It’s Saturday afternoon, June 14, 2024, at the Illinois Railway Museum at Union, Illinois.
We see St. Louis San Francisco Russian Decapod 2-10-0 steam locomotive 1630 and train arrive at the East Union, Illinois station.
Baldwin Locomotive Works built number 1630 in 1918 for Russia but their government could not pay for the locomotive nor 200 other steam locomotives, so they remained in the USA. So the 1630 was converted from the Russian 5 foot gauge to the American standard (4 foot 8 1/2 inches) gauge and was sold to the USRA. In 1920 it was sold to the St. Louis San Francisco Railway (the “Frisco”), where it was used as a mixed traffic engine.
