      I had hoped to use these in my own videos, sadly they don’t appear to be available in Canada. If anyone knows if they are available on a licensing service, I would be great full.

    Hi Athena! I think that you have a great selection of gear for an afternoon hike! As a fellow hiker/backpacker, I would suggest that you also bring a small knife or a multitool. It is always handy and I found a use for so much reason. But for example, if you've sprained your ankle , it is easy to cut of some t-shirt to bandage your foot. It is also really practical to open a dry-food bag. There are a lot of brand that are really nice to look at. If you want something really simple and very cheap, you can look at Opinel (a french brand that makes many sizes of the same knife). You probably know Victorinox (the original Swiss knife), they have a lot of great products depending on what you're looking for in terms of accessories (wood saw, big and small blade, magnifier, pliers, leather puncher, small scissors, etc.). Victorinox also make great multitool, but are often heavier than a regular knife. As a Canadian, temperature tends to be from really hot to really really cold here and so, I'm always carrying some survival blanket just in case I have to stay the night in the mountains/the forest (it has happened to me a few times). I would suggest to look at "SOL Emergency Bivvy" (www.surviveoutdoorslonger.com/shelters/survive-outdoors-longer-emergency-bivvy.html) a really light and compact, and really cheap alternative to being cold and wet a night long. Personally, I also carry a cheapier version (www.surviveoutdoorslonger.com/shelters/survive-outdoors-longer-emergency-blanket.html) of the same brand to give away when someone is in need (while snowshoeing in Quebec, I give probably 4-5 each winter to people that aren't prepared whatsoever for the harsh and freezing-cold conditions). Finally, you could also carry a small medical kit, with a size relative to the type and duration of your trips. You could look into the brand "Adventure medical kit" (www.adventuremedicalkits.com/?SID=b1l4qd4n37amgrfi9jap7r7on2&token=9c3939fa1865015f6a11aa9cbe8da067) and find one that is perfect size for your adventures. The "Mountain Series" are really nice for backpacking a couple of days, but for an afternoon hike, you could use the Ultralight .3, a really nice and small product that is water tight (www.adventuremedicalkits.com/medical-kits/ultralight-watertight.html). Just be sure to add some "water purification tablets" (www.amazon.ca/Aquatabs-Active-Water-Purification-Tablets/dp/B00NB40KLG/ref=sr_1_13?crid=3AVNN4BN972GK&dchild=1&keywords=pristine+water+purification&qid=1579009524&sprefix=pristine+%2Caps%2C174&sr=8-13) like those in case you need more water during your hike. I would also suggest to add some medication (Acetaminophen, Ibuprofen) just in case and a few bandaids. Let me know if I could be useful for anything else (e.g. choosing the right knife).

    Lovely video Athena, there really is something about the way the light hits the land near dusk in the later part of the year. Would you consider doing a video about your top picks of all of the walks you have experienced so far, and maybe even rate them in terms of their beauty their difficulty and the level of planning involved. It would be very handy for less experienced walkers.

    Recently subbed. Liking your vids, good music and well edited. I did wonder ref the Patagonia comment as you do have a ‘few’ items. I think Patagonia are a great outdoor clothing company. They do have a cost factor but really ethical. Love their environmental stance and that part of the cost goes back to the workers too. Makes me happy buying/owning their products. ATB Ant 👍🏻🙂

I do enjoy your videos and it looks like you have an excellent landscape on your doorstep. I was hoping you were going to show us what 'Cakes of Bread' is on the ground... :-) I spotted it on the map in the summer but didn't have the time to explore it myself while I was in the area.

    Ah! I loved this video, I have done this walk before myself and it's lovely at this time of year. Did you try the OS app a fair few months ago and found it clunky and buggy?. I have the premium OS too and I'm finding they're really on it with the Android app and it's really improving and becoming far more stable and usable with every update. I still use paper maps too but it's nice to get a second opinion from the GPS sometimes. :)

    • @RambleFamily
      @RambleFamily  4 роки тому +2

      Yes exactly. I mostly use the website to check the distance more accurately, but then just use the paper map when I'm out and about. I find the combination of the two works really well for me! My issue with apps for hiking is that I have an iPhone which have notoriously shocking battery life, so it tends to die immediately when the weather is cold...!

Also super warm 🙏🏼 The only thing I would say is that the fabric is quite delicate and I do have a few tips and tears which I’ve taped up with tenacious tape. I only got those from alpine and climbing though, not from hiking. Athena

    Hi I really like your videos, well done. Maybe one thing that would be nice, when you are editing. The sound of the music is much higher than the sound of your voice. So one has to turn volume up and down doing the video. Keep up the good work
