    Hello Mr. Taylor. Always enjoy your videos, usually don’t comment, but I thought now would be a happy time. As a mobile equipment mechanic/welder I found myself needing a small buzz box for repairs. Not all repairs need 7018 burning bubble gum, and I couldn’t justify spending $$k on a suitcase welder. So I went to my local hardware store and picked up a Forney 140amp multi process welder. At first I was VERY VERY disappointed in my purchase and was reluctantly in search of a replacement, until my inner MacGyver kicked in. Case study was; the actual welding machine would out power the mig torch and get the damn thing so hot it would melt. Soo I went to my local welding supply and picked up a 250amp/25ft tweco mig torch. Removed the euro style connector from the face of the welder and modified it to accept an old style Miller mig connector. Now, I have a highly capable cheap flux core welder. I burn Lincoln .035 flux core in plates well above 3/16” for as long as I can stand the heat. Multi pass welds are key, and Keep a jar of anti spatter jell close by and lightly dip the torch every time I stop to reposition or grind. (I’ll post a video and showcase my hillbilly modified welder) The short of the long.. with a little patience, ingenuity, and practice, there’s no reason a cheapo hobby welder can’t get the job done.

    • @peetky8645
      @peetky8645 10 місяців тому

      Hi there. Sounds like you are getting the job done. Flux core E71T-11 wire is ok for up to 3 pass welds; the E71T-GS wires are for single pass welding only. Make sure you are using the correct wire if you are multi-pass welding.

    Randomness:
    I quit carrying 3/4 because 19mm is close enough!
    Ash is caustic, the opposite of acidic (makes lye when water seeps through it-Foxfire method). I need patch up my smoker.
    Like the dueling tree. Used to shoot a wheelgun in competition-that thing would be a blast. I pretty much only shoot black powder now, so any steel plate is good enough.
    HEY--did you know that cut off gas cylinder (hanging) makes a great long-range reactive target? They say they ring like crazy.
    My PW TIG325 showed up yesterday (day after Christmas). I think I'll run some 6010 with it today. Made some pretty little TIG welds last night. The fan is completely obnoxious, earplugs required.

    I personally, would like to see some more videos about how to start a welding company. I have a Hobart 140 and most of the tools i need and i can run a good bead etc. I already have a building, i would like to have some kind of fab shop setup and just fill orders but if i have to go to a jobsite im ok with that too. But, idk what makes good money in welding, or what to weld or fabricate or mass produce etc. Thanks.

    You might get crap about not using AR-500/550 and they are correct, if you are getting dimples from rounds you are setting yourself up for a round to bounce back, ( I have been hit and drew blood from a simple 22lr it happens , there are recommendations for shooting steel that should be followed, ie. minium 10/11 yards, each target must cant forward about 10° forward from the top, this allows the round to impact flatten and hit the ground, if you're plate becomes pocked up badly the round can't slide down but shoot off in a random direction. good steel targets are expensive and a consumable and still must be replaced when damaged, shooting safety depends on a flat surfaces as must as possible, an exception in using mild steel (1/4" works best) is 22LR. I have built about two dozen 22 only targets from a Texas star, dueling trees, critical shot swinging paddles (btw love your base design, you actually have something there) standard B-27 type targets in different scales ect. all show no pock damage, (my mishap I believe came from a carriage bolt head grade 2, nobody said shooting steel is not without risk) Cool thing is you can buy just the AR paddles for your tree provided they fit (might need fitting) there is a ton of steel target manufacturers with lots of information about the subject. Abrasion resistant plate is a bugger to work with, I believe most good steel targets are cold sand cut so as to not take the temper out of the edges of the targets but they still chip. all my center fire targets are AR 500 3/8 or 550 in 1/2" for the long range big caliber stuff. It's tempting to use mild steel because it is cheaper and easy to work with, but shootn steel is hazardous (wrap around eye pro a must) little chunks of copper jacket in your clothing is normal when shooting steel, but that golden bullet is out there, simple fact of life, protect everyone's peepers on the range.
    The wig was killing me had to keep looking away, my wife would make me watch Bob with her, (true love is watching Bob Ross with your wife) yall have a Merry Christmas, 🎄
