It’s… complicated.
In the Marvel universe, I think it’s heavily implied there was an OG “Satan”, but it’s been so long nobody in Hell knows anymore.
There are several “Hell Lords” who would love to claim the throne of Hell.
And each of them would like to call themselves the true Devil.
But they’re all either broken pieces of the original guy, or claimants to a throne that isn’t theirs.
I like how he looks around and pauses as if he'd want anything other than his soul
"I'll have...oh i don't know...half of your snickers that's on the bench over there"
...doesn't quite have the same ring to it.

Sad things is, Cirian Hinds is actually a good actor and can play a good villain. His portrayal of Julius Caesar in HBO’s Rome proves it. But yeah, he was horribly miscasted. He needs to be a bigger, a villain who speaks softly, but causes disaster. Mephisto is cunning and prideful, he relishes in being the dealing devil. I would love to see Hinds as Nightmare or Malbogia (I know not Marvel but sill). Or hell, he could have been a great Dormannu.
I've met a few drywall contractors that probably were minor devils at least
1:00 That’s terrifying Mephistopheles true form

Peter Fonda as the Mephisto was a great choice
Very true
Peter fonda? You mean "the truth" from gta san Andreas? Damnn
R.I.P Peter Fonda😭😭😭😭
At first glance I thought that was Rutger Hauer.
Yep basically they choose old actor to play the devil is inspired by palpatine.
The way he smirks after Johnny says thanks but no thanks lol he knows exactly how to win him over.
I loved how ridiculous and almost comically over the top everything in this movie was. It was dripping with pure almost silly levels of edge. Its exactly the superhero movie that I needed to take my mind off daredevil. Peter's performance here as Mephistopheles the demon is great he eats the scenery and just screams evil. And Cage really did well bringing Johnny Blaze to life. Id say its up there with Blade. Top tier
Funnily enough, Mark Steven Johnson was the writer and director for both Daredevil & Ghost Rider. If you can find it, I highly recommend the director's cut of Daredevil. It fixes a ton of issues, even complete characters arcs and adds characters who were missing.
Same. I love this and Blade. They've both got love of the material built into them.
Side note go to the time stamp 0:34. U can hear a breathy growl or sigh from him like the kind ud hear from a big red monster devil. It's so good.
The actor for Mephistopheles/Mephisto/Satan/the Devil in the first film is better than the actor who played him in the second film. He seems more intimidating and more demonic than in the second one.

Yes big agree why they change him🤧
Or Doug Jones as the body reference for when Mephisto gets a rightfully horrifying design (red guy in a cape and speedo might not be enough), while the voice dub is Fonda himself?
Yeah, all they had to do was give him a redder wardrobe and keep his eyes all a’glow once his true nature is revealed.

What the Named of it bro
I'm mildly annoyed by how memetic it's become to jokingly reference Mephisto in discussions about the MCU while awaiting for his debut but people completely ignore the fact he was actually depicted here. I'm also hyped for his eventual movie return but this portrayal is still worthy of respect.

When I was little I didn’t know this guy was Mephistopheles I always thought this was Satan.
To be fair, it was originally supposed to be Satan in The Comics but Christian soccer moms complained so it was retconned to Mephisto shapeshifted into Satan`s form.(Why,the shapeshifting was necessary when the two are already virtually identical is a question we`ll likely never know the answer to.)
Also, Ghost Rider is MARVEL`s take on the Faust story and in Marlowe`s version Mephistopholes was the Devil whilst in Goethe`s he was just a demon working for The Devil. Marlowe`s version was also way more tragic(Hence the title "The Tragical History of Doctor Faustus") and misanthropic, bordering on nihilism(It`s ironic that people associate nihilism with atheism,Nietzsche and existentialism nowadays when it originates from Calvinistic fatalism in the Netherlands,Denmark and pre-Lutheran Austria-Hungary,Switzerland,Northern Italy and Germany.)
I like how the soundtrack is full of suspense when Johnny is like “Hi bro what ya doin?”

Peter Fonda really plays Mephistopheles well. He speaks softly yet there's a clear aura of menace and power to the character, he doesn't have to yell, curse or anything like that, you know there's something off about him. The guy in the second movie frankly should've been a lower ranked demon Mephisto sent to do his work for him rather than just saying he's the same dude in a different body.
