Done with respect for the original artist, Elvis. I’m usually against CGI, but done in the right way, like this is, it would be magnificent. Then all those with VR goggles would be able to see Elvis in 3D, at his grandest, like practically no one has seen him before. A tribute to Elvis.

Very impressive. I think this video captured that backstage tension. People today don't realize what was involved in a live tv show. Everything had to be ready to go on cue, everything in place, everybody on their mark, ready, to go, right now, with no delay, no retakes, so screw ups, no second chance, no nothing. The right commercial footage had to be cued up and ready to go, the cameras, at least four of them and possibly six had to be in place, warmed up (this was the era of vacuum tube electronics), and ready, each required 2 men to operate, a cameraman and a grip to maneuver the cable, and help move the camera, every performer ready to go when their turn came, every jot, every iota of everything ready and available on cue. And they did it, and they did with what would today be regarded as "stone age" equipment.

Seeing what happened behind the scenes paints a better picture on what it took to put it all together. The stage hands, camera men, band players. It was a team effort. Not to mention controlling and seating the audience so they wouldn't try to jump up on stage. Very interesting video. Never saw what it took to put the show together. Thanks for sharing.

This is just profound! Such a great feel of the energy backstage before the big moment. Big production, live, New York show business, not much time, Stage hands, make up, lighting, big 50's cameras, the way the set looks, the music and intro, hearing the girls screams, the band takes their place, the singers get on the stage, then the man himself walks in, a little look at the guys, a nod, a smile, a tiny bit of nervous energy, lights go on, curtain up, a quick look at the audience, an Elvis smile and away we go! A seminal moment in American culture in one min and 14 seconds. Amazing!

In Rogue One, Grand Moff Tarkin is/was based on the work of British actor Guy Henry. It didn’t become a Peter Cushing performance until post-production, and the effect was convincing because it was built around a human skeleton. No matter how good the technology becomes, there’s no way to know how a deceased actor would have chosen to play a part. Someone needs to be on set or in the special effects studio to make those decisions and actors still need to be credited for those contributions, just as Andy Serkis is deservedly praised for the motion capture work that brought life to CGI characters like Caesar and Gollum.
More to the point, studios will never rely solely on CGI performances because Peter Cushing cannot sit down for an interview on The Tonight Show. When a studio casts an actor in a movie, that person is being hired for far more than one performance. Casting is also an integral part of marketing, from teens crushing on a new heartthrob to veteran actors making the prestige rounds during awards season. Deceased actors simply cannot fill that celebrity void. They can’t sign autographs at Comic Con or share their favorite sex tips for the cover of Cosmo, and that meta-culture is far too important to ignore in the modern media climate.
