"If you bring forth what is within you, what is within you will save you. If you don't bring forth what is within you, what is within you will destroy you." - I've taken this to mean that the things one would hide and keep secret are typically darker manifestations of human consciousness, and as such they have the potential to either grow uncontrollably, or fester and rot. Things a person believes they must hide often carry feelings of guilt or shame. What we are ashamed of, if swept into the darker corners of our minds might fester and rot there from neglect. What we may have to feel guilty over, we might lock away so that it can never come out into the open to reveal our guilt. But those things can grow like a beast or monster in the shadows and it's not until the beast breaks loose revealing it's ugliness that we realize how large and uncontrollable it has become while we pretended it didn't exist. In either case, bringing such elements out of the darkness into the light of our acknowledgment and awareness, has the potential to liberate us, rather than bind us to those things. Whereas attempting to hide or deny the darkness within us will potentially destroy us.
A continuance of that idea, only slightly different, I also considered that this phrase might possibly align with the hermetic teaching that "All is mind." And I reasoned, that if All is Mind, then All Minds Are One, and if that is true, then there is no thing one would keep to themselves, or keep secret, or try to hide. It's impossible to hide anything when "mind" is shared by All. With this interpretation, to bring out what is within us an act of acknowledging that there is nothing one need hide because ALL IS MIND AND MIND IS ONE. And therefore not bringing out what is within, is akin to not having the knowledge of the truth; not knowing truth can definitely destroy a person.
And recently I heard of a study about measuring the frequency of human emotion which claimed to find some unexpected results. The study apparently revealed that the highest frequency emotion human beings are capable of, was not Love - like myself and so many others might have guessed - but it is the expression of AUTHENTICITY.
I wonder if this teaching of Jesus in the Gospel of Thomas has anything to do with authenticity? It certainly could, in my opinion.
The kingdom is like a man who had a hidden treasure in his field without knowing it. And after he died, he left it to his son. The son did not know (about the treasure). The Gospel of Thomas is like a list of vague expressions about the most incredible truths in the universe which makes it a kind of cipher or code that still needs one more step towards understanding. But rather than seeing any of this as a negative, instead see it as a list of invaluable clues. There are thousands of gurus, teachers and would be prophets putting out videos and books 24/7 that accidently have a few pieces of the puzzle but in actuality are likely further from a full understanding than you are. Keep the list of sayings in the Gospel of Thomas in mind as you go forward and look for information that resonates and fits with each of the sayings attributed to Jesus. This will allow you to finalize some of the pieces on your own but if you are persistent you just may witness some divine intervention that will lead you where you need to go.
As he said... similar to the Proverbs:

If you want to know why this gospel was rejected, I looked up some reasons, do with it what you like, (disclaimer I am no historian or expert, I was just curious)
- It was never oficially rejected, it was just not read universally and liturgically like the other gospels, only a few used it as it was virtually unknown.
- Dating is still being debated, for many believe that if it was late text it would've been rejected immediatly, others believe that division of christianity in fractions could not have happened so early on because the church used to be very homogenous and gnostic believes only enterd after 100 AD after Christianity already being established
- It contains no primary material like other gospels.
- It is a mildly gnostic text that strays from and is in contrast with sound doctrine that came before it.
- It has no narrative, it only tells what Jesus supposedly said but not about what he did, it has no primary material
Some people currently consider it as an indepented book outside of the canon and do read it. And many don't. There are more non canon books that are still being read today, they are just not in the main Bible for a variety of reasons.

The saying about 2 become 1 could also mean when you are with your soulmate and you see yourself/selves as one, but i think it does mean looking to balance the external and the internal.

I think you are right. It also clears up the "son of man" for me. I've always tried to figure out why Jesus called himself that. If the "son of man" describes the union of the feminine and masculine soul where they are rejoined in unity and this is considered "man" then it makes sense.

Most all of the things stated in this book of Thomas have already been addressed in existing biblical texts .. therein is all there a man needs for enlightenment, a higher self, an awakening and spirituality.. but to know the rest of the story you will need the full history .. meaning the Apocryphal books. Read an awaken to the truth of what Jesus did to save man from themselves and the inevitable face to face with God the Father, the Creator. To fear is to hold in reverence … fear God for you were fearfully and wonderfully made, chosen, and known before you were formed for such a time as this. Shalom is “peace”.

I still need my human world to get something to eat or to clean my house. So i dont like the word illusion, because "its" still there. It can be detectd by our sense.
