So this is the first one I've come across in a while where they weren't turned off and it's the only reason I watched it. I help fund the cbc so it's nice to get a jab in once in a while. Danielle Smith hasn't done anything good, or right. It's why she didn't last long as the Wildrose party leader. She got defeated in her own riding, in 2015, by another Conservative.

Im a rural Albertan. I've never even heard of him until just now.
Ive been to many of his meetings. He is very smart. He loves Alberta. He isnt arrogant. He speaks truths. I support Danielle but she is in charge because of people like David. She is playing safe.

Don't equate CBC News with the rest of the CBC. Largely, the CBC is a great resource and produces some really good programming. Unfortunately, CBC News is truly horrific. So, I would suggest you change your rallying call to "defund CBC News".
We should give tax breaks to private media sources, because they have your best interests in-mind. Surely, they won't extract money from you in any way. Please spend your hard-earned dollars at the place of your commercial choosing. You will enjoy the freedom to give billionaires money by choice. We should all applaud your efforts and deep insight. Let's collectively text Elon and Zuck all of our money, because they are automatically the best at being things which government can't.

I live in Red Deer and this is the first time I've ever heard of David Parker. This seems like a nothing story. Good for Danielle to not shy away from the tiny amount of potential votes lost by speaking out.

I wrote a book called "WEXIT: The Reluctant Rebellion" about the issues in the West and the history of the frustrations - the second edition will be coming out soon.
I have never spoken to David Parker but I have spoken to members of Take Back Alberta, many in the WEXIT movement, and various politicians over the years and especially during the researching process of the book. What I know about many "activist" and 'politically adjacent' groups, on both the right and the left, is that there are a lot of...interesting characters that get involved, especially those that feel marginalized or generally not heard. The reason there is a "populist" movement that keeps growing and fading in Western Canada is because of the chronic lack of respect that the Federal government gives to those outside of the "Golden Triangle". Alberta, in particular, sees their industries being attacked and the province being used as a whipping boy to help East=centric politicians win elections (PET's unofficial campaign slogan "F*&%K the West, We'll take the rest!", doesn't help.
She seems great. I would vote for her if I was an Albertan.

All discussion in the political sphere ought to be on policy and on policy only. Anything that is of any kind of personal slight or attack has no place in a civilized forum. Our governments have been given the power to tax business and the people; this power has a condition attached to this power and it is to focus on policy, budgets and the law.
Talk to DS and PP. All they have is personal attacks since they have no policies or platforms.
The real question is who cares? As somebody from Alberta I'm tired of paying Extra taxes on everything. I'm tired of working three jobs just to live paycheck to paycheck. I'm very discouraged that I will never be able to buy a house underneath any of these governments. I hate seeing so many people come in from other countries that have no houses and no way to feed them as well. But we have to feel obligated to take care of them when we can hardly take care of ourselves. And it's a damn shame to see governments destroy small ma and pa shops because the government knows best. This is no longer the country that my family originally came here for.

I have been to several Take Back Alberta meetings. What it is truly about is getting average people involved in politics, and there is a lot to say about that. David Parker, while he is the "leader" he is also over rated and not as controlling as people think he is. Yes he helped get rid of Kenney, but he mostly has instructed on how to make political change. He does not say who one should vote for. I consider myself a friend of Premier Smith. She is not controlled by Take Back Alberta, and mostly she listens to her constituents. If you have an issue, write your MLA, and you will get a response. They are always trying to engage with the people they represent. TBA has nothing to do with the UCP.

David Parker may have genuinely started campaigning for Alberta first initiatives which won him some sympathy from conservative voters and leaders alike. But now fame & popularity has gotten way over his head - which is why Danielle Smith is distancing herself from him and rightly so. But to say Smith and David are bed fellows with whatever he NOW espouses is non-sensical. Smith is a common sense driven independent thinker - who evaluates/reevaluates her policies and allies based on merit - not blind support.

It's called trying to save what little political reputation you have left with secular conservatives.
Would be nice if political parties would be less involved in towing the party line and more open to criticism. Instead of 'distancing' from criticism it would be refreshing to just state that all opinions and facts are welcome. Welcome and open to discussion. No leader is without faults and should be open to debating various viewpoints within the party and its affiliations . Agreement to disagree is constructive. Shunning is counterproductive. Leadership should always be about being open to all viewpoints, even if it is uncomfortable.
