    LOVE having this trio back together. Really is the best Cubs commentary available, made even better with Brett joining.

    The only thing that will get ownerships attention is if the stands stop being packed every day. A sizeable drop in attendance might work.
    But I have a feeling they would just blame the fans anyways, and cut salary even more

    Very coincidental that the break even point is always at the CBT

    Ricketts is an embarrassment of an owner now.

    I’m nowhere close to upset that they can’t sign Bregman. Happy they won’t be.

    I feel on the same page with the owner and Jed. You go for the best guys, like Soto (checked in but of course not at a price that outrageous ) Ohtani (they are one of the finalist) Tanner (66 for 4 is already over my prediction) . But not repeat mistakes to go for the 2nd tier like Heris last year! So you go for more 3rd tier to gamble a 30-50% chance to win. Even with Tanner it is still a 60% chance he will be as good as he was last year!!

    Right now the key is to finish your project, not being dragged into a bad investment signing by people has no long term view and always want to win which is not realistic. Let the young guys play and build a team foundation with them, and with Tucker, Swanson. Then add key pieces additionally once the team is ready, I predict will be 26-27 around time frame. So 2027 is when I will be excited to see them go for it. Anything good happens this year and next will be surprises. But I do predict they will be in playoffs .

      He literally said he wants the fans to appreciate that they bought up real estate in the area where others were happily owning and developing those properties prior to them getting strong-armed into selling. They bought the properties, because they decided it would be good investment for their other venture Hickory Street Capital. The money that HSC generates does not go into the Cubs, but he wants to play off the ignorance of others into thinking the lack of spending on the Cubs is a result of some kind of community investment initiative. He isn't smart enough or slick enough to pull it off.

    Cubs operate like a small market now. Green Bay Cubs. Ricketts’ comments about breaking even is a complete joke. Another mediocre 83-win team again.

    Here is the thing, Sahadev and Patrick try to bend over backwards to defend Ricketts by saying the Cubs can't possibly be asked to spend to the level of the Dodgers but "should" be around the Phillies, Rangers, Astros, and Giants. According to Forbes, the Dodgers brought in $549 million. The Cubs brought in $506 million. $43 million is quite the difference. Now, compare the Cubs $506 million to the Phillies ($458 million for a $48 million difference), Astros ($445 million for a $61 million difference), Giants ($443 million for a $63 million difference), and Rangers ($425 million for an $81 million difference). Even when you try to bend over backwards, the math doesn't add up. They charge prices like the Yankees and Dodgers. If Marquee was such a bad investment, then why is Crane Kenney still around? They don't spend to their means because they don't want to. It is completely fair for fans to take offense to being charged top of the market prices that create top of the market revenues for ownership to go full Bob Castellini on his fan base.

      Why Cubs have to spend every year like the recent years of Padres Phillies Astros ??? Those teams winning window is now, as for Cubs they just started rebuilding 2022. It is a BAD thing to exhaust your resources at your low point!
      This is ridiculous to ask Cubs to spend as those teams in a particular year! If the team has top 10 superstars and top rotation ready, fine they should go all in for it! But if the whole team is on the way up but has 2,3 years away from contending, asking them to exhaust their resources is like a spy from Dodgers Yankees trying to scroll your team!!! Bad bad take!
      The Cubs were over luxury tax three times in last 7 years! That is not cheap! That is an owner not scared of spending for the win, but NOT for any time! And it should not be!

      @@sni6941 The Cubs generate more than $500 million in revenue. The competitive balance tax threshold last year was $237 million. That is not the bar for the third highest earning team in the sport. The payroll to revenue ratio put forth by the Cubs is not on the level with other teams in the league.

    • @sni6941
      @sni6941 15 днів тому

      @@benoitwaffle5439 you can’t justify this simply.
      In 2023, the Yankees had a revenue of $679 million, which was the highest in Major League Baseball (MLB). Their payroll for the 2024 season was $309 million, which was the second highest in MLB. I can look at more years and even with Dodgers, no team spends at high ratio EVERY year! That’s my point! Some years you see the NEED to spend, some years you don’t ! Most people don’t understand it. They see something they don’t like and then go search for any reason to find their own results which 99% are not the reason.

      @@sni6941 The Yankees also paid $62.5 million in competitive balance tax, which you choose to not include in the payroll even though it is clearly known to be part of the expenses when operating at their level, a level at which their revenues justify. Also, compare the Cubs revenue to spend (of which the competitive balance tax is a part) to the Dodgers, Giants, Astros, Phillies, Cardinals, Red Sox, and even the smaller revenue teams. It is not on par, and consistently so. If the Cubs had one clear the books year where payroll, that is different from the year-to-year operations. They have the greatest resource advantage over their divisional competition of any team in baseball, and instead of exploiting it as they claimed they would when announcing the creation of Marquee have chosen to spend less and call competing for the division the best anyone can ask for because the playoffs "anything can happen" in the playoffs.
