In early 1983 I bought Dire Straits album, Love Over Gold. I loved it. Still do. And listening to Private Investigations always made me feel 10 times better than I was. Still does.
Likewise not heard this version previously. The Love Over Gold Album was a gift from my late Father in Law (very special man) to my then future wife and myself in late 1982. Still married (40 years in 2025) we still love listening to this track which we first listened to when we were 18 and 20 respectively (now 59 and 62). Superb version.
Amphitheatre of Nîmes, France built by Rome around year 100 CE... perfect for Mark and the boys 1,893 years later to regale and beguile us with beautiful and mysterious sounds. Notice the crowd really INTO the performance. You too, RLB. Peace, love and bellbottoms from Canada.
Mark Knopfler is unique. This is an absolute masterpiece. Thanks to give me the opportunity to see and ear one of best of the best moments of humanity creation. Only few, no more than a hand number of musicians made this type of sensations.
Hi babe, I’m 74 years old and was lucky enough to have seen Dire Straits in the 80s & 90s. If I could wind back the clock I would take you to one of their concerts it would stay in your memory forever.❤
Well done Rebeka, excellent choice, great success of Dire Straits! Continue to review more Dire Straits songs, even though they disbanded thirty years ago, their songs continue to be loved and listened to all over the world today!
I grew up in a "gurukula" or an ashrama boarding school kinda thing. When i came to the "modern" world and figured out how to ride a scate board and steak my mothers laudry quarters for vidoe games at jupiter and beyond - I found Dire Straits and they have always remained my favorite. Mark Knopfler is a special person - he brings us a flow through his music. We have so many blessings here for us. Devoted musicians are certainly among the chiefs of them. Thank you :)
This song is so incredibly atmospheric and the bass and percussion are like a heartbeat pulsing ❤💓❤️. You described it perfectly and I can see you living and breathing every moment of it. David from the UK X
You look stunned by this masterpiece. It was a fabulous time to grow up with this musical excellence. Such exquisite lyrics, and soporific instrumentals.
I simply love Dire Straits. Hearing Mark's guitar...is simply PLEASURE. And this concert was their peak, no doubt about it. You should react, from this concert, to "Your Latest Trick", another incredible song. Keep it up, Becks. Like always.
Dire Straits first album came out in 1978. “Sultans of Swing” put them on the charts and they were unlike any band at the time. They were their own genre basically. I believe that they are more popular now than ever. SACDS have become very popular in recent years and I wouldn’t doubt it if Dire Straits is the biggest selling artist on SACD.
It’s awesome to see the younger generations of kids getting into Dire Straits. I was a senior in high school when they released their first album in 1978. I am a music collector and connoisseur. I have all of their albums on vinyl and SACDS. Along with several thousand other bands. 😂
Merci beaucoup Rebeka ❤❤ I'm very glad you choose this song to react and seems to very appreciate. It was my first recommendation on your channel and really really happy you and communauty voted for this masterpiece. From France, thank you so much :)
Hi. Thanks for your reaction 😊. Love Mark's narration to this. Actually singing to it just wouldn't sound right. This and Calling Elvis from the same concert are just two of the many highlights. Also Once Upon A Time In The West from Alchemy is jawdropping too. Cheers Rebekka. Your channel is so good. All the best 👍🎸🎸
Some of Mark's compositions have the feel of listening to the orchestra in an operatic atmosphere......but the orchestra is Dire Straits and Mark is the composer. There is definitely mystique and drama added to the music.
This song is the reason I kept my first ever guitar, a particularly badly made Korean nylon string. I have spent years trying to straighten the bent neck and lower the action, but I spent many of my teen years trying to master this song on that guitar, and he kept making it harder to play. A song he once said of "It's a silly song. It's just Hollywood." Like Picasso, sometimes artists don't know just where and how they've moved people.
I was waiting for a long time for your reaction to this music in this concert. I love Dire Straits and also your reactions and comments. It was a real pleasure to see it. It's always so nice when we see someone feeling the same when hearing a music. :) Great work, I'm waiting for other Dire Straits musics!
This is a great performance of Private Investigations, Mark's classical guitar playing is so good. Next you need to react to Wild Theme from the same concert.
glad you got around to doing this one, I knew you would be WOWED by this performance, I remember being wowed at this song when I saw them on this tour! One of the things I think you did very well Rebekah is react to some little known versions of Dire Straights songs like So far away and Romeo and juliet that are now my favorite versions. In that vein, you should react to On Every Street from this same concert On the Night. GUARANTEED you will be so glad you did Rebekah
I think it's worth mentioning just how much the audiences at Dire Straits gigs, loved these more complex, multi-layered pieces. Yeah, pieces is the right word for this, for Telegraph Road, and others. Very few bands, especially since the time of DS, risk this kind of thing anymore. But the crowd reaction, and yours, Rebecka, prove that real musicality and musicianship, is never not appreciated.
Dear Luize, thank you for the best version, in my opinion obviously, of "Privat Investigations". Mark is and always be one of the best composers, guitar player, singer (his voice and guitar complement each other perfectly). This is truly a masterpiece. Greetings from Porto.
You have a great ear for good music and I love your subtle reactions to things some people miss. Because of this I subscribed to your channel. Keep it up as you’re very good at this. I have an unapologetic man crush on Mark Knopfler as he brings me to tears with his storytelling and more so his guitar playing. THE BEST to ever do it. He is pure genius. Dire Straits forever..
u the first to do this. react. no idea why. one of the greatest songs ever. and this is iconic version. Was there at the 1983 gig. just started work. was my 1st pay check that paid for it.
This man is mow 74... Just released a new cd Pls listen and review Watch me gone, from One Big River. The guitar has slowed a bit .. the voice sounds strained.. but both are still beautiful!
Great reaction and lovely to see a reaction to a song from ‘On the Night’. It’s an amazing gig and any song from it will delight you - but I would recommend ‘Calling Elvis’!
And when I find the reason I still can't get used to it.. I remember the first time I heard it on my Walkman... Yeah those things... Mark's playing is sublime as always.. But the soloing here is otherworldly...
I was there, twice. Once in Cardiff at the (old) National Stadium and then a week later 250 miles away at Portman Road in Ipswich. Amazing both times. I believe this is from Basel in Swizerland at the start of the tour. It was on Sky in the UK, my mate video'd it for me.
This is probably the song I recommended most for reaction channels, one of their finest performances! Certainly is one of the few where you get to see Mark playing a classical guitar. If I could back in time to any concert, I'd pick this one. I've got a fantastic Australian artist for you to check out. Matt Corby, singing his song "Brother". Make sure it's the live performance he did on a radio station here in Australia called "Like A Version". It's just him and his guitar. I'm sure you'll be impressed. And if you love it, his live performance of "Trick of the Light" with his band on the Resolution Tour is a great follow up. This guy is super talented. #subscribed
I am speechless I'm pretty much agree with everything you send we Love instrumental I didn't really listen to the lyrics . Before watching reaction videos I never really paid attention to dire straits. But yes top 3. So nice to see you Rebecca ❤.
Finally, someone doing something from Dire Straits other than the obligatory “Sultans”…… Nice reaction. Should do the entire DVD produced from this show. It’s their finest complete live performance, imho. The opening song “Calling Elvis” is brilliant. “Planet of New Orleans” for whatever reason was left out, as they played it when I saw this Tour. Also, their LP called, “On Every Street” is a must own.
I disagree. As a fan since the beginning The best Dire Straits was PRE Brothers in Arms. they went soft. and the Travelling Wilbury’s was a nadir. Like Eric Clapton post Cream or Paul McCartney after the Beatles.
hola from malaga, I've just discovered your channel and love your enthusiasm. as you seem to like queen and dire straits have a listen to another British group called "status quo" I'm sure you will like there live performances (whatever you want, and down down to name 2. 🥰🥰
superb reaction as usual, plz check out studio version of you and your friend and in the gallery from dire straits. They both to me are their best songs
I loved your reaction as you just stood by and just took in the magic of the performance. Mark Knopfler and of course Dave Gilmour and Pink Floyd both show amazing guitar and band performances the like of which we just don't have anymore. What do we have ? Bloody Taylor Swift wriggling her bits and crappy rap hip hop bollox !!
Hey Rebekah as a "proper" fan now, here is something else you might enjoy watching. Either as a reaction or privately. Just search this "In Conversation With Mark Knopfler - 19th Jan 2024 | Christie's Guitar Auction" Mark is still going strong and has produced a lot of great work since leaving Dire Straits. I plan to go an see him again when he annouces the tour dates, to support his new album.
Unfortunately there is no tour to be announced, Mark said on the previous tour that it would be his last. (Guy Fletcher also writes this in his latest studio diary, that there's no tour to look forward to)
@@tynzolav If that is true it's a great pity. Still... I have been fortunate enough to see him several times. And hopefully, even if not a tour. There may be some live shows from time to time. Fingers crossed.
Good reaction although I am not a fan of this particular version, love the song but this version doesn't quite do it for me. Glad that you are a Dire Straits fan though.

Mark Knopfler is a treasure. His art and musicianship are beyond compare. What a wonderful soul.
This is one of favourite Dire Straits songs , pure class 🌹🌹♥♥
Amphitheatre of Nîmes, France built by Rome around year 100 CE... perfect for Mark and the boys 1,893 years later to regale and beguile us with beautiful and mysterious sounds. Notice the crowd really INTO the performance. You too, RLB. Peace, love and bellbottoms from Canada.
The, “On The Night” DVD of that concert is still one of the finest ever produced. The show itself, satisfying in every way.
From the GOLDEN years of British music
This could be the sound track for any film noir movie.
That's what I always thought too.
Absolute genius, there are no words to define Mark Knopfler
Mark Knopfler is unique. This is an absolute masterpiece. Thanks to give me the opportunity to see and ear one of best of the best moments of humanity creation. Only few, no more than a hand number of musicians made this type of sensations.

This band just continues to blow me away live. Been a fan since 8-tracks. It transcends music
Why have I never heard this version before?? What a bone chilling experience!!! Such damn gorgeous music 🎶
highly recommend all of 'On the Night' every song is a masterpiece🏆
Probably because Mark never plays anything the same way twice. Many top Artist are this way .

Saw Dire Straits live in 1991 world tour. What a show. The whole stadium was vibrating from the people stomping their feet almost the whole concert.

Mr. Mark Knopfler is a genius, along with his fellow musicians.

Mark just needs an acoustic guitar and he will blow 99% of the guitarists out of the water.
Totally agree😊
Love this tune, it is so atmospheric. Makes me think about the Bladerunner movie.
Great reaction! I agree with every single words you choose to say! Thank you!
