This guy needs to write a book. His voice would be perfect for narrating the Audio version. Hopefully, the Meateater crew can help him with getting a book published...soon!
This gentlemen has an incredible rhythmic cadence to his story telling. Kudos to Steve and the rest of the crew to allow his stories to percolate, breathe and develop. This is one of the reasons Meateater is second to none. The long-form interviews with limited interruptions, coupled with the in-depth dialogue really provides you with an experience like you’re almost there with him on his journey. Please have this man back on again. He has so much to share and his experiences are invaluable. He’s articulate, intelligent and so well-spoken. That’s a rare combination in this day and age. Thanks for the outstanding content all year, Meateater crew. Corrine and Phil deserve a raise. The production quality they add to all of your content is invaluable. Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, etc. to the entire crew. I truly appreciate the entertainment your platform provides.
I am from the UK, a small island where we have none of this, the distances i still can't comprehend and i am 70 yrs old now, i sat and listened enthralled, i didn't want this to end!! Could this gentleman please do another podcast? Such an engaging person. Thank you.
Bring this guy back!! I want to hear more stories! I was late for work because I was day dreaming about what it was like to be in his shoes while on his adventures!
I understand the draw of the Chris McCandless story, but big thanks to Meat Eater for giving folks like this a platform. Such amazing stories of survival and also how many have perished in this landscape. Awesome episode.
Only half finished listening and this might be my favorite. Great stories of a fascinating life. Pleasantly surprised to hear a story about Nondalton. Writing this comment from about 10 miles down the Newhalen from Nondalton. Finishing up my 20th year of bush Ak teaching. I’m sure folks remember you and your wife, Randy. Thanks Meateater
I didn’t remember that until you commented! I was thinking the whole interview that he was there near Heimo talking about the Colleen River. Great memory you have!
How dare you say merry Xmas!! It's happy Holidays!!! ..😂😂 jk jk ..God im so happy to see people say that more an more with the woke culture slowly being tossed aside 😂..MERRRRRY XMAS Fellas !!!!!
Great guest, great episode. No surprise he did great in college and has had a great career. The guy who doesn't think he is the smartest guy in the room is usually the smartest guy in the room. Mr. Brown will be back in a future episode for certain.
I could listen to this guy forever. So interesting! He needs his own show or a documentary of some kind. Best guest you’ve ever had on as far as I’m concerned!! Loved it!
This is the most fascinating, compelling, amazing story and gentleman i have ever heard of on this pod or anywhere ever for that matter. Need a book or movie on this guy. What an inspiration, to be living like that, during those years when he didnt have to. crazy brutal, yet amazing life.
Hey Randy is a great guy, always has been. I showed up on the Yukon (back in the late 70's) and stayed kind've out in the bush for a winter with my little family...Wife, & 2 little boys, didn't know much about the country. Randy adopted us and took good care of us and fed us real good. Plus he's bright and thoughtful as they come. May him and his family prosper.
I went to alaska for the first time in 2024 and went almost as far up the taylor highway as he's talking about there at eagle... Unrivaled wilderness. One of the most beautiful places I've ever seen.
Wow 🤩! Great 👍🏽 guest appearance! Your Brother was right! Hope there will be a second one. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to the Meat Eater Crew! Thanks for all the years of great entertainment with your Podcast of cool folks & Fighting the good Fight!
Best podcast all year! Bring him back just to tell Alaska stories. Please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He gave Buck Boden some competition for coolest guest ever.
Steve’s answer to the marriage advice 😂☠️ really glad to hear he has experienced so much most people wont experience of multiple lifetimes, before his vision started declining
That was awesome! Get him on for the next suggested episode of Survival in the Outdoors! Thank you all for the Meateater podcasts and shows. I've been a long-time listener! Evan Metropoulos
First comment on the podcast and I'm an avid listener for over two years. Loved this one enough to comment. Would absolutely love to hear more from him. Please have him back to do more.
This poor guy couldn't finish a sentence or a story. I am so spoiled to how well done the JRE podcast is and how its just one on one. Why are there sooo many people? I am dying to read this guys book!!
I think the issue with what happened with Dr. Kendall, was not that he brought up an issue with parasites in quail in parts of their range; it’s that he said “We have found the ‘silver bullet’ of bobwhite population decline”. That statement is where most draw issue.
Amazing podcast! And I'm not a podcast-watching guy but this caught my attention, started it then I couldn't turn it off. And the request by Steve of possibly getting Randy back for a 'tactical, backwoods know-how and the nuances of just surviving in the wild', that would be something to hear.
From idaho, landed in juno went upriver spent a week in prince of whales at calder mountain lodge. Beautiful and raw. Cant wait to return to the great big wilderness. The dock bait shops and gas statiosn were so unique and everything how it goes up there. Beautiful time
GET THIS MAN BACK ON FOR ANOTHER EPISODE PLEASE!!!! Im curious if Sam Minard or Jeremiah Johnson resonates with him! I’m also curious about some backwoods know how! Awesome episode Steve!
27 years in Willow Alaska raised a family of 4. Lots of stories. Radio Free Big Lake used to broadcast personal messages to homesteaders, once a week. Then we would know if someone was coming to visit. It was the only form of communication we had
