      @@thebadluckboys Dr Ed is warm, safe and loved, we can see from the videos how well he is cared for. Unlike those poor oldies shoved in care homes and abused by caretakers. Just because you wouldn’t be prepared to care for a parent with dementia don’t judge someone who is prepared to do so, instead of handing him off to strangers. The videos document that he is in great hands.

      @@thebadluckboys 💌 IF Dan was exploiting, he would not attend / speak at Alzheimer's conventions, where he could be the target for criticism. Dan is certainly helping me + others heal from the trauma and recover from society's STIGMA of a mentally unwell parent. Many isolated years for me with no one to turn to. And yes my soul mate died young at 40 + suddenly while l coped with my mom's aggressive baffling, highest level dementia. I was heartbroken for her. Dan is an example for those coping now.

      You saw 6 min of behavior and interaction that may have even been edited... not the entire hr prior that Dan mentioned... & u speak on it from a distance. You have no idea what the experience is like from their vantage point. I live w/ my grandmother, who is 97. She is a blessing to have. & its a privilege to serve & care for her. But the lifestyle is taxing & comes w/ many flavors. Grandpa is polite bc the values of that generation don't leave them. I've worked w/ seniors since i was 15 yrs old...That group from the early 20th century & prior is just an entirely diff breed. Notice the things that matter the most to grandpa...being prepared in case something happens...having resources available...having done a good job in life...his reputation...family....especially family....& being available & there for those whom he's responsible. These people were/are giants. I call them legends. But they can be equally as headstrong & insufferable once they get on a certain wavelength & frequency. ..I love them dearly, For me, there are more pluses than minuses....As Dan said, it's just a part of it.

      Most definitely....well deserved.. he just a wee bit of "short" term memory loss.." long" term he remembered where the pictures of his parents that it is a "safe" spot to put things..just curious...thinking a picture of his grandson "josh" with a "tape measure, retractable" could help him remember him.* ( i mean using objects to help either identify those in the immediate family circle... or like what is it about his brother "bill" that hes looking to find him...or see if hes ok... are there old movies or cds or other media in which bills voi e is present...(*) ok if there was ever a benefit to AI ... i would support this kind.. if it could help DR ED with remembering his brother "Bill"...or when the times that were good, he could experience that moment and be happy...ok getting lengthy..but when you love someone so much like you do dan & others..you just pick youre brain a little bit on ways you might think will fix them.. fix the situation. Cure the. If theres a way...and Dan along w others support..... your taking on a very lovingly courageous task ..may peace be with you n yours ....

      A man of his stature needs to feel autonomy and needs to have keys to a house in his pocket even if he's no longer a homeowner, a car out in the driveway. Dan, My Dad has Alzheimer’s and is in a memory care facility. He’s a Colonel and sometimes I show up to visit and the nurse will tell me “The Colonels on the warpath!” I just turn right around and visit another day. His anger can be spectacular! Bless you for keeping him home!

    • @potocatepetl
      @potocatepetl 6 місяців тому

      @@melissar.2594 if he could handle the situation, his father would be with him at home. He obviously doesn't! Making assumptions about a situation you obviously know little about shows very poor skills and wonder how good you are at your job. Even if the son could handle the situation in theory, you do not know how the dementia patient would take it. It highly depends on the past and the bond of the dementia patient with the child. Some people had close relationships, others didn't or even worse, had a tense relationship. In that case their presence could to more damage than help! Not to mention that staff is payed to do their job not share the job with family members. The reason for family to be there is to share time with their sick family member, show them love and keep the memories and feelings going as much as they can, not help you! And all that you won't do when they are in aggressive mode! They need someone with authority in that cases and a child will never be able to show a parent (who lives in the past) authority, especially not a parent with his job!

      @dsalnorcal1434 my gma forget alot & repeats herself constantly, although it seems alot of the constant repeating has gone down over the last month or so. She was sharp as a tac a couple years ago, but she had a small stroke that they were able to desolve, and symptoms came a few months later. She also does the sundowners & sleeps alot. Your dad is a fair worse than she is, but who knows how fast or slow that can change. You're a true inspiration & will definitely use your experiences to hopefully help down the road. The way your dad seems reminds me alot of how i envision her to be. She has always been so sweet & i pray this disease will not make her that way. It would break my heart even more if she gets violent or mean in the future. Im sure you know but people are looking up to you & appreciate all you do!
