As you can guess, I LOVE Frank the Tank! So typical of Labrador enthusiasm for all the things! And handsome!!! Great advice as usual and beautiful images of him!
Thank you! It seems I'm saying that a lot recently. I'm definitely one of those, "PUPPY!!!!!" people. Remaining calm, may be a bigger challenge for me than the dog. Great tips!
Omg ignoring the dog that sounds so hard to do, but yielding great results. Just yesterday I bumped into a cute puppy and I played with him and then tried to take pictures of him and as soon as I would go down he would wanna run to me to play some more making taking a simple snapshot so difficult. Guess next time picture first play later. Thanks for the great video
Yeah it can become super difficult once you have interacted with the dog so best way is to pretty much ignore until after the shoot then you can have play time 😊
This was awesome Jess! You make things looks so easy. I notice that you do things in comfort … love the slippers! Hoping for more in studio videos and how did you make your floor the same colour as the background? What is the first floor that Frank posed on? Looked like wooden flooring.
Hi Jess. Stumbled across your page when checking out horse photography. I have a staffy that takes great pics, and is excitable. I train him, and new ppl exactly the way you handled Frank and his owner. Perfect. I do want to take some awesome pics like you have of him... Im still earning pet photography.. Loved your horse video with the Autumn colours.. Ill most likely view all your videos now. love your style and personality - Dave - Sydney Aust
Hi Dave, what great feedback, thank you so much for your kind words 🙏 calm is definitely key with excitable dogs/owners 😄 So pleased you've found us and I really hope you continue to like the content we put out there. Keep us posted on progress with your staffy 😊
Thank you so much for your kind words and for taking the time to give us feedback Deanna 🙏 It means a lot to us that you are enjoying the content we put out there 😊
nice and suspiciously good timing. I had to cancel a session with a crazy schipperke a fortnight ago, and he's coming back to another try in a few days, so thanks for this.
@@ThatPhotographySpot Taa. I'm hoping that the environment not being all new this time might help a bit too, but not ignoring the dogo was my downfall last time I think.
Amazing Jess. Thank you. Such great insight to great questions to ask before shooting! Would love to know the size of your backdrop if possible. I'm about to order a canvas drop. Yours looks like the perfect size. Thanks.
Thank you so much for those kind words 🙏 The back drops are fabric and are from Click Props, I’ve added a link to their website so you can take a look clickprops.co.uk/product-category/backdrops/ Hope this helps 😊
This is so super useful Jess, thanks so much. I have a big session this weekend and wondering if we have a video somewhere where you show how to turn that rope into a slip knot? Or is it pretty basic and I should be googling that? 😅 thanks!
I found this very helpful. I noticed you actually instructed the dog in parts. Is that typical? Usually I leave that to the owner because I figure the dog wouldn’t listen to me.
I let the owners instruct the dog most of the time. I guess she stepped in as the Lab was very focused on the Ball in her Hand and not so much on his owner. For me its a thing of feeling. My own very reactive dog would get hyper very quickly with a foreign person and impossible to photograph. On the other hand I've had shootings with dogs who are not trained much and the owners are sometimes overwhelmed so I help as needed.
Thank you so much 🙏 The back drops are fabric and are from Click Props, I’ve added a link to their website so you can take a look clickprops.co.uk/product-category/backdrops/. Hope that helps 😊
Hi Jess, hope you are well. Was wondering if you can do a video like this for a client photoshoot in an outdoor setting? I am new to dog photography and want to start a business but am worried about working with an inexperienced client dog. How can I get them to do what I need? Regards Dylan
I love seeing the timer go up but knowing the video is over 11 minutes - bonus content!
😂😂 I am so bad at keeping in the 5 minutes. I mean I could cut it down but then valuable content is lost 🙈
Great advice as always. Thank you .
Glad it was helpful! 🤓
Love how calm you are - Frank the Tank was such a good boy bless him. If you want a boisterous dog just shout ha ha I have two!!!
Being calm is vital when working with a boisterous dog, a top tip would be avoiding eye contact 🙂
Your way of interacting with dogs is so impressive! 10/10. ☺️❤️

I'm not the only one who thought you were actually shooting a dog.
May I know what sized soft boxes you are using? I've pressed the link and it links to a rectangular one!
The soft boxes are 105cm easy open (product code D-180202), the can be purchased from PixaPro (essentialphoto.com) using discount code 10OFFTPSJM 🙂
Hello! What material do you use for the background? cardboard or foam?
Paper 👌
