  • Derek Wells is one of the top session guitarists in Nashville, TN. He has played on numerous top 10 albums and singles, and was recently nominated for the 2016 Academy of Country Music Musician of the year award, in the guitarist category. In our visit with Derek in the Truetone Lounge, we talk with him about his gear, and he demonstrates some of his session tools in Part 3 of this 3 part series.

      Yes. Not only does he know when NOT to talk, he know when to talk... and how much. Plus he knows how facial expressions can prompt the guest. He's good. Very comfortable.

    I've been binge watching these videos. Really enjoy the time you take with each artist and the career stories and, of course, the gear. This one (Derek) has been one of my favorites. Keep it up! Please bring in Guthrie Trapp if you haven't already.

    Great interview, great person Derek is. Would've been cool to ask what DCR's he prefers in his low-wind pickups as he's obviously well considered that.

    THE LOW E STRING LIVELY THING HE MENTIONS, IVE GOT A TELE THAT IS VERY LIVELY AND IVE PLAYED ABOUT 70 STRATS AND NONE OF THEM HAVE A LIVELY LOW E STRING,AND I DONT MIND IT SO MUCH ON A BUTTER FEEL GIBSON,BUT I LIKE MY FENDERS TO BE LIVELY

    Agree with Derek on LP's! My 78 CSB LP stays in tune,chimey unplugged and feels great! Only fallback is the weight! Nicknamed ' The Anchor' for REAL!! Matches 50 watt 78 JMP nicely though!

      He is Dolly Parton's band leader and is a session guitarist and record producer. Derek's mother tours with Christopher Cross singing BGV's. Zac
