- Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau criticized Premier Danielle Smith and her government’s newly announced policies on transgender youth Friday, calling them the “most anti-LGBT policies anywhere in this country.”
Trudeau called on Smith to “fight with us to defend the rights of vulnerable Canadians.”
“Don’t fight against vulnerable LGBT youth,” he said and added that the federal government will protect and defend LBGTQ2 youth.
Alberta’s policies include requiring youth under age 16 to have parental consent before changing their name or gender. It also includes a ban on gender reassignment surgery for Albertans under age 18 and prohibitions on puberty blockers and hormone therapy for youth aged 15 and under.

I work with vulnerable sector trans youth in an Alberta city of which there are hundreds at the moment and likely a lot more if these laws get passed unopposed and unchallenged.
When the parents of these children kick them out to the street, they are harmed - greatly. Some are as young as 10 and 11 and presently number in the hundreds.
Question: What exactly would you like to see happen to these trans kids? What would you like done with them?

Did you know at 16 kids in most provinces don't need mommy and daddy to know their medical history on everything else?
Did you know that no one under 18 can get GRS unless it's in an extreme circumstance (intersexed, for example).
Perhaps research the actual things trans kids have to do and how long it takes - hint, it's not a short time, it's YEARS - before anything can be truly done.

I pulled my kids from school a year before covid struck.
At home one day, bad flu making its rounds among my 4 kids and myself(not to mention our small country town), not fully mended yet, and Child Services at my door because my kids (puking and all the nitty gritty) had missed a week of school.. they were most definitely needing to be at home that week. Get rest, immune system healthy and prevent spread. I was appalled so i asked "so you guys wouldnt even be here if i loaded them with Tylenol, Gravol and sent them to school regardless if front end, rear end explosions would occur and lack of concentration to even learn?" Looked me in the eyes and said "Correct, they need to be in school, as a parent thats your responsibility". Dealt with that situation and promptly after pulled my kids from the school system. I feel so empowered with my intuition and guidance with such experiencing everything thats gone on since then...covid hit and now this.

If she was banning gender affirming operations OUTRIGHT, then yes, but it was a policy that required parental consent below 16 or 18 or whatever for it to go through, and if one is over the age, they can have at it. Now as a parent you do not have the RIGHT to HELP your child if they have been determined to need PB's and they are 13... I guess they just have to continue to go through the WRONG PUBTERY for 2 more years, every day becoming more and more dysphoric. What gives the federal government the right over sub 18 year-olds?
I have an aunt who’s a lesbian & an uncle & nephew who are gays and they don’t see the policies as offensive. Liberals are making a big fuzz out of this to get even with Smith.
The vast majority of Canadians do not want their kids to be altered through intrusive surgery and/or drugs and, those that do, really do not understand the permanent damage that they become responsible for ..... this can be a choice adults can make when they are 21 years old and not with my hard dollars.
Trans kids weren't in danger from transitioning and there was safe options. Puberty blockers are gonna be prevented by alberta which are a great option for many trans kids. Puberty blockers just delay the effects of Puberty or pause it giving time for the child and their family to decide what they would like to do. If the child wishes to continue through their biological puberty they can very easily if they stop taking the blockers, or if they decide to start hormones to transition they can as well. Puberty blockers are a safe and reversible method of medical transition. If anyone wants to know more about transitioning I could find some good resources or chat!
Also kids aren't trying to just have surgeries. Surgeries are incredibly difficult to access in alberta and everyone I know who has had gender affirming surgeries has done so over the age 18, typically over the age of 20. These things aren't taken lightly in our communities and doctors don't just hand out medication and referrals for these things. It is often many many intensive interviews and appointments with doctors, therpaists and psychologists. There are numerous hoops and it takes a long time and alot of certainty
21 is a bit absurd since they are considered adults at 18. This 21 USA drinking age always was absurd and always will be. They are either adults at 18 or they aren't. I would just settle for not non essential elective surgery before 18

As an parent from Ontario I stand with Alberta as most people in this country do. Kids can’t make those decisions. Can they vote under 18? No, can they buy cigarettes or booze? Nope. Why? Because they aren’t mature enough to make those decisions
Can media do and share survey regarding this policy? I feel this policy that alberta brought up is well supported by majority of Canadians
Really hope our provincial election has some who will stand up and implement these things here in BC
