- Derek Wells is one of the top session guitarists in Nashville, TN. He has played on numerous top 10 albums and singles, and was recently nominated for the 2016 Academy of Country Music Musician of the year award, in the guitarist category. In our visit with Derek in the Truetone Lounge, we talk with him about his gear, and he demonstrates some of his session tools in Part 3 of this 3 part series.
this dude is a great interviewer, because he doesn't talk too much, and all his questions are solid. Thank you!
Thank you. I try to be the host, not the star.
Totally agree, great interview.
Yes. Not only does he know when NOT to talk, he know when to talk... and how much. Plus he knows how facial expressions can prompt the guest. He's good. Very comfortable.
I wish every interviewer was like Zac. Active listener, well researched, and asks INTELLIGENT questions. Ace work.
Thank you. Zac
I've been binge watching these videos. Really enjoy the time you take with each artist and the career stories and, of course, the gear. This one (Derek) has been one of my favorites. Keep it up! Please bring in Guthrie Trapp if you haven't already.
Thank you Chris. Derek was fun to interview, as I had met him right when his career was taking off as a touring player, and have gotten to watch his session career blow up. I need to reach out to Guthrie. Zac
I like his guitars, pedals and amp. He's getting great tone out of all those guitars!
Great interview!!
Thanks for this series and thanks to Derek for doing the interview.
Derek is an absolutely stellar player and an incredibly nice human! This was well done and super enjoyable!
I have known Derek since he was touring with Josh Turner in 2006. Great guy, and player. Zac

+Brian Sutherland He was fun to interview. Thanks for watching, and please share it with your friends.
Thanks for this. I really enjoyed your interview. Glad I found your channel. Derek's passion for tone is infectious. Such a tasty player. I am recording right now and had to switch to my Private Jack speaker, after hearing him say it was his favorite, too.

Great. Amazing history on tha tele.
It's a nice plank of wood!
Great interview, great person Derek is. Would've been cool to ask what DCR's he prefers in his low-wind pickups as he's obviously well considered that.
Great interview series!! I would love to see you interview James Mitchell!!
Great idea Austin. Enjoyed seeing you play with Brent Mason back in June. Zac
Excellent!
Thanks Luke! Zac
THE LOW E STRING LIVELY THING HE MENTIONS, IVE GOT A TELE THAT IS VERY LIVELY AND IVE PLAYED ABOUT 70 STRATS AND NONE OF THEM HAVE A LIVELY LOW E STRING,AND I DONT MIND IT SO MUCH ON A BUTTER FEEL GIBSON,BUT I LIKE MY FENDERS TO BE LIVELY

Agree with Derek on LP's! My 78 CSB LP stays in tune, chimey unplugged and feels great! Only fallback is the weight! Nicknamed ' The Anchor' for REAL!! Matches 50 watt 78 JMP nicely though!
Sounds like a cool guitar!
