4:08 and on - the MOST BEAUTIFUL ending to a song I have ever heard. Between the guitar, and keyboard (organ or whatever it is), there is just sooooo much damn emotion. Then the sweet and soothing baseline hits, and it’s just pure heaven. Don’t forget that nasty drum line too, those opening high hats into the crash are just gorgeous. Hauntingly beautiful.
"you make a better window than a door" Something about that line, when i heard it - it made this album, on it's seventh out of nine songs, so much more important! it might be my hype for my favourite band, just on the second listen of the album, but I'll forever remember my morning jog after quarantine hours listening to this
I think he means in the sense of having it/her. Think of it like window shopping, he likes what he sees but he knows he's probably better off not cashing in, which is why he chooses, to want from afar than to actually have it/her? Or like an aesthetic, good looks from the outside[window] but a piece of hot trash on the inside[door] could be could not be, that's just how I see it.
I interpret it similar to what JAWKNEE said ^ if someone would be better off as a door, then you would enter the door to dive into that person. If someone is better as a window, then you want to glance into their person from afar and not enter
I just LOVE Nick's lead guitar line on this one. The guitars ring out so warmly. There's even a part where you can hear him slightly fluff up one of the bends, and it's still in the mix!! Perfectly flawed - the production is just DELICIOUS.
@@Fernando-jy6gq like all of it! The intro itself is so beautifully produced. You can almost hear Nick standing in the studio swaying as he bends those notes. Awesome.
I think it had the potential to be up there but does anyone else find the chorus a bit lazy/dull? Flat beat, kinda boring chords, vocal melody kinda predictable, not much going on with bass or second guitar. Sorry I find the other bits really cool though

Verse 1]
You're not the same anymore
Don’t wanna play that game anymore
You'd make a better window than a door
Oh, the strangers, they implore
It gets so easy to ignore
Just like the girl next door
[Chorus 1]

Sorry, this is overdue
I promised I would do it right
Her and a boy on a Saturday night

And now the door slams shut
A child prisoner grows up
To seek his enemy's throat cut
(I'm on and on it, on and on and on it)
We're on the way, fuel the jet
Can see that what he wants, he gets
What does your sworn enemy regret?
[Chorus 2]
I didn't know, I didn't care
I don't even understand
Did somethin' wrong, I wasn’t sure
Stay on top of this, or else
I was afraid, I fucked up
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I couldn’t change, it's too late
Verse 3]
And now it’s time to show up
Late again, I can't grow up
And now it's on me, they've given up
[Chorus 3]
Uncle’s house, I forget
Violent tendencies I get
Your timing sucks, she went overboard
Don't forget, you are insured
