  • PEAK DISTRICT WALK FEATURING HAYFIELD, LANTERN PIKE AND LITTLE HAYFIELD
    “Hillsides of Hayfield”
    Filmed 1st September 2016
    Post-production completed 30th September 2016
I regularly pass through Hayfield, a beautiful village in the Peak District and once the home of a famous actor, so today I decide to explore it in more detail and do a circular walk in the area. My walk takes me on a long climb up to the top of the superb Lantern Pike, where the views are worth the effort…..
Filmed in the Peak District in the county of Derbyshire. Locations include Hayfield, Birch Vale Reservoir, Lantern Pike, Little Hayfield, Middle Moor and Snake Path.
Written, researched, directed, camera and sound, edited and music by Patrick Leach.
Any other names credited in this film, i.e. Bob Morgan and Martin Roy, are pseudonyms, which I used at the time of making this film. However, I no longer use these pseudonyms as I want viewers to be clear that my films are completely my own work.

I was brought up in Hayfield 1943-1959 and enjoyed your video - as did many other folk judging by the response when I posted a link to your video on the "Hayfield Memories" page of Facebook

Hi Bruce and thank you! I did see the comments on the "Hayfield Memories" page yesterday evening, which was really nice to see. I was able to "like" the comments but unable to post responses, presumably because I'm not a member of the group. Thanks again. Cheers, Patrick :-)

Even though living in Buxton for over forty years, I only ever passed through Hayfield to go to Glossop once. It's great to see the village with many views of the various streets, and it does seem to certainly have some charm about the place. Going up to Lantern Pike was well worth your climb, with such lovely views of the surrounding and distant areas. Many thanks Patrick, this has been most enjoyable to watch.

I pass through Hayfield a lot, mainly for work, but it certainly is a lovely village. I remember that climb onto Lantern Pike, but so worth it for those views. Thanks Ffranc for watching and commenting 👍

    Really enjoyed that Patrick.
I occasionally drive through Hayfield when visiting Buxton, and have never stopped to take a look, even though I keep promising myself I will take a look at Arthur Lowe's house.
For a small area Hayfield and Little Hayfield has a lot to be proud of hasn't it,home of Arthur Lowe,Tony Warren,Pat Phoenix and the mass trespass which ultimately gave us the freedom to do all these wonderful walks, strange how they built the bypass through the middle of the village though.
Lovely village and countryside, thanks for sharing.
    Pete.

Hayfield is a lovely place which is often overlooked by passer by because of the bypass that splits the village. I'm often there for lunch stops when I working up in High Peak. Thanks Pete for watching. Cheers, Patrick :)

Thanks Patrick, really enjoyed watching your video from Australia and seeing what it’s like where by ancestors lived. Really interested in the churches seen as there doesn’t seem to be much information online, especially for St. John’s. I’ve got a marriage certificate from my great great grandparents in 1886 and it just says hayfield church but I know they were methodists.

A very nice video, great production values. I live along the Sett Valley Trail in Birch Vale and your walk is one of our many favorites that we can do from our back door. You captured the place wonderfully and provided many historical tidbits that I never knew, despite living here for 30 years..;-)

really well done ! Found the Arthur Lowe information interesting as I recently acquired a dvd of several Dads army episodes . That and seeing a Camra pub to boot! what more could you ask for !

Thanks Gregg, apparently the whole cast of Dad's Army played cricket in Hayfield as part of Arthur Lowe's fund raising. That particular CAMRA pub I've never actually been in, must do it sometime! Cheers, Patrick :-)

Lantern pike pub was the scene of a grisly murder back in the 1920s.
Don't think I'll be staying there.
