I love the way he quotes Sam Cooke ("don't know much about history") and The Band ("don't know much about the shape I'm in") in "Dust Bunnies". KV is obviously his own man, but you can hear all kinds of Americana influences, all coming together into something new.
The Philadelphia Dream Machine. His haze has been in the background of my life for a few years now and he's only getting better. Hope he's writing tunes for decades to come.
I just discovered Kurt Vile streaming WZRD from Chicago up here in Wisconsin. I Shazammed "Rollin With the Flow," and am I glad I did. Kurt kills as a songwriter and singer, and he's a fascinating guitarist. Doesn't do traditional "leads" but mixes up all the chords and rhythms to lay down a nice bed of sound. The guys he plays with are awesome as well. I've only scratched the surface in the past two days, but "Pretty Pimpin" is my latest favorite song. It just keeps up this drone and beat, and the imagery is just so cool.
I'll go out on a limb and say that Lou Reed would be proud of this young badass singer songwriting band. Great to hear that the torch is still burning bright!
One of my favorite artists of the past 10 years. So lucky to interview him in 2009 on the lawn of a local bar. Thank you KEXP....I've haven't heard a bad song yet. Prolific and I'm predicting he's going to be one of the biggest superstars of this generation. The arrow is going up big time.
I saw him LIVE in Barcelona, in 2014. Never heard of him before that concert. It is my top 1 favourite concert of my life. It changed me, it was surreal. He was like a Jesus Christ with a guitar. I swear, I was so mind-blown I have not been able to feel what I felt those 2 hours.
Only recently found Kurt, but he seems to find so many beautiful riffs, many so simple, but just's brings great songs together, love this band. (Kevin, UK)
There must be some kind of correlation between great musicians and awkwardness. Doug Martsch and Kurt Vile are incredible musicians and really awkward interviews. But man, I’m glad they’re out there making the world a better place.
As I type this and listen along, on 4/13/16, I am thrilled to find a good new artist. I am always actively in search. It is out there. I found another example that rock music is not dead.
I can't wait to listen to the new album on a long roadtrip out West. The perfect soundtrack to cruising down the highway, windows down, rowing through the gears on a sunny summer day.
Kurt and the Violators sound absolutely entrancing live. I don't go to a lot of live music, but this band is one I'm dying to see. I only wish I could've gotten Lollapalooza tickets this year to see them in Chicago. I fell in love with them this past winter and I can't get enough!
went to see him last weekend- he is really nervous when speaking and says some weird (and funny things). Doesn't ruing the show though, he's nothing but a living legend.
Kurt Vile is the best new talent to come along in years! And he sounds original to me. Vocally he doesn’t sound like anybody else and he’s an incredible guitarist! And one more thing, Vile could join almost any band and fit right in as a second guitar 🎸 or backing vocals or lead. He’s so versatile! Thanks KEXP and UA-cam!
I remember meeting Kurt in Ferrara (Italy) back in 2016, he was opening for Wilco. He just had an ice cream at the same spot where I was having a coffee. I asked him to sign one of my drawings on a moleskine sketchbook. He was very kind. A nice moment!
I will never let go of Paul. the jam the style council are completely overlooked in the states. but they did put a stamp here when I was young. legendary songwriting and complete cool.
Just finding out about Kurt Vile because he opened for Wilco on Saturday night at solid sound in Massachusetts. Loved what I heard and then found out he played with "War on Drugs". No wonder I like him! He kinda reminds me of Lou Reed, his singing style.
William Scharmann totally agree... the musicians appreciate her genuine love of music and unlike so many younger presenters she actually knows what to ask and when to just listen. Love ya Cheryl xx

I love this album. Pretty Pimpin sounds a lot like "Boom,Like That" -Mark Knopfler. Not that I'm complaining. This is the best rock LP to come out in a long time.
Woah I definitely never expected to see green grass and high tides mentioned in a Kurt vile comment section. Green grass is one of my all time favorite songs and their other lives versions. Special song and guitar
And they were a sh*load more punk before all that. My man grew up in WA/OR and remembers when they used to tour and play loud, sloppy, fast stuff--then they slowed it all down for the records.
tyvek05 Umm... No. Kurt played a Jag (with two humbuckers) all of the damn time. I believe he had died before the jagstang actually went into production. He just played a mustang with a humbucker in the bridge.
RIP Rob Laakso. 44 was too young.
Rob Laakso
Thanks!@@VagnarLodbrok
Damn I didn't know that he passed 😢
Pretty Pimpin...great riff. Fun to play, impossible to play and sing along to at the same time. The man has talent
Idk man I can do it am I talented then
@@XLR8Gaming8RLX It requires certain talent indeed
It takes a lot of training

How come KEXP live always have this amazing sound ? Failure live performance was astonishing !
something i love about Kurt Vile is that his songs are long, i can enjoy them fully for that reason.
Oh yes, and they never get boring..
i'm a new fan, and i thought the same.
This type of music is why rock n' roll will never die! 🤘
Kurt is an extremely talented guitar player and song writer. I'll be a lifetime listener.
He's also genuine and funny, gotta love the man.
Loving the cookies on the Wurli, great design choice and practical snack feature
+Robert Paulson Snacking knows no rhyme or reason--striking without warning! Ye have been warned! ;)

That's so crazy I just replied to u on another video of another artist
space cookies :) :)
Ok good. Thought I saw cookies- confirmed 👍🏼
Goldtone is just soo gorgeous... could listen to it on repeat forever
The Philadelphia Dream Machine. His haze has been in the background of my life for a few years now and he's only getting better. Hope he's writing tunes for decades to come.
Shoutouts to Cheryl Waters, the best mom we never had

Discovering there's a new Kurt Vile and the Violators performance on KEXP is great way to spend a lazy Sunday.
How alike, luckly a lazy but sunny sunday sparkled with Kurt's magic
They definitely have the Gold tone on this performance. Every instrument sounds dialed in.
That version of Pretty Pimpin kicks ass, guys look so laid back but the sounds are going bananas!!

dust bunnies..really on point. Goldtone blew me away. So grateful to have kexp locally on my radio
My dad introduced me to his music. It took me a while to truly start appreciating his music, but I must say, he is a phenomenal artist!
I just recently got hooked on a song "Pretty Pimpin'" I love the song and really enjoy this performance. Awesome!
I have seen this so many times, great performance & interview.
So psyched to see him in Louisville, KY next year. Could listen to Kurt Vile all day.
+xBradsrucax You lucky people in the U.S! That won't happen in this tiny island of mine! Enjoy the gig!
+Sachuda Sawmy just saw them in Montreal.

Say what you like about this type of rock n roll but I think we can all agree that they’re just a nice well spoken group of young men.
Thanks KEXP!

Well done for not stealing one album this year.
Is there a situation when you HAVE TO buy an album?
@@adamvalencik9683 Yes, yesterday and memories aren't free and neither is this music.

Hes been on record saying he's a pretty shy person. Also seemed either stoned or on some kinda upper lol, bad nerves

That Dust Bunnies track does indeed sound "man oh man great!!"

I never heard something better in a long time.
Dude, that's rock n roll.
That solo at the end of Dust Bunnies kills me every time...
I love Kurt Vile. It is fun to see that even he cant really pull off pretty pimpin live its hard to play and sing at the same time.
+Andreas Landgren yeah, not sure why the other guy isn't playing the lead licks
This album is awesome. I just discovered Kurt Vile like not even a week ago I but Love em'.

I say Thank You for that close up, beautiful view jajaja
Love these versions. A little heavier than on the record. So good.
This was a pleasure. My ears are happy.
Dust Bunnies was my favorite song l heard last year
This + Comfy Couch + Weed = Heaven
Never heard them before!! But definetly im increasing my playlist with his music!!
wonderful performance. thanks again kexp
hoooooly! i just discovered them! i'm in love
Sold as soon as the chorus kicked in for Dust Bunnies
Kurt is so talented live. I definitely prefer this to the studio versions. The studio versions don’t have the same charm because they’re so produced
Love how the guy pianist/keyboarder has those cookies lined up!
Pretty Pimpin brings tears to my eyes to this day.
This is so good! Love the sound and Kurt's voice.
This is great! I love this combination of musicians and the new stuff.

Sometimes I talk too much but I gotta get it out
But I don't wanna talk, I only wanna listen
My baby talks soft, my ears are always ringing now
Humming a sad song when I'm alone
But you gotta be alone to figure things out sometimes
Be alone, when even in a crowd of friends and not so
Sometimes of whom you just can't distinguish but
Thank god for the former, yeah
Some bow down a hundred times a day or more
To find a way, to get back down to the temple one day
Find the temple, to bask in the glory of
Roll around on a floor of furry carpet then
Sleep soundly for the first time in forever and
Breathing deep inside
There's a desert down below the earth's core
A hidden staircase in the house that you reside in
A little something from the cupboard over there
A little medicine, it's a medication situation
Some bow down a hundred times a day or more
To find a way, to get back down to the temple one day
Find the temple, to bask in the glory of
Roll around on a floor of furry carpet then
Sleep soundly for the first time in forever and
Breathing deep inside
They know who listens to their music and it shows, if you know you know.
I love this album. Pretty Pimpin sounds a lot like "Boom,Like That" -Mark Knopfler. Not that I'm complaining. This is the best rock LP to come out in a long time.

Good old fashioned rock and roll baby

I was amazed at the groups sound. Kudos...
what a beautiful show, thanks!
I love his Jaguars.
Just like Kurt Cobain. Kurt is just like Kurt.
Except that Kurt can actually play guitar
Well, Cobain could actually play before the nevermind era
