Is Hippo rly 1300 ELO?? His situational awareness was incredible in this game. But then again, there isn't rly much to focus on on a map that small. I am still impressed. 👏👏
1300 has a higher skill floor required now than it did a few years ago, to be fair
1300 is way above average.
I think it was pretty good but I wouldn't call it incredible. Reaching Castle Age two minutes before the opponent and putting down a monastery instead of putting down a Castle right away is surely a huge misplay, especially considering he needed to delete the monastery two seconds later to build the Castle. There was a lot of gold wasted on sending monks to their death while the opponent still had a Castle. Once in Imp, I think the quality of play went up a lot, but Castle Age was really rocky.
Please, the way he controlled his vills building that castle was 900 elo-ish. hes def 1300 lol

Only if tower and castle drops are heavily nerfed. Maybe no garrisoning for towers and fewer arrows for Castles. Otherwise, it would get very boring after the novelty wears off.

Can you please do more small maps. The videos are shorter and more digestible and there's action almost immediately. Even the maps you've done before, do them again with different players!
14:10 I made friends with a neighbor and was describing the AoE2 renaissance to him. After about a minute of explaining the game he cut me off and said he played it too. It was awesome. We're best friends now.

I love this series so much. I honestly never watched any AoE games before - only watch and play StarCraft, played AoE only as a kid - and the smallest map series are helping me understand the very basics of the game without being too overwhelming. It's making me curious in checking out regular games and easing me into understanding the game more, love it!

I love the tiny map series. It's easy to follow for my 2023 brain, and it's pretty fast-paced. All the strategy of the normal game, but so much faster!

I'm not American so I've never even seen a "garbage disposal" in a sink like they have in the US but I know for a fact if I did have that, that's the exact sort of thing I would do on a weekly basis
Yeah your close to correct in terms of audience. Small games are exciting I think because every move has such a big effect upon the game.

We need a tiny map mod that nerfs the range of defensive buildings, bombards and trebs. Area denial with these is just so strong that we aren't going to see any other interesting meta develop
I suggest reduce watch towers to 7 range, keep guard tower and castle at 8, and make them not affected by range upgrades. And make BBC 10 and trebs 12

I made a 36x36 8-player map a few days ago, called it "Rocky Arena". Everyone has a 12x8 space out of range of each other's TCs, separated with stone mines and closed off with a single gate towards the center

Now that Twitch allows multistreaming (again), you can do Twitch/UA-cam.
Your videos got me into the age of empires i am addicted now i love it.
This would be a lot more entertaining if I knew why things were happening. Like, instead of zooming in on a tree and asking whether it's a bush or a tree, you could be explaining WHY "turks" are an advantage later in the game, or explain what HippoOnaBus would have to do to get around that tower, and I would watch 19 straight videos, download the game and sink 1,500 hours into it. When you start laughing and I don't understand why, there's a huge disconnect. I can't be the only one. I'll still watch, of course, but what could be.... You've got such a great voice and speaking cadence.
You may be underestimating yourself T90 but these small maps bring AoE2 to a whole dimension.
I can see people being a bit divided tho. Like, some will prefer the quick paced small maps and some will enjoy the longer games. You could even switch from one to the other. I can see it being great practice for rush strategies since you are so close to each other.
When the pros played they never used monks for example. Or just gave up as soon as the castle was up.
I think it goes market houses then castles. Cause if they are housed and u kill there units then they cant build more.

A lot of those RTS mobile games use AoE2 footage for their ads, trying to make the game seem like it for downloads.

It bothers me so much that snippy did not redirect his castle arrows 5 seconds to shoot that palissade and pick up 2 more relics, sending monks and vils to their death instead

Personally, I like 2v2's but i do watch those longer videos in segments but these 30 min videos are good to draw new people in.

I know you expressed being very happy about going to Facebook back when you announced and I don’t know how you and the rest of the community feel now, but I’m glad the contract is up. The fast chat of twitch (albeit lower quality) is more fun to read through as a UA-cam viewer. In terms of what platform to go to, twitch just announced that they allow simulcasting, so if you get partner on twitch you can stream on UA-cam at the same time.
The lower quality chat of twitch is less fun to read through as a UA-cam viewer. The more mature playerbase is a huge draw for AoE2 fans, if I wanted to see hundreds of messages that are just emojis or say :pogchamp: and :bruhwhut: I would go to twitch for that.
@@Milktube T90s twitch audience was already pretty mature??? Looking at videos pre-facebook, most messages still related to the game or what was being discussed. The reason facebook chat was more "mature" was because nobody uses facebook's streaming platform and chat was a ghost town compared to chats on other platforms. Growth is much better through UA-cam and Twitch. Not like this discussion really matters though. Unless some crazy contract is given to him I doubt he'll go to anything other than UA-cam or Twitch.

Baffled that snippy didn't use his vill lead to garrison the castle and shoot down the other castle faster. Also, should've got the wood upgrade to make more space.
The content I'm here for is absolutely the community games. Occasionally I watch a 1v1 if it looks goofy, like this one. But ultimately I'm here for the diplo-drama and community games is where its at.
I am the complete opposite. LEL and tourneys all day every day baby! That's what makes T90 great, something for everyone.

What happened to your garbage disposal? You can try an allen key in the bottom to manually rotate it, or press the button to reset it if it overheated
