I've been there, replacing one drug with another.. Pain pills replaced alcohol and alcohol and subs replaced those replaced by heroin, etc.. I'd justify my drinking as it was more socially acceptable, legal and affordable.. Been clean 2 years and 21 days..

Slash is the reason I asked my parents for a guitar when I was in elementary school. 15 years later, I quit drinking and started picking everyday and with the help of that guitar I haven’t had a drink in over a year
That's completely not true.... I met him in 1989. They had just started working on Use Your Illusion. Metallica was working on the Black Album and Skid Row Slave to the grind. They were all hanging together in LA at this point. Literally how the tour was born with them all. I lived at his and Duff's for a few years. He was always really intelligent. And he was always on and off. He never just constantly used any substance. And that was WAAYYY before 2003.
The older, sober, more mature Slash is much easier on the ears than the young Slash. He was a red hot mess back in the day. Good job leaving it behind-
it kinda makes me feel sad when you see someone so intelligent go down that route, especially Slash who is so well spoken etc and the scary thing is you're pretty much always an addict until ur dead, which in my opinion is no way anyone should live, unless you're able not to give in to any of it
From Yale to jail. From Park Ave to park bench. Addiction does not discriminate but it does not have to be a death sentence. He is sober and he can now enjoy his incredible life.

Everybody grows up sometime. I'm proud of this guy for recognizing what's going on and having the will to right the ship. It's a strength to be admired. 👍👍🤘

You have to be a "special" guitarist to be the attraction of a band on the level or higher level then lead vocals, and as we know in todays music the band is all but unknown to alot of artists, and with this happening I believe they are missing the bus to the kids or even adults who are instrument players and who have no one to aspire to become like. I'm so glad to see Slash and what he has grown to be and always still soooo I dunno everyday person and humble while having that very cool look.

After being sober 3n half years i recently had 2 drinks bcuz i was with a girl i met and thought it would help me relax. I was surprised how i didnt like buzz at all. After so long thinkin clearly it muddied my thoughts i kinda stunned at bit of guilt i felt.

His lady entourage was dynamite, but I've never seen a person under a stronger influence of several substances and still able to function...Rock star lifestyle. Not sure I'd be able to do it. It takes a strong and resilient person to do it

I remember way back when Slash got up after a night of rocking the hell out of me and all the people who love Slash. He walked across the street and stole some Vodka for breakfast. So dam happy to see him today alive well and still rocking the hell out of me and the people who love him. This man is a true rocker and honest and smart as the day is long. I’ve now currently hit rock bottom with alcohol and drugs. Throw in crippling depression/ptsd, unemployment, and you’ve got your next statistic. I try to quit, but loneliness always wins. There’s a reason why 22 Veterans end their life every day. I’ve met Slash and Perla twice thru mutual friends. He kinda remembered my name because it’s unusual. He gets it, and he does great things for fans like myself.
Get your ass to meetings! Talk about it. Find comfort and strength in others that have turned their lives around and be reassured that it can be done. 12yrs no alcohol 2.5 no drugs. You can do it!!

Glad he got off the booze and smokes. Duff was a heavy drinker, too. Pancreatitis, etc. Their autobiographies are a good read. NB So is Tommy Lee’s. (Although I think he’s not sober.)
Cleaning up for a couple years and then going back to various substances for a couple years and then cleaning up for a couple years. It’s a vicious cycle in my opinion Slash will be getting high sometime in the future. I predict he will survive for a good long time. 👍🏻
Eventually you have to stop and accept its over and that is the biggest challenge of all!. Quitting is easy, its staying clean long term that we struggle with!.

Kat Bjelland from Babes in Toyland did the same thing where she substituted alcohol for dope to deal with withdrawal. She's in stage 4 liver failure now and she's going to die. She's only in her 50s. Bowie said he did the same thing when he quit coke and ended up trading one addiction for another.

I did a lot of drugs when I was a teenager but never got hooked to anything. However once I was able to buy booze (19 years old where I live) it took hold of me until I was 36. I somehow still managed to start a good career, wife, family. I always thought because everything hadn't fallen apart I was ok. 5 years sober and the thought of drinking makes me sick.
I remember when Slash was drunk at the awards and they cut to a commercial.

The fact that one can just quit is the opposite of a true addict.
That's what i did i replaced certain drugs with liquor.. so hard to deal with
ya. i did that too. i was a weed smoker and switched to booze a couple years ago. i'm glad to say i switched back from booze to weed
I did a lot of drugs when I was a teenager but never got hooked to anything. However once I was able to buy booze (19 years old where I live) it took hold of me until I was 36. I somehow still managed to start a good career, wife, family. I always thought because everything hadn't fallen apart I was ok. 5 years sober and the thought of drinking makes me sick.
