- This is a 3 day trip where I spent one night in the Spring Basin Wilderness Area then the following day I day hiked / car sight see'd my way around the John Day Fossil Bed National Monument complex. Very scenic and awesome early spring trip.
Hey Andrew. It was great running in to you out there in Spring Basin. It’s one of my favorite places for springtime backpacking. It’s really nice a little bit later when the cactus start to bloom. We were glad to see that you found the spring ok. That lack of water in the area really limits the amount of exploring one can do out there. Sorry you didn’t get to see the elk herd. We saw them again from camp that night on a distant ridge. For all things Oregon desert you might check out the non profit Oregon Natural Desert Association for intel on possible future trips. What did you think of Blue Basin?
Thank you for letting me take a picture of that map and your knowledge of the area! Blue Basin was awesome, very unique spot.
I live in the area. You should check out the Aldrich Mountain. It’s the mountain southeast of this video. A trail that goes up to the ponds. And if ya have time, look at the cedar grove. The only Alaskan cedar that’s growing in the lower 50 states. And Blue Mountain is the only Mountain Range that go east and west.
Kudos for just wandering around the hills. I've been wanting to do that for years, but never seem to get around to it. Beautiful country and video!
That is a beautiful area! Very peaceful.
Enjoyed the video!
Oregon is absolutely breathtaking my friend! This looks just amazing!
Amazing! Part of it looks like a different planet!
This turned out to be a really beautiful video!
Can't get enough of those painted hills, some of those ranchers can get pretty ornery to trespassers, and many have good reasons also, I like to use the onx maps app on my phone while hunting and hiking it shows ownership maps .30 bucks a year prescription but can save a person a lot of trouble.
Great video thank you 👍🏻
Absolutely amazing nice sound. I recommend you visit the himalayan mountains k2 and Nangaparbat view point from one place moses peak. Add this sound in your bucket list.
loved the video and the area. what is the name of the camp ground you finished at? thanks
On the north side of the bottom loop of the John Day River, Byrd Rock on Burnt Ranch has Line Shacks located one days ride on horseback apart around the perimeter of the original ranch. Each line shack had a spring, shack with pot belly stove, bed & wood to stay warm in the winter. I don't know if they're still exist .. it would be fun to know! ❤️🙏
Thanks for sharing the video! Truly beautiful country, which i haven't been back to in 35 years. Cheers...
It's great that you are adding the dates of your hike in the body of your video (better yet if they are added in the written summary). Very important for folks trying to assess snow / weather. Folks not from the PNW often are surprised at how long it takes for snow to melt off AND how cool it is in Seattle ! (more applicable in the Cascades than in the desert).
Glad to see your channel is doing well with lots of views. You're replacing Joey whom we never hear from anymore. Thanks for sharing your adventures!
Beautiful video; thank you for sharing! I really like Gaia because it often shows the springs .. anyway, best wishes!
Nice little adventure. Sometimes plan B works out for the best. Happy trails.
Since I grew up on east side of cascades best season is spring for walk in camping dont forget to carry a firearm. Enjoy.
Nice video, Andrew. Enjoyed.
How many liters did you start with?
~2.7
Don't know of any Res. Land around there !??
According to CalTopo & onX 1.5 miles North of Horse Mountain is owned by the "Confederated Tribes of the Warm Springs." There were also signs up along that border, I guess you can hike on it but need to fill out a permit on the highway entrance/TH
Coors light.?
