    It’s absurd that this content with this much information and this high of production value of available for free. This and your other technique video easily beat out most of the paid curriculum I’ve seen for pet photography course.
    Well done! Subbed and binging the rest of your content.

      Thank you 😊 I tried to make the video as useful as I could, I agree there is what seems to be a significant void in content/knowledgeable videos from who actually take photos of animals on a regular basis 😅

    Hi Shane, I have watched a good half dozen of your videos since yesterday and really enjoyed them! I find them very easy to follow and your calm presentation a welcome departure from the more high energy types.
    I have recently purchased my first telezoom (Tamron 70-300) and now also the Raynox DCR-250. It will he fun to try out these new additions during my vacation next week. Thank you also for the dog photo tutorials. I have left photographing our dog almost entirely to my wife, but seeing that I have all of the gear you mentioned in this video, I think I will try to get some shots in myself.
    Hope to see more videos from you in the future!

    Those video clips in the intro about 0:30 were startling; just not used to seeing such a narrow depth of field in video and it gives quite a surreal effect. I would just add that if you intend to take dog action shots a lot, any Nikon mirrorless older than the Z9 is going to make it hard work just because of the AF locking and tracking performance (but the z cameras are otherwise great and if action isn't your main game, are up there with the best). Canon & Sony AF are pretty close to par with Sony a bit surer with good eye contrast, and Canon a bit more reliable when eye contrast is poor (like dark eyed black dogs in backlit conditions). Thanks for taking the time to make this vid.

    thank u so so much for this vid! I made the mistake of buying a fujifilm XT-4... and its autofocus just sucks. I am hoping to get my hands on the Sony A7 iV + 85mm 1.8 lens! I cannot wait to be finally able to take some decent moving shots of my doggo!

    I'm torn between the Sony A7III/IV and the Nikon Z6II.
    I mostly do people, but I also take shots of my German Shorthaired Pointer.
    I'm coming from an old Nikon that doesn't have any type of af eye focusing lol. I'm willing to learn. But I want a good focus system. What are your thoughts?

    Hi Shane, thanks for your informative video.
    I’m starting my own casual freelance pet photography business. I’ve always been super into iPhone photography but decided to save up and buy myself a camera as a step up from smartphone photography. I ordered a canon power shot sx 70 hs but when it arrived I was really disappointed. The photo quality was poor, like the images just weren’t sharp at all, I could have taken better on my phone. So now I’m planning on returning it and getting a different camera. Some of these cameras you recommend are a little out of my budget. Ideally I want nice sharp portrait photos & potentially some good action shots of dogs running etc. for what I’ve described which one camera would you recommend and which one lens would you recommend? I’m hoping to spend under £700 for both camera and lens!
    Sorry I know you’ve kind of answered all this but before I commit to buying another camera I’d just like to be sure! 😅
    Many thanks 😊

    I just came across this video trying to improve my dog photography and noticed the location at the 3:07 portion. First, love your Shiba as I have one as well. The other thing I noticed is the railroad bridge and the other bridge behind it. This is in Bourne, MA correct? If so, I love the area and frequent it in the summertime.

    Ok ok. But how you deal with focusing if you don't have a cam with animal face recognition? Do you move the 1-point AF point above the middle and aim that way? Or what else trick is there? Keeping it in the middle will almost always result in the dogs nose being the focus point or the dogs head is not centered. Ok on vertical shooting, but not in landscape shooting.
    For cats that is much easier. But with my dogs I totally struggle to get close up shots with their eyes being the focus point.
    Or just manual focus and burst shots and hope for the best?

    Please help! A6700 for best AF or a7iii for shallow DOF? The a7iv is too expensive for my current use.

    Hi Shane, I have an A6600 and want to get a wide angle lens for some shots with that 'distorted', cute look. As it is a crop sensor, what would you recommend? I am think of the Tamron 11-20 which would be roughly 16 - 28 (I think). Or is there something else that you would recommend?

    • @ShaneBethlehem
      @ShaneBethlehem  3 роки тому +1

      The Tamron is probably the best option currently on the market still if you want something that's going to be high enough image quality and compact, and it certainly has fast enough autofocus so I think it's good choice

    Hey Shane. Quick question...
    I have the A9. If you were to video dogs running at the camera, what settings would you use? I cant seem to nail my focus too well for dogs running at me in video

    • @ShaneBethlehem
      @ShaneBethlehem  3 роки тому +2

      I don't recall if the a9 was updated to have the real-time eye-AF in video like the a7siii/a7riv/a6600, because if you have that enabled with wide AF it is the best option.
      Otherwise if you use the touch screen to track the dog it can help enable better subject tracking or if you make your focus area as small as you can and still keep the dog in the focus area I find gets me the best results. Stopping down to f4+ is also important if you are struggling to keep up with the doggo. I also find it depends on the lens a lot too and how fast it can focus.
      Regardless it's tricky and requires playing with the settings for you video AF speed.

    • @themarksmanABP
      @themarksmanABP 3 роки тому +1

      @@ShaneBethlehem thank you so much, no the A9 didn't get eye af in video which is a shame.
      I use the 135 GM or 2-600 for the video clips. I will stop the lens down and also use touch to tracking aswell as a small focus box and do some testing.
      Your reply is greatly appreciated. Massive help, thank you

    Hi. any thoughts on the cheaper camera say a6100 and 6400 as a cheaper option or do you have another camera at that price point. Thanks in advance

    • @ShaneBethlehem

      the a6100 is a fantastic camera, and the ZV-1 or ZV-e10 are both solid options now too
