    So, I just leave the glue stick inside and dump it in a dark shelf and wait till the next use? Seems like a great idea to me. 😂😂

      @@MakerHighSchool Hi I just wanted to ask I have a cheap gun I bought from a Pound Sttore in the UK, I noticed the trigger doesn't work half way through the stick( unless push through wirh a thin object)is that common or just down to it being a dollar store item. Thanks

      @@chrissy212e Hey there! Yeah, most dollar store/pound shop glue guns are like that.
      IF you’re an adult, you can unplug and unscrew the gun to take a look inside (I have another video about the inside of a glue gun you can watch first). It sounds like it's the spring that might be causing the problem. You can try and replace it with a new one. They're very similar to the spring in the old style click pens, so if you have one around, you can try that. Otherwise, I'd donate it and get a slightly more expensive glue gun. Hope that helps! 👍

    Thank you . I lost my instructions and nearly followed the advise of another guy taking it out with scissors . It makes sense to not takin it out and push the next one as it will melt with the remaining of the first one. Huge like to you. It was very helpful.

    I pulled out me glue stick whilst it was hot on my old glue gun. Worked the first few times, then the next time I pulled it out the half molten glue stick cooled in the barrel “upstream” from the heating element and I ended up with a fused solidified glue stick stuck in the barrel. Don’t do it! My 2 cents of advice (for my needs) … I need to remove the glue stick so it fits back in the box I keep it in… so I just cut off the overhanging stick (which I can also use next time so no waste)

  • @hvpatil

    @MakerHigh, after going through other videos and also applying my LOGIC, I FEEL YOU ARE RIGHT. If one pulls out glue sticks regularly the glue gun may fail eventually. Push a new kind of glue stick and wait till the old kind comes out is a Great Idea. Also maintain a separate glue gun for each kind of glue stick is a good idea too but expensive. What if I put a wooden pencil and push the entire old glue out when it is hot? Please reply. Thanks in advance.

    • @MakerHighSchool
      @MakerHighSchool  4 роки тому

      Thanks for the kudos. The "pencil trick" or the "chopstick trick" isn't something I would reccomend since its putting the opposite stress on the glue gun (vs pulling it out).
      If you do decide to do it, use an unshaperened pencil and go gently. Make sure there are no metal bits to hit the walls of the heating element. Ideally, you'd heat up the gun, unplug it and push, repeating as necessary so you don't have a foreign object in it while its plugged in.

    I have a 30+ year old Sears Craftsman glue gun, which I'm sure was made by someone else. B&D made a lot of their stuff. It's worked fine over the years, but the trigger has been "fading" in that I sometimes have to push glue with another stick thru it. And yes, I've removed glue sticks by pulling them out from the back. There are no parts available for mine, but it still heats and melts glue, so it's a manual. Seems easy enough to design a glue gun with a release that allows one to remove glue sticks without damaging the gun. Until then, buy a glue gun for each type of glue you use. I did buy a new one, on sale, with good reviews. Let the collecting begin.

    • @MakerHighSchool
      @MakerHighSchool  2 роки тому

      Craftsman products used to be sooooooo good! I can get why you're hanging onto it. (I literally worked at a sears in the 90s to build my tool collection, then a few years later, all of them stolen by a roommate.)
      I agree that someone should make a manual version. But, then, they won't sell as many glue guns. 🙄
      Good luck with your new one!

    • @MakerHighSchool
      @MakerHighSchool  5 років тому +1

      It depends on the kind of plastic, honestly. If its ABS or PLA, you should be okay. I'd make sure you go with low temp glue and do a patch test someplace you wont see it to make sure you not only can remove it, but that the heat from the glue wont melt the plastic. Best of luck!

    Ok so, I got a new full-size glue gun (Elmer's Craft Bond Dual Temp). All I had at home were mini multi-temperature glue sticks and, yes, without reading the directions first I thought I could use them in the gun. I advanced 2 sticks. Only a very tiny amount of glue will come out of the nozzle. I noticed the melted glue started to back up where the glue stick goes into the gun. I've been letting the glue gun heat up for about 15 minutes with the idea that the melted glue would just leak out the nozzle because that's what my old mini would do. That's just not happening. Have I just ruined my new glue gun? Thanks

    • @MakerHighSchool
      @MakerHighSchool  5 років тому

      If this is the one I'm thinking of (pink silicone over the tip) it has a tendency for the tip to clog even when you're using the regular sticks.
      The glue might have leaked into the housing (I have another video showing the inside of a glue gun if you're wondering what I'm talking about.
      Honestly, my best advice is try to return it, if you can. Otherwise (if you're an adult) unplug it, and try holding a hot curling iron or hair straightener to the tip. It should help the glue come out at a higher temp, but its tricky because you dont want it so high you melt the housing or burn out the heating element.
      You could also try opening it up (again if you are an adult and make sure its unolugged) to see if there's an internal problem. Honestly, just returning it for a different model is the easiest and safest way to go. 👍

    I just got my hot glue gun from my parents garage after about 6 years. I know they've used it in my absence. Now I'm trying to use but it looks like there's an old stick of glue beyond my reach. They advance trigger works but its not advancing the old stick. I just tried a wooden chop stick after letting gun warm up some, to no avail as of yet. I'm still hoping if I leave gun on long enough that it'll eventually warm up glue stick far enough up to release.
    Do you think I'm being over optimistic?

    • @MakerHighSchool
      @MakerHighSchool  6 років тому

      Better to err on the side of keeping it plugged in. If you want to check to off if your nozzle is heating up, you can wait until you thing it should be hot enough and then unplug it and press the tip against a damp (not wet) washcloth. If it sizzles, you know it's heating up. If it doesn't, gingerly touch the washcloth after you move it away. If it's warm, there might be glue inside of your glue gun.

      Your heating element might be broken, so you may have to get a new one. You can try heating up a curling iron and pressing it against the metal tip. That should help the glue inside melt if there's a chance it can work again.

    • @sajimolsuresh3885
      @sajimolsuresh3885 5 років тому

      So how would that work

    • @MakerHighSchool
      @MakerHighSchool  5 років тому

      If the glue stick is the wrong kind for the gun, you heat the metal to temps higher than they would normally reach. That should help the glue that's stuck leak out, so you can try using a different glue stick once its cleared. If it doesn't work, you need to buy a new one.

      If you still have it, you can try to "drain" the glue gun by using a curling iron or flat iron, but BE CAREFUL! You can apply it to the metal tip when it's unplugged to get the glue heated up and drip out. I have another video called why wont my glue stick melt that explains the different kinds of glue sticks. You'll probably want one with more wax.

      If there's glue inside the actual gun (not just where it's supposed to go), it's not safe to use. You should get a new one. Make sure you don't lay the new one on it's side or let it fall aver until it's unplugged or completely cooled. That's the most common reason that happens.

      Don't. Seriously. You'll probably break the glue gun, and I don't want you to risk getting hurt.

    HELP ME I HAVE A SHARPIE STUCK INSIDE OF MY GRANDMAS GLUE GUN

      I'm sorry to say that it's not going to happen. The metal inside of the gun is one piece, so you cant take it apart. You could get hurt if you try. Just make sure you unplug it. You're going to have to toss it.

      @@MakerHighSchool yes plz help me what to do😢

    • @MakerHighSchool
      @MakerHighSchool  5 років тому

      @@golokbasumutary6989 Make sure the glue gun is unplugged. Being very VERY careful, you can take a curling iron or flat iron and press it against the metal tip of the glue gun where the glue comes out. It should be hot enough to melt any kind of blockage there, and help it to leak out.
      If that doesn't help, the blockage is in the plastic part of the gun, it isn't safe to use, and you should get a new one.
