Wanted to say great work on the ones you've done so far- however in the future I would recommend getting in contact with actual descendants of the civilizations you are making the jingle for. I have heard a number of complaints from various SE Asian players that the jingle for their civilization sounds deeply inauthentic to traditional music from their culture. I think it's best approach for all aspects of the game to be respectful through accurate representation where it doesn't affect gameplay. Just a note that will hopefully make your future work even more fantastic- I have deeply enjoyed what you contributed to the game and look forward to whats to come.

Mad props from one professional musician to another. He carried a heavy weight on his shoulders having had to re-do the music and write some of it from scratch. Vitalis had to both capture the nostalgia of the past game and also bring some authentic essence of the many cultures the civs represent. I found the story about people missing the cut "flamenco" snippet funny, because as SOTL pointed out, it was an 18th century style. A lot of the western European music vignettes are technically more based on early renaissance than medieval. These things all exist on a continuum, though. I found his encounter with the easterly civs and how the "styles" vary from region to region interesting. I think if I were in his position I would do my best to emulate the music of the courts instead of the populous--if possible. Though, a big thing we take for granted as westerners is our written music history. If a culture undergoes revolution, oftentimes the people whose rolls were to play this music disappear, along with their rote tradition. Lots of western universities have been going around the world with recorders trying to pick up the sounds of far off places and preserve them. And some places, like China, are trying to rediscover their old music because it was outlawed.
All in all, great interview. It was the music and the "reconstructed" languages that the units say that were a catalyst to my wanting to learn about these things into my adulthood. Thank you for seeking out this interview with the venerable Vitalis!

The music in this game is amazing.
Once I heard one of the lengthened themes like the Britons' and found the Immersive option, I slapped that thing on so hard and never looked back.
I play a lot of Random Map Random Civ, so every new game is a new musical treat.
It's amazing how Vitalis worked with so little and how much he was able to work into the final themes.

Love your interviews with devs/artists spirit. I particularly liked this one because I think the music updates on DE are underappreciated. It's impressive how much variety and personality Vitalis was able to give to all the civ themes.

Damn I soooo love this guy's wor, and his voice too! I'm only sad that he decided to remove the Spanish theme, was the best theme hands down in the original. When i saw DE released, I ran home from college to hear the full theme, was disappointed, but he kinda made it up with the rest. Still would have loved a full version for that theme.

I agree with him, the spanish and huns are quite different from their originals in ways you could argue are bad. One was too iconic to properly work with and the other didn't have the same theme anymore.
But in their defence. The huns music shouldn't be about how the rest of the world sees them, if anything the new hun theme is leagues better than the original in portraying the huns. It's hun music.
The spanish one is good in its own right, you have to compare it to the rest of the 1 minute songs. It speaks of spain, it might not be as iconic anymore, but is certainly is more consistent.

Love the stuff he's done, I think a lot of the extended themes capture the essence of the original stings. There are some that feel a bit lacking; I think the Huns theme had a lot of potential to do something perhaps a bit more ambient and menacing as the original seems to portray, and disregarding the flamenco style for the Spanish theme seems like a bit of a mistake, as you can hear flamenco-style strumming in the sting; the remake could have easily gone in that direction.
But overall, a lot of these themes are really nice to listen to. As a musician myself, I would be curious to know what sound libraries he was using.

5:41 *You're SHITTING ME that he played those one a piano.* OH MY GOD, I always thought he hired an actual guitarist to play that!! 8O
6:21 _Okay, now this is going beyond legend._ What a creative lad! I thought for sure those were actual drums!
6:53 *THAT... **_is eletronic?_** ... FOH REAL?* -_- >sits in the corner in disbelief<
Btw, just putting this out, I'm a HUGE fan of the new Hun theme. ^_^
Also, yeah, with the Turks theme it's kind of a shame that he had to compose based on the already existing tune, but I personally believe it might've worked out better to go with the approach he went for the Spanish. I miss the iconic "HEEEYALAHEEEY" too, but the song he composed... it just felt _so right,_ y'know! I really loved it. And given how well he handled the Tatars and Cumans theme (SPECIALLY the Cumans'), I'm very confident he could've pulled some really iconic turkic tunes for the Turks civ.

And somehow surprisingly still intimidating. Although it has a minor festive theme to it, it also has somewhat of a "stoic, warrior steppe nomad" air to it. I think it's an improvement, all the old theme had going for it was a horror show vibe. It was nice, but to be perfectly honest, it felt kinda silly. The Huns were monsters from the perspective of their foes, but I'm sure that wasn't the whole of their people at all, so I very much appreciate the liberty Vitalis took with their song.
