubby and I were introduced by my aunt. I knew about his disability because my aunt told us about it. IDK if he knew about mine. It didn't matter. We were much more interested in each other's talents--writing and ESP stuff, plus our humor. Like Charisma says, the disability questions and discussions happened after we became intimate. When he had an episode, I just said nonchalantly "it's OK, my sister has that too." And then we went on to other topics. I just needed him to know that this was not a problem at all. But I have to admit that it was MANY, MANY, MANY years into our marriage until I was able to even talk about what it feels like to live with my disabilities. I was THAT repressed. And he still is in some kind of denial about his. I get mad about that because I think he should care about all the garbage in society that we face. That's harder than the actual disabilities themselves. But one thing we BOTH did share very openly was how angry we are about medical coverage and the cost of the many medicines we need just to function normally. He's like "well, there's nothing I can do about it." And I'm like, "we have to be in the resistance. We have to fight for our rights." I see it very politically. He just looks at it as a personal kind of struggle. We are both hardcore liberals but I am just EXTREMELY political. I did wonder how you folks met and I'm happy that you shared it here. I enjoyed this a lot. The stuff about Cole popping out was hilarious. Makes me glad I'm not a guy and that people can't see when I am turned out.

After we met in 2001 we realized we had probably crossed paths many times growing up, going to the same mall, etc. I really believe things happen for a reason and when you know you know the right person has come along. Very cool to hear how therapists think. I did PT for a knee. I saw how each therapist needs to keep several patients working with separate PT plans AT THE SAME TIME. Such a busy job that (eventually) is so appreciated by the patients.
You two are gorgeous together. I am married almost 30 years and my husband is still my best friend. Over 4 years ago an accident changed my life and I now live with permanent disabilities both physical and brain injuries. Cole, your comment about your emotion on your first date with Charisma - I think I know what you mean. I think when our lives are changed by an accident, we work hard to make progress but still feel like we are missing something because nothing is the same as before the injury. We are happy but not as free as before our accident. I feel like there is still something missing and I’m still finding myself. Then we have an experience which makes us feel like we are breaking free from the cocoon that felt so restrictive. It’s like we have found our way in the new version of ourselves and really allow ourselves to be free and happy again

I love this meeting and dating story. It's beautiful. My hubby and I were introduced by my aunt. I knew about his disability because my aunt told us about it. IDK if he knew about mine. It didn't matter. We were much more interested in each other's talents--writing and ESP stuff, plus our humor. Like Charisma says, the disability questions and discussions happened after we became intimate. When he had an episode, I just said nonchalantly "it's OK, my sister has that too." And then we went on to other topics. I just needed him to know that this was not a problem at all. But I have to admit that it was MANY, MANY, MANY years into our marriage until I was able to even talk about what it feels like to live with my disabilities. I was THAT repressed. And he still is in some kind of denial about his. I get mad about that because I think he should care about all the garbage in society that we face. That's harder than the actual disabilities themselves. But one thing we BOTH did share very openly was how angry we are about medical coverage and the cost of the many medicines we need just to function normally. He's like "well, there's nothing I can do about it." And I'm like, "we have to be in the resistance. We have to fight for our rights." I see it very politically. He just looks at it as a personal kind of struggle. We are both hardcore liberals but I am just EXTREMELY political. I did wonder how you folks met and I'm happy that you shared it here. I enjoyed this a lot. The stuff about Cole popping out was hilarious. Makes me glad I'm not a guy and that people can't see when I am turned out.

So glad you two are still going strong. I met my late boyfriend of 16 yrs online the old school way in a yahoo chat room. After we met in 2001 we realized we had probably crossed paths many times growing up, going to the same mall, etc. I really believe things happen for a reason and when you know you know the right person has come along. Very cool to hear how therapists think. I did PT for a knee. I saw how each therapist needs to keep several patients working with separate PT plans AT THE SAME TIME. Such a busy job that (eventually) is so appreciated by the patients.

You two are gorgeous together. I am married almost 30 years and my husband is still my best friend. Over 4 years ago an accident changed my life and I now live with permanent disabilities both physical and brain injuries.
Cole, your comment about your emotion on your first date with Charisma - I think I know what you mean. I think when our lives are changed by an accident, we work hard to make progress but still feel like we are missing something because nothing is the same as before the injury. We are happy but not as free as before our accident. I feel like there is still something missing and I’m still finding myself. Then we have an experience which makes us feel like we are breaking free from the cocoon that felt so restrictive. It’s like we have found our way in the new version of ourselves and really allow ourselves to be free and happy again
