    Finally, someone who explains it, all business, getting to the point; This video beautifully summed it up without all the hotdogging, grandstanding, and humble bragging through macro footage, desk setups ,and filler I see in other channels. Thank you so much for this film. I’ve been trying to decide on a monitor for WFH that isn’t so big it would take over the room. You always should aim for the smallest possible inches on same resolution. So a 24inch monitor on 1440p is better looking compared to 1440p 27inch one due to more fine pitch

      @HOJogaBonito 3 роки тому +1

      Wait really?

    • @Angel7black
      @Angel7black 3 роки тому +1

      @THE_SAM09 you wont notice them. Yeah the image will technically be better but you wont see it. The optimal resolution for 24 inches is 1080p, 27 is 1440. Theres only so much your eyes can really see, its why having a 4K phone screen would make zero sense. A 24 inch 1440p screen is just a waste of money

    • @DH-mf6rd
      @DH-mf6rd 3 роки тому +1

      This isn't true. If it was, why wouldn't you use a 4k phone as a monitor, like an Xperia 1?
      You want to find the best compromise between sharpness and physical size for your vision and sitting distance. A high res and smaller screen will require you to sit closer to read text. If you use scaling, you lose working "resolution real-estate" for productivity. A high res and larger screen can be read further away, keep your full native resolution for productivity, but may not be as sharp up close.
      Personally, I'm considering a 4k 43in monitor, even though its too big when sitting up close. There's about a 70º horizontal FOV if sitting at a typical distance away from it, which would be the equivalent of my eyes being about 8 inches away from my 13in macbook display. I think a 38in 4k display would be ideal. It becomes retina (300ppi) at a 30in viewing distance with a 57º FOV.

    • @anna45333
      @anna45333 3 роки тому +7

      @@Angel7black Well not for me. On my eyes a 24inch on 1080p looks bad. I think the least inch you can be ok with 1080p is 22inch and lower. On 24inch you need 1440p. Its huge difference at least for me. Now not many screens 24inch 1440p in market to start with... Most 1440p on the market start from 27inch. Its still ok but perhaps because i am perhaps gone crazy nowdays about it, pixelmad, i would prefer 24inch 1440p if i could find one. And i did. It was a 24inch Dell monitor. The only brand that had that. I really dont see the point of so huge screens. I think is too much. I could get 27inch with same money or even 32inch but i didn't. I just dont like ot have so big screen in front of me. Its overwhelming. It was fortunate i could find this Dell 24inch 1440p. I would like to get to 4k but i cant cause ithen i would need like double 3090 video cards and they cost a fortune. And imagine, it all started with the ipad. I had the inspiration on 2018 to get an ipad2017 and it changed my whole pespective. It was an still is amazing to watch streams and videon on that ipad screen 9,7inch, but with the analysis it has its practicaly even slightly better than 4k!! (360,000pixels per inch 9,7inch ipad has!) when the smallest 4k monitor can give up to 309,000) And that ipad screen was "the ambassador" to get me to buy a 1440p monitor. Because after watching videos on my ipad getting back to my ordinary 24inch 1080p started to feel unbearable. So thats how i got to 1440p.

    • @anna45333
      @anna45333 3 роки тому

      @@DH-mf6rd Lets do the maths then. Multiply the analysis and divide by the inches to see how many "pixels per inch" you ll be getting. So for example lets do for 4k 3840 × 2160= 8,294,400 total pixels. These whole sum will apply to 43inches you say. So we divide 8,294,400 with 43 = 192,893pixels per inch. Now lets do the same with a 1440p 24inch screen. So 2560x1440=3,686,400total pixels to apply to 24 equals to 153,500 . There is a difference but its like only 25% better. Imagine if you d get 4k screen with just 27inch (cause i doupt there are smaller to get) we get the 8,294,400 total pixels and divide by 27 and we get 307200 !!! So with 4k and 43 inch you will enjoy a larger screen ofc (especialy if you like to sit far from your screen) but you get only almost HALF of pixels per inch compared to get a 27inch 4k. So to summarize. My humble 1440p 24inch monitor gives 153,500 pixels per inch. The 4k 43 inch you want to get gives 192,893 (better but not by far) But if you d go for a 27inch 4k you d be getting 307,200 pixels per inch. (double than my humble 24inch 1440p) While with your 43inch 4k you ll be getting only a 25% improvment. Well its up to you. Has to do also on where you planning to place that screen. I have the screen on my desk so i don't want it to be very big. But if someone wants the most pixels per inch he should try to go for like 4k with the SMALLEST screen possible. And as for watching videos on iphone, well then of course the screen is too small but on my 9,7inch ipad 2017 its as if my sight gets better! As if the images have much more info. I see more full more pleasing more detailed images on my ipad 9,7inches (it gives practicaly 4k quality cause the analysis of the ipad2017 is 2160x1620 = 3499200 total pixels dividel by 9,7inch (lets divide by 10 for easier) its 349,920 pixels per inch so its 4k quality of image!!! So on my ipad 2017 i tasted the 4k quality of image, so my eyes got "spoiled" by that and now i can no longer watch anything lower than at leat 150,000 pixels per inch (thats my 24inch 1440p)

    i think 4k is very onverrated for gaming atm, 27" and wqhd is totally enough, i wait untile the 4k`s are cheaper and even with a 3080 in my computer i dont really want to play at 4k, because i need some kind of upsampling technic anyway, so native 1440p looks better than a 4k screen running on 1440p ingame resolution...

    • @94SexyStang

      4k is a Waste for gaming..........just get 144hz or better Refresh....also Native resolution matters, don't buy a 40" monitor if your computer isn't equipped with a Higher end graphics card that can't handle it.

    What I have learnt is most important in terms of computer monitors/displays for office use are these points:
    1. Move up your diplay to the correct position (your eyes should be on the upper third) - Get a VESA-arm for your display so you can move the display freely with or put your monitor on top of a nice monitor stand (I built an IKEA hack monitor stand).
    2. Color accuracy - if you are using both a PC and a Mac you want as good color accuracy as possible from the start. Try to avoid getting getting a gamer display since the colors are really bad and the menu system is terrible.
    3. Try to find a display with as high PPI as possible. Calculate your PPI on your current display and find something you won't be disappointed by. If you are used to a Macbook Pro 13" display (227 PPI), you won't find anything on similar levels of clarity, even with a 27" 4K display. 1080p on my 23,5" display (94 PPI) is NOT good since the text is very grainy and my eyes get tired. 27" 1440p (109 PPI) is not that much better. 27" 4K (163 PPI) is better but still far from 227 PPI on a retina 13" display.
    4. Consider not following the trend of 16 : 9 format by instead getting an 16 : 10 or 3 : 2 screen which will get you more useful vertical space. Or you can flip your display vertically easily with a VESA arm or with the monitor stand if it has that support.

      @@vanshkoshti3126 Yes it is the standard. And would work, but I don't like reading and taking notes on a large screen, not even 24". 13", 14", 15" laptop is good for studiying and taking notes
      I bought a second-hand DELL 1440p 24" monitor and it's very sharp with high PPI but it's probably broken because it's losing connection all the time. The seller didn't tell me anything about that, but it was cheap anyway. So I instead I continue using my old second-hand macbook pro RETINA 13" 2012 which has one of the highest PPI you can get probably. I would say a second-hand MBP in good condition can be very affordable and last long if you learn how to change battery on it (it's very difficult on the thin Retina models). However, text always does not look good on Macs since they use some crazy tech that can make text in PDF's and elsewhere unsharp/fuzzy on some words only (it's a very strange bug). MS Windows use a totally different text tech which in other hand can look a bit too sharp.
      External non-Apple monitors however, doesn't really work well with Macs I have come to understand. 1440p looks smaller but you can't zoom/scale the desktop windows on Mac that well. In MS Windows you can zoom/scale it easier I think. Apple probably hides a lot of their necessary drivers/knowledge from other display/monitor manufacturers, so you end up with this problem where many DELL monitors seems to lose connection often, and the scaling "just works" if it's an Apple Cinema Display I heard. It's a shame Apple work like that. So I wish I could change to MS Windows one day. But I really love MBP, the touchpad and keyboard on 2009, 2012 and probably the current 2022, 2023 M1, M2 MBP are the best. Some of the thin MBP (2017 maybe?) had inferior superthinn keyboards. So you got to read up a lot before you buy something second-hand.

    This is a good explanation. I would say buying a high refresh monitor rate is important for more than just gaming, though gaming is the biggest reason to buy a high refresh rate monitor. Just dragging your mouse across the screen or dragging a window around at 144 Hz looks so much smoother at 144 Hz than at 60 Hz. Scrolling also looks really sluggish at 60 Hz. I would say 27 inches/1440p/144 Hz is the sweet spot for most applications and for value. One thing you forgot to mention was pixel response times. That is really important for gaming, scrolling, and watching whatever content is available at high framerates.
    Right now I have a 27 inch/1080p/144 Hz monitor and I am looking to buy a 1440p monitor high refresh rate monitor at 27-32 inches. What are your best recommendations?

    • @thevelfy
      @thevelfy 3 роки тому +2

      I think if you're using 1440p, 27" at 144Hz is superb. But of course, you need a high end graphic card for that. If you use Nvidia like me, I'd say don't go lower than 1070. And yes I can understand why you wanna move from 27 1080p to 27 1440p. After watching this vid, I'm sure I wouldn't go higher than 24inch for 1080p. The graphic will look crap in slow mode games like AC, LoL, etc.

    • @darknightmike10yearsago
      @darknightmike10yearsago 3 роки тому +4

      @@thevelfy That is true. I wish I had my monitor was 24 inches instead of 27 inches, because of 1080p making it look a bit blurry up close, and text looking big, but I could not pass up this killer deal I got at Costco on sale for $180. It is an LG Ultragear IPS panel with Free-sync/G-sync, and the stand has height adjustment, tilt, and 90-degree pivot to the right to use the monitor in portrait mode.
