I prospected for 19 months. Halfway through my prospecting a 64 year old started his journey. I could have earn my patch earlier. But I helped the older guy and let him take credit as some of the stuff he was having a hard time physically. I didn’t mind. I learned a lot from him.
I’ve ran into a few older people who flat out didn’t deserve respect but for the most part they have so much to teach they just need a little time to articulate what they want to say. Lending someone a minute if your time can give you a invaluable lesson. Thanks for giving the old timer your attention.
You can 100% do it for 1%. We have a 63 year old prospect. The average age in my club is 30 right now. The young bucks want and respect the older dudes. They love the old school mix with the young. It adds balance. SO if your older, go for it. Its all about the heart you put in. H-R

Good words! Me, I was approached by one of the "big 3" outlaw 1% clubs to prospect for them when I was about 54. I almost did, and it was an honor. I'm still friends with those guys, but I decided to go with a smaller 3 piece patch club. I did the hang around with them kind of by accident. Just got to know them, they were frequently in my bar (I run the Legion post locally), and that led to prospecting and now I'm a full patch with the M/C. It's great. I'm 58 now, and I'm not even the "old man" of the club, even though most of them are younger. Even when the 1% club pres approached me, I told him that I was too old for too much hazing and shit, and he said that, yea, I'd still be prospecting, they take into account my age and that I'm a veteran. He said the real hard prospect hazing was for the young guys, to shake out those who couldn't hack it. Older guys, especially veterans, had already 'hacked it'. So, if you're an older guy, I say go for it if club life is what you want.

I prospected as I was retiring from active duty at the age of 42. I really enjoyed the entire process and as a Veteran club, it provided me an opportunity to learn about the culture. Can't rush that hangaround or prospect time. MLR Joker

I know many guys that started prospecting at 50+, some make it and some don't, at the end of the day it comes down to the individual and how much they want it and if their health is still with them. When I was 18, first year of active duty, I remember looking at these guys retiring at 38-40 years old and thinking, god damn they old as fuck, what are they gonna do for a living that old after retiring. I’m 38 now and im pretty sure I can still hang with the youngins hahahahah Never too old
I think older prospects that are to old our better prospects are better cause their wise and have nothing to prove its the hot headed young prospects that don't know how to be smart and wise make good decisions sometimes it's better to be calm and collective not have the attitude you will do anything and everything for a patch just chill stop and be wise old guys have more to offer than being a hot head

Its only goin to change as u level up year to year but now that im thinkin about it, younger men would be easier to train and mold since they are just green to alot of stuff vs the old man who may be set in his ways and may not wanna deal with someone possibly younger than him tellin him what to do but on the flipside to that coin, he may know how to humble himself to deal with it vs the young bull who is ready to buck just because as an act of defiance

Many reasons. I know guys that just worked hard 12-14 hrs days minimum to support family, or barely money to buy a bike, in and out of prison, in areas with no MC, rural area, etc
This is exactly what happened with me, my kids are now grown up & other responsibilities have lessened, I found myself with more free time and not wanting to just vegitate on the couch after work!! So as I write this, I'm a stones throw away from 47 im currently prospecting with a local tribe chapter... so far loving it

in the UK they still piss on your jeans, whip you and make you stand in the fire till your boots melt, then if you pass that, they kick your face in, if you return, when you get out of hospital they will loan you a bottom rocker, then its 6-month hard work to get your patch and another 25 years hanging onto it. I done that at 20 doubt I would do it again at 65. the good old days hu!

Hit the half century mark in February and I'm wanting to become part of a support club. Was offered an invite, but politely turned it down because my girlfriend was up in arms over it. I left it kinda open ended (I hope) with the guy who invited me though. My question to y'all is what have you done to convince your old ladies or girlfriends to start this new chapter in your life? The guy who invited me had said his girlfriend and a problem with it, until he was able to ease her mind on the stereotypical mindset. For me, I don't want to throw away a relationship with my lady, over joining a club. On the other hand, I also don't need anyone restricting my viewpoints....especially the older I get. It's tricky because she won't tell me what to do and never does, but in respect to her, this is the only topic of discussion she is not open minded to. If you feel you’re too old to prospect, then you’re too old to keep your patch. It’s going to be harder to keep the patch then getting it. There are clubs of all kinds. If you feel like it is too much work, then it hasn’t have anything to do with age. You just need to find right club
I do like the way you think. That’s what I tell everyone. People sometimes get a bad taste in their mouth from a bad experience. As you and I say that usually comes from the hang around period. Some people rush to quick to join a club for its name and prospect as fast as possible. They forget the whole reason in joining a club. You have to find the right club that fits you and you fit them.
I'm 51 ridden solo my whole life. Known plenty of 1%ers, local clubs, family clubs, Christian clubs, motorcycle ministries, outlaws, ultimately I never found a club that I felt was a good fit. Until a couple of years ago. Since then I've gotten. To know a certain club. Many of the members have become good friends of mine. I turned 51 in October, in November I decided to take the plunge. It took me almost 2 years of getting to know these guys before I decided that I wanted to be a part of it. I am an official hang around now at 51 years old. I won't start prospecting until I'm 52 I'm sure. By the time I get my full patch I'll be 53. I wouldn't have it any other way!

I noticed that they will patch in a guy that doesn't even know the difference between a Sportster and a Dyna before they even talk to the guy that has a passion for bikes. I even noticed a lot of them will give you that 1000 yard stare and have nothing to say to you but walk around like they are better than you. I learned along time ago I'm good enough to wear a military uniform but I'm not good enough to wear that patch. So if one has it in them go for!
Like I tell people just like in other groups or even military is that there so many personalities and no everyone will mesh. Every club is different and even every chapter within a club might be different. I my self love having a good time and don’t hold myself high and mighty. I don’t treat anyone different. I don’t care is you are broke and no job or a dr. End of day we are all men and I will treat you with that respect until I see that I don’t get that respect back. Thanks for the comment

Just first meeting a club and hanging out. Then the process will flow. They have to invite you to first be official hang around and make sure you want to go on the journey
As a club pres I dont look at age . I look for respect and loyalty to the club . The biggest concern is the fitness as we train 3 times a week also you can`t be a foot soldier for the club if you can`t keep up or handle your business . Brother Tramp

As with most things, from mafia to religious cults, you aren't given enough information to make a wise decision whether to join, or not, until you know enough to know you wouldn't have joined, if you had known coming in. Social riding groups are too filled with 'racers', 'show-offs' and entitled punks; while 1%'s have far too much 'social' baggage and personal risk to seriously contemplate. It's not that (as a rider for 50-years) wouldn't join a good Club if it were around (hell, I'd probably move to where they are, for the right club)...but they just don't exist. Even if you are a prospect to a great club today...by the time you are patched, it could be total dog-dump...and as with most groups...it's always easier to get in, than get out! MC's have tried to fill this 'raging void' for decades...without success. The next time you hear someone say, 'an MC is the way to go', ask them when's the last time they went out of town (visit the Grand Canyon, or Maine's color change, etc.)...the answer will be 'never'...as most 'real MCs' have their 'always wear your colors' motto (or I guess you can drive the station wagon)...that makes living (or riding) in 'hostile territory' a bit difficult.
Great comment. As a majority I could see that but I know many clubs that do trips to the Grand Canyon etc. I myself believe every club needs a person assigned to different rides. I love going on trips all over the US and always get brothers to go with me. The more I do this the bigger my “travel pack is “ many clubs do long rides to different chapter events all over. But I like taking scenic stops and road splits. Few years ago I had my group go to Sedona, bryce, Moab, Grand Canyon, Montana, Gatlinburg, etc. So it depends on the the club and the people in that particular chapter. I also know clubs that their colors are good just about anywhere and everywhere. I see your point and I hope to change things little by little. At least in my area. Thanks 🙏

55 yrs old. Yesterday i pulled into a convince store ran into two 1% we struck up a convo. One guy told me if you ever want to stop in your more then welcome.Thing is his chapter is 2 hrs away. The chapter he was visiting was closer. I wanna stop by but do I drive two hours away? or do I pull up at the place that we first met at and say hey so so told me to stop by.
I would go the 2hrs and stop by there if that’s the chapter he was from and was talking about passing by. You only want to go to the club house that that patch holder is from and gave an invite. Hope you got his name so you can mention it when passing by. Then when there you can tell them Where you live and they will reach out and make sure it’s cool

Hit the half century mark in February and I'm wanting to become part of a support club. Was offered an invite, but politely turned it down because my girlfriend was up in arms over it. I left it kinda open ended (I hope) with the guy who invited me though. My question to y'all is what have you done to convince your old ladies or girlfriends to start this new chapter in your life? The guy who invited me had said his girlfriend and a problem with it, until he was able to ease her mind on the stereotypical mindset. For me, I don't want to throw away a relationship with my lady, over joining a club. On the other hand, I also don't need anyone restricting my viewpoints....especially the older I get. Would love to hear some feedback on this from all of you.

It's tricky because she won't tell me what to do and never does, but in respect to her, this is the only topic of discussion she is not open minded to. I tried several times to reassure her that I'm not looking at being a drug mule, gun runner, or running a prostitution ring.
If you feel you’re too old to prospect, then you’re too old to keep your patch. It’s going to be harder to keep the patch then getting it. There are clubs of all kinds. If you feel like it is too much work, then it hasn’t have anything to do with age. You just need to find right club
I do like the way you think. That’s what I tell everyone. People sometimes get a bad taste in their mouth from a bad experience. As you and I say that usually comes from the hang around period. Some people rush to quick to join a club for its name and prospect as fast as possible. They forget the whole reason in joining a club. You have to find the right club that fits you and you fit them.

I'm 51 ridden solo my whole life. Known plenty of 1%ers, local clubs, family clubs, Christian clubs, motorcycle ministries, outlaws, ultimately I never found a club that I felt was a good fit. Until a couple of years ago. Since then I've gotten. To know a certain club. Many of the members have become good friends of mine. I turned 51 in October, in November I decided to take the plunge. It took me almost 2 years of getting to know these guys before I decided that I wanted to be a part of it. I am an official hang around now at 51 years old. I won't start prospecting until I'm 52 I'm sure. By the time I get my full patch I'll be 53. I wouldn't have it any other way!

I noticed that they will patch in a guy that doesn't even know the difference between a Sportster and a Dyna before they even talk to the guy that has a passion for bikes. I even noticed a lot of them will give you that 1000 yard stare and have nothing to say to you but walk around like they are better than you. I learned along time ago I'm good enough to wear a military uniform but I'm not good enough to wear that patch. So if one has it in them go for!
Like I tell people just like in other groups or even military is that there so many personalities and no everyone will mesh. Every club is different and even every chapter within a club might be different. I my self love having a good time and don’t hold myself high and mighty. I don’t treat anyone different. I don’t care is you are broke and no job or a dr. End of day we are all men and I will treat you with that respect until I see that I don’t get that respect back. Thanks for the comment

You can't tell someone they have potential then one of your members shows up and puts their hands on someone you love. When that person done nothing wrong to them. Then expect for you to join their MC like nothing ever happened. I guess my question is how do you find out which one is for you then?

Just first meeting a club and hanging out. Then the process will flow. They have to invite you to first be official hang around and make sure you want to go on the journey
At 43 and still riding a Nightster I have a feeling I would get dragged if I tried to join a club.

As a club pres I dont look at age . I look for respect and loyalty to the club . The biggest concern is the fitness as we train 3 times a week also you can`t be a foot soldier for the club if you can`t keep up or handle your business . Brother Tramp

If you use age as an excuse then you don't want it bad enough
As with most things, from mafia to religious cults, you aren't given enough information to make a wise decision whether to join, or not, until you know enough to know you wouldn't have joined, if you had known coming in. Social riding groups are too filled with 'racers', 'show-offs' and entitled punks; while 1%'s have far too much 'social' baggage and personal risk to seriously contemplate. It's not that (as a rider for 50-years) wouldn't join a good Club if it were around (hell, I'd probably move to where they are, for the right club)...but they just don't exist. Even if you are a prospect to a great club today...by the time you are patched, it could be total dog-dump...and as with most groups...it's always easier to get in, than get out! MC's have tried to fill this 'raging void' for decades...without success. The next time you hear someone say, 'an MC is the way to go', ask them when's the last time they went out of town (visit the Grand Canyon, or Maine's color change, etc.)...the answer will be 'never'...as most 'real MCs' have their 'always wear your colors' motto (or I guess you can drive the station wagon)...that makes living (or riding) in 'hostile territory' a bit difficult.
Great comment. As a majority I could see that but I know many clubs that do trips to the Grand Canyon etc. I myself believe every club needs a person assigned to different rides. I love going on trips all over the US and always get brothers to go with me. The more I do this the bigger my “travel pack is “ many clubs do long rides to different chapter events all over. But I like taking scenic stops and road splits. Few years ago I had my group go to Sedona, bryce, Moab, Grand Canyon, Montana, Gatlinburg, etc. So it depends on the the club and the people in that particular chapter. I also know clubs that their colors are good just about anywhere and everywhere. I see your point and I hope to change things little by little. At least in my area. Thanks 🙏

I am 75 proud Marine Corps Vietnam vet am I too old to prospect
55 yrs old. Yesterday i pulled into a convince store ran into two 1% we struck up a convo. One guy told me if you ever want to stop in your more then welcome.Thing is his chapter is 2 hrs away. The chapter he was visiting was closer. I wanna stop by but do I drive two hours away? or do I pull up at the place that we first met at and say hey so so told me to stop by.
I would go the 2hrs and stop by there if that’s the chapter he was from and was talking about passing by. You only want to go to the club house that that patch holder is from and gave an invite. Hope you got his name so you can mention it when passing by. Then when there you can tell them
