I think it's also wise for people to keep in mind that you have to be able to adapt mid game or game to game. In the end, this is still a card game and you are at the random ass mercy of the cards and also of players swiping cards or coins from you either as defense against you or because they legitimately need the card/coin. Don't shoot yourself in the foot because you stagnated sticking to a strategy that was no longer viable due to the way the cards fell and/or how your opponent(s) reacted to the situation at hand.

I've been trying this strategy in a 4 player game and it fails me most of the time. The 3 other players are using the guild/nobles strategy where they grab and hold onto a lot of the coins plus buying cards easily on the green tier. This is despite the playing field contains a lot of the (2-4-1) 2 points cards + (5 or 6) 2 or 3 points cards which is why i attempted this strategy as you suggested. I did tried to be smart and use gold coins to reserve certain cards but i can only do it for so long (i can have max 3 reserve cards). Plus reserving 3 cards with 3 gold coins means i can only grab up to 7 colour coins. So in the end i felt at certain rounds i had no choice but to spend my coins to buy green tier cards & the guild/noble players eventually outpaced me as later in the game they all manage to get free green tier cards. Under these extreme heavy defence scenarios what other tactics/strategies would you recommend to combact that? ... because you said this strategy was designed to defeat the guilds/nobles but i tried a few times and it didn't work despite the playing field having the good cards for a yellow strategy

If everyone is going guild/nobles with heavy coin defense, it just kinda makes the game slow down for everyone, so I'd buy one or two green cards at the beginning to enable the first yellow card buy. Coin defense as a whole group does a lot to neutralize the more vertical strategies, so you should be ahead on pacing vs the other players. I wouldn't be afraid to spend the yellow chips - they're there to spend. You can also grab the 1 point cards at the green level when they're available. Also, don't reserve cards that you don't have a pathway to buying, even if they're 'good', because that can get you into the situation you described- where there's no coins available and your hand is full and you can't afford anything.
If the defense isn't too strong, I like opening by buying one of the 4-2-1 cards by taking three coins three times and yellowing something to get the 4th of the color, which can either be the card you're saving for or whatever you want next, if you see that no one else is going for it/paying attention to you.
      Best of luck!

You keep mentioning "guild strategy" or "guild players"...what is that? Thanks

It's the nobles strategy. Sorry about the inconsistent language, I call it both things.
