I would include Mika Salo as a super sub who put in good performances. In 1999 he subbed in 2 different teams, more on the specifics shortly. Having looked resigned for a season on the sidelines, having been unfairly booted from Arrows in favour of Tora Takagi, his first super sub appearance came at round 3 at Imola. Standing in for injured BAR driver Ricardo Zonta, who broke his foot in Brazil, he drove for the team for 3 races, achieving their first finishes of the season in the process before Zonta returned in Canada. However, he's best remembered for replacing Michael Schumacher, who broke his leg at Silverstone that year, and nearly winning the German Grand Prix that year. He also recorded a second podium in front of the Tifosi at Monza
I think Lawson could also be on this list. He came along and was pretty much immediately there with Tsunoda, even beating him on multiple occasions. Plus, he he scored two points for Alpha Tauri at a time in the season where the whole team had scored just 3 previously.
No Winkelhock? #NoOneCanBreakTheWinklerock
You missed Nicola Larini, who stood in for Alesi at Ferrari during the 1994 San Marino GP and finished 2nd.
Liam Lawson is another good mention. In the middle of AlphaTauri's tumultuous 2023 season, de Vries was obviously fired and Daniel Riccardo was called up. At the Dutch Grand Prix a couple races later though he was injured in a practice crash, leading Lawson, a Red Bull developmental driver to step in. He ran 5 races, including a 9th in Singapore, one of the toughest tracks on the calendar
Alex wurz is also to mention!
Winkelhock? Hello?
What about Hülkenberg? 🥲
1. Nyck de Vries - Italy 2022 (Williams)
2. Robert Kubica - Netherlands and Italy 2021 (Alfa Romeo)
3. Oliver Bearman - Saudi Arabia 2023 (Ferrari)
4. Sebastian Vettel - Indianapolis USA 2007 (BMW Sauber)
5. Lucas di Grassi - Silverstone and Nürburgring 2020, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia 2022 (BWT Racing Point Force India Mercedes > Aston Martin Aramco Mercedes)
Don’t know how you can have De Vries 1st. Really kind of a bare minimum in a race that suited the car - not really symptomatic of any future greatness to come!
Someone had to make his debut the overall best for point scoring races, compared to Vettel driving for BMW Sauber, and then the worst and lowest point is Lucas di Grassi getting angry after a hurtful Saudi Arabia Grand Prix in 2022, taking over for the Coronavirus negative tested Vettel.
You misremembered di Grassi with Nico Hulkenberg mate
Tbh i don't think Russel should be on this list as he was a full-time driver that year. Only ones who never drove would be a fair comparison to what Schumacher and Vettel could do, maybe one who was long gone as well
That being said Mercedes should have definitely dropped Valtteri after that drive, but I guess another Mercedes driver competing for the championship in 2021 would've easily given Max the championship, or well... Maybe Russell would've done it 😅
The constant spamming of the WTF1 logo is quiet anoying. It really takes away from it otherwise being a great video.
In headphones it hurts your ears!
