There’s a great deal of controversy concerning the configuration of the House of Augustus and the Temple of Apollo. Some archeologists believe the Temple of Apollo didn’t face south towards the Circus Maximus, but north towards the Area Palatina and the Forum area. Also, there is controversial regarding the location and identity of the so-called houses of Livia and Augustus. The existence of huge substructure facing towards the Circus Maximus is also debated. See T. P. Houseman’s book The House of Augustus for more details on these questions.
