Same. I’ve been into knives for a long time, so I already know what i prefer in terms of features, steels, grinds, geometry, etc ; and I do my own research when looking to get a new knife, so I don’t really need their input. Finding all that for myself is part of the enjoyment for me. I don’t even baton my knives, as I always have a saw and axe with me. I mainly watch their videos because I enjoy the lighthearted mood of their content, and their close friendship reminds me of how me and my two younger brothers are when we get together; not in terms of behavior, but in terms of closeness, and it just puts me in a better mood to watch. Also, I don’t really know many people personally who share my passion and love for fixed blade knives, but these two crazy Dutchmen definitely understand.
Well put. I always watch these videos and wish I was there with them, goofing around and playing with these tools that I enjoy. Their passion and silliness matches my own.
The fact that your vg10 performed better after time is a significant sign that fällkniven overheated the edge a little but durung the sharpening process which is - sadly - kind of normal due to production speed. While sharpening you take away material and eventually will have ground away all the overheated material. That is why it has better edge retention now

It instantly takes me to good memories, thinking about the times I’ve done the same thing with my bros.. laughing like idiots, usually at shit most people wouldn’t even know why it’s funny. NL series is so beautiful. NL1 Tor was one of the first "premium" knives I owned. (My wife knew I was drooling over it, and bought it for my birthday over 14 years ago!) Bought the NL1 shortly after. I also like to darken the leather! I've since started making my own knives rather than buy them, but I'll probably always keep my NL's !
I have a problem with my Idun... I used to buy a few knives over the years and when I saw the Idun, I too honestly thought it looked like the most beautifully aesthetic knives I had ever seen, but way beyond my budget. However, I saved for several years and eventually purchased one! I do bushcrafting with it, skin animals with it , even odd cutting jobs with it, and now, I simply look at other knives as if they are simply second best. Fallkniven has killed my desire to collect knives! I have the best looking and best functioning knife that I have ever used, so why purchase any other?
Well done lads you cracked em in the end! As far as I’m concerned they only made this in cos because of you two lunatics. So a big thank you very kindly for that lads. The best part of this episode was seeing how rubber minded you two went lol just like kids on Christmas morning and you wanted a bike and there in front of the tree is a mess of wrapping paper and a handlebar sticking out lol. Hi guys, congratulations with your channel and this super knive! My son follows your channel for years now! He made already a lot of knives himself, and adjusted the NL5 for me! For me the NL5 is the best knive, I have one myself. But there was one downside of this knive for me and that was the size of the leather handle, it was too small. I had used the NL5 for more than 8 years with the leather handle because I did not dare to change it, until, I did!! I removed the leather handle and made a wooden handle instead. We were very happy to see that you have used our content in your movie about the full tang!! 😃 That is why we made this movie ourselfs in the first place: because nobody has ever removed the leather handle. We will make another video about the handle because it is still a bit bulky, but thanks for showing some shots of our video!! Good luck and well done guys!
There’s nothing in nl5 that in any shape or form is better than in hundreds of other knives that surpass it in every category. You are lying to yourself! 😂
One thing that's possible with edge performance, is that knives that are factory sharpened on a belt grinder, the edge can sustain some amount of heat damage. After multiple hand sharpenings on your wet stone, that damage is theoretically sharpened out. Which would explain improved performance.
Definitely, I noticed a huge difference in my vg10 spyderco after about 4 or 5 sharpenings… it’s honestly a huge problem with knife reviews. Most reviewers barely even sharpen their knives once, let alone the time it takes to get through the “bad steel” from the factory. It’s probably why steels like k390 get such better factory edge retention, because those types of steel don’t loose their heat treat from high temps.
