I'm pretty sure most new cars shut off when they sense low oil. I wouldn't trust it myself with my own vehicle but I've seen it happen to people who aren't great about checking, changing, or noticing until they needed help on the side of the road.
@@edwardscott3262 that is not even close to true. Yes, some cars have auto-shut down but that system costs money and adds to the price of a car. Most don't have that feature.
The best part is that the rental company can use this video as an admission of guilt if he tries to worm his way out of responsibility for destroying the car.
@@rodneymartin6154 I'm sure it doesn't add a significant amount to the cost of the car. Most cars have oil level sensor, and all cars have oil pressure sensor, the manufacturer just needs to programme a logic in the ECU that shutdown the engine based on reading from either or both sensor. There are cheap gasoline electric generators that have low oil shutoff sensor integrated. Almost everyone I know has one of those. I often wonder why auto manufacturers haven't seen doing it ages ago.
@@rodneymartin6154 Certainly, but this Hyundai is a top of the line model w/ keyless start, auto engaging E-brake, etc. Probably does. To anyone else, if you ever get tired of your vehicle & think you can lemon law it by draining the oil & blowing the engine...car company engineers can tell. They come to the dealer, band saw the block & look for specific damage from low/no oil. Just because something is under warranty...don't try that tactic. They will know. 😆

Great video, have to say I was concerned for your safety as it was necessary to take up a position on or across the road while using the winch. As a former Peace officer I alway see situations for the risk factors. You were there so I'm sure you access you situation. That said wouldn't it be safer to have either temporary flashing lights or some permanent lights that could enhance visibility, I know our light bars could add white light at night for lighting up the area, and or flashing lights to warn approaching traffic. In your kit you ould have pylons, flares, high visibly traffic vest, etc. My main concern has to be a warning light system. They can even be set up internally to flash when on road where an inattentive diver could hit you, an employee or your beloved Morvair and banana. Thanks for the content keep up the great service you all provide.
The one thing I noticed is that the comms systems might need to be setup. Combination of CB Radio, GMRS, FRS & HAM might be useful for vehicle to vehicle chatting when you are outside cell service as well as using small handheld radios for quick chats when you are on foot
not on all vehicles.. some are hidden levers you need to find, maybe the centre console, maybe the dash... you use the key to slide the lock then lift the lever.. and then need to slide the lock to lower the lever. And on older vehicles they don't have a shift-interlock to bypass it and you're dropping linkage or driveshafts
It's enjoyable watching these rescue videos. If I may only add one thing: a little explanation of the use and deployment of blocks and tackles and the layout of cables other than in straight line pulling. Nothing overly technical which other videos offer, but simple descriptions of why you use the approaches you do.
I love how everyone is giving their 2 cents about whether the engine is junk or good (okay, arguing) when the real concern is the rest of the underside. I've beaten cars off-road. Everything gets smash... exhaust, control arms, brackets, etc. Matt being an experienced driver hit rocks on the way out. Do you think Mr. Horse N' Buggy there was careful? He was lost and sightseeing. I bet he hits rocks that's weren't even on the road. 😄
Matt is a cold weather warrior. Guy got nothing but a short sleeve button up on. You know he’s cold but he doesn’t give his discomfort a seat at the table. Young men can learn a lot from that small detail alone.
And those who told you to look in the owners manual were right;) . With push button think if it like a key. First you put it in slot one then you move the key accessory mode third move starts. It’s the same concept but just a button instead of a key. Don’t touch the brake on push buttons and they don’t start. The owners manual would of told you how to put in accessory mode also since you didn’t know. When you said I don’t know to put in it that mode… look up that mode😂.
Happy Birthday Matt. I'm with Matt; No way of knowing mud is under the snow. And we can do whatever we want when there is a second vehicle available. He found the only mudhole and found what he needed to know about moving it out forward. Thanks for posting. Happy Holy days.
So I own this car, 2023 Hyundai Elantra, and yes it is very frustrating trying to move it or recover it. The anchor points are great! But you do have to push the button twice, put it in neutral, and then go. Problem is, it has an automatic electronic parking brake that does what it wants. If the battery died, I can’t imagine you could unlock the steering or parking brake without taking stuff apart.
Smart move there Matt, marrying such a brilliant lady. Once again, Jaymie is smart enough to take over the driver’s seat and keep warm. And as others have said already, you’re comment, or lack thereof, when the guy assured you the engine still works, “because I had it running just 4/5 minutes ago,” was classic Matt. Happy birthday, and Merry Christmas.

About hyundai to put it in to the neutral you need to turn ignition on without pressed brake pedal, than when accesori mode is on press brake pedal than you can shift in to the N position, than if it is equipted with Electric parking brake you need to let the accesori mode ignition turned on, otherwise it will turn on auto park brake. What are the chances that Hertz will not charge that first fella for a new engine? Rental companies usually have a disclaimer that says the customer is on the hook for damages from off-roading. It has been my experience that Hertz never misses an opportunity to find new ways to take a customer's money.

I still think 3rd custom vehicle to build. A 2 ton crew cab, long bed frame. Stick a reg cab and a aluminum roll back platform on a extended frame. Pull up Jeep’s, cars, side by sides. It of course would not fit tight trails. That’s the heavy wrecker place. But often it looks like places a average 4wd with decent tires could go. Have you ever considered a emergency lighting kit? I just saw a video of guy pulling a car with a winch. Across a city street. A car with dash camera running did not see the rope. (Or either vehicle) nailed rope, totaled the car. Watching footage , knowing there was a winch cable. I did not see it till too late. Maybe wig wag to LEDs in corners?

There must be more relaxed rules for native US vehicle renters. As a Brit who has had a US rental every year since 1997 (except 2020 & 2021 due to covid), usually Dollar or Alamo, I have always been aware that the rental conditions explicitly state that the rental vehicle is only covered for proper official metalled roads, hence I never risked driving uninsured on Dayrona beach Florida for that reason.

All the rented vehicles (cars & RV's) I've rented in the USA (from the UK) have stipulated not to drive them on dirt roads. At the time I (correctly?) presumed if you did this it invalidated any insurance with them making you liable for all repair costs.

I believe that's why they say it's not a good idea to buy a used rental vehicle. 😎

@@DavidsAdventuresAndBuilds yeah my mom bought an enterprise windstar with 75k on it and it went to 230k no abnormal issues...its all about proper inspection before purchase and maintainance after purchase.

Happy Birthday Matt! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to the whole MORR team! 🎄
Thank you for the many hours of entertainment you given me this past year! I look forward to many more.
You guys are great! 👍
Guy worrying that maybe he's going to get in trouble if he says he left the car running & it shut itself down by seizing or going into Safe Mode "I ran it 4-5 minutes with the AC on." Then...more worried..."I ran it for 3-4 minutes...so I know it runs." 🤓
Well I'd have to agree with Matt, 32 is not cold. It's -21 with a -58 windchill here in North Dakota right now. Awesome video, it's good to see we aren't the only ones having "fun" in the snow right now.

I don't think off-road use is covered by the rental agreement either.

And tire chains would be a proper accessory.
They have the Rugged Radios they recently got for that purpose.
A couple of cheap Chinese VHF radios for comms between vehicle when directing towing/pulling would be very useful.
That's a lot of different radios lol.
They hv radios to use to vehicle to vehicle but they always forget them lmao I've heard them say that alot lol
Not making fun of the driver, reading the manual... he's a gentleman and a scholar!

To get it into neutral, you have to remove the key from the fob, and put it in the key slot next to the gear shift
not on all vehicles.. some are hidden levers you need to find, maybe the centre console, maybe the dash... you use the key to slide the lock then lift the lever.. and then need to slide the lock to lower the lever.
Better call Hazmat, the EPA and Greta.... They're going to lock that boy up for a long time
And those who told you to look in the owners manual were right;) .
MORRy Christmas to the crew & the best of the season to your (extended) family!
If the battery died, I can’t imagine you could unlock the steering or parking brake without taking stuff apart.
lol 9:36 Matt pretends to pump gas when he’s actually pumping gas. (…to appease the out-of-fuel haters.) 😂

Jamie is so cute. Love her going with Matt on reccoveries.
Matt is so respectful of people when they’ve screwed up. But I’d love to be a fly on the wall in the shop off camera
That first recovered car reinforces my weariness of new cars, do I have to install a custom firmware to get the car to do what I wish ??
It depends, do you want to go off roading?
You just have to keep your common sense handbook in your purse 👜
@@JohnFL well yes, and that’s where AI typically doesn’t take the best decisions, especially when the going gets tough, but also where one often finds oneself stuck behind a software wall preventing any creative practical solution to a hairy problem that a person can come up with, and I can understand it’s to protect newer smarter components, however these newer components are realistically never made to take any abuse hence the need to protect them, giving Matt more jobs to do, and with a truck that has it’s driver be the smartest component about it.

Matt: Those radios seem to be really helping on rescues. Technology is great!
Think they for got to bring them again a few flash ing light as well warn other vehicles
I think they were using their cellphones in the second one.
Give him a break. He's only just started to remember to fill up with gas. Haha.
Or if it is out of 12V energy, there is emergency release button under interior shift lever cover. The distance for towing should not be more than 50km and speed more than 50km/h .
I truly enjoy your videos! When I see you in the sand & on slickrock, I take notes. As a guy who was raised where my only off-roading is mud or snow, I do get a kick out of watching you in snow! What are the chances that Hertz will not charge that first fella for a new engine? Rental companies usually have a disclaimer that says the customer is on the hook for damages from off-roading. It has been my experience that Hertz never misses an opportunity to find new ways to take a customer's money.
He was retarded, deserves to pay. Probably has a miriad of financial scams on the go that will cover the cost anyway.

And don’t forget CHAINS for the tires.
That is the perfect car for exploring that area. 🤪😜
Yeah, it's a rental. And all rentals are both four wheel drive, and the fastest car on the road.

That dude is gonna get a new one torn open by Hertz. Read the fine print: just about every rental contract says you CANNOT take their cars off paved roads. They are gonna stick it in, then break it off.
You may want to add some flashy lights.
Carry emergency flares at the least. Have yet to see, a 1st aid kit, fire extinguisher, or so much as a basic gallon of water for rinsing.
Fortune favors the prepared.
Most rentals will void your insurance for driving off pavement. I bet that got VERY expensive for the customer...
I have never heard of this. Also I know almost no paved driveways, most agree gravel or cobblestone
All the rented vehicles (cars & RV's) I've rented in the USA (from the UK) have stipulated not to drive them on dirt roads. At the time I (correctly?) presumed if you did this it invalidated any insurance with them making you liable for all repair costs.
