My husband and I are leaving on this cruise January 24. We are old, but in good shape. I was surprised that the passengers looked so young (under 50). Our cruise in a standard veranda cabin cost almost $25,000, plus $2,000 for travel insurance. I was surprised so many youngish people could afford that. Also, I saw lots of beer and liquor in the bar. Was there champagne or sparkling wine available? That may seem like an unimportant question, but that's the only alcohol that I can drink without getting inebriated. The video was terrific. You gave an excellent overview of what the cruise is like. Thank you.
You will have an amazing time. Yes, there is all kinds of sparkling wine and plenty if all-included options aside from wine and beer. Thanks for watching! Happy adventures!
@@InTheLoopTravel Thank you for taking the time to reply so quickly. I will let you know how it goes. We had also wanted to know what people wore around the ship, and your video showed us. I will be packing a lot differently from our usual cruise!
❤ your video. Thanks for sharing. Thoroughly enjoyed watching it. We are a senior couple and have limited mobility, thus this January we fulfilled my dream to visit the 7th continent. It certainly is a spectacular adventure!
This has always been my bucket list trip. But I fear I may have waited too long. I'm almost 70 and my knees are not good. But It has been wonderful to watch it through your eyes.
I am a travel agent and just booked a couple for this cruise, both over 70, and leave for Argentina today. I'd be happy to share their experience with you when they return.
I am 70 and my knees are no longer as agile as 5 years ago. I still dreamed of seeing the 7th continent. I settled for a Princess cruise and was not disappointed! Spectacular views. An incredible adventure. Strongly recommended.
Thank you John for making and sharing this video. It’s very thorough and fantastic. Meeting with you and Bart on this trip added so much fun for Kody and me. Also thank you for teaching us euchre game. I loved it! Hope we get to travel again❤️
were those weights in kilos or pounds in the gym? im going soon and am curious if Ill be able to keep my lifting routine while onboard, thanks this was a great video
Thanks. Love the wildlife and aspect of walking on Antarctica mainland and kayaking. Don’t think that doing the penguin plunge is something that my heart can handle. HA! The gym looks very small (it likely gets very crowded). Do they let you keep the parka (they look very expensive).
It is such a stunning and magical place for nature lovers. That plunge was cold! Lol. The gym never had more than three people so it was just fine on my sailing. Yes, you keep the parka. Thanks for watching.
Did you land on the peninsula itself? It looks like you did at the Paradise Bay. Also do they guarantee an outing/landing on the main peninsular land? It looks like lot of the landings on islands next to the main peninsula?
We did land on the peninsula. It's true most of the itinerary is on the amazing islands, but they do always plan for a landing. But that like any destination on your published itinerary is subject to weather conditions. So it wouldn't necessarily be guaranteed. Thanks for watching. Happy adventures!
I was thinking of purchasing Draminine or a Draminine patch for the motion sickness when cross the Drake. Do you start the Draminine at the beginning of cruise or when you start crossingt eh Drake? If you take the Draminine at the beginning of cruise does it have side effects like nausea, or drowsiness that affect your enjoyment of the trip?
For anti nausea meds, you should take them before you expect to feel motion. I have heard that they can definitely affect how you feel in general. Sleepy and lethargic and you're not supposed to drink alcohol. But if you know you are likely to get seasick, you would have to weigh that against the side effects of the meds. Have a wonderful cruise. It's so amazing!
Love the videos, I’m actually on Viking sky right now lol. Planning an Antarctic trip for this year. Would love to see a price breakdown of this trip along with your likes and dislikes since there are so many trips out to the arctic
Amazing! We love that ship. Took a Norway cruise on it. ua-cam.com/video/jqMe9dLbhD0/v-deo.html Thanks for watching. There are a lot of ships heading back to Antarctica this season, indeed. Atlas has brochures and prices for cabin categories available on it's website I see. Happy cruising!
Thank you for sharing this video!! Could you tell me where did you book the trip? I have requested to get a quote from the website. But I got the follow up email from the travel agent from Avoya. I am wondered if Altas does have in-house agent?
Thank you so much for watching. Yeah, you have to try to do it online but they have you go through an "expert" who handles the booking. Just make sure you aren't going to have to commit to any extra fees for an agent. Happy travels.
I am thinking of purchasing an Atlas Antartica cruise and was wondering if you purchased travel insurance when you purchased this trip - why or why not?
Travel insurance is never a bad idea, especially if you have a reason to believe you might need to cancel last minute or are worried about a medical emergency while on your trip
Thank you for this informative video! I'm planning to travel with Atlas Ocean Voyages in January. I have a quick question about dining - can you request a private table at the restaurants or do you have to share tables with other travelers? You also mentioned that they have a lunch buffet which I assume offers private tables. Thanks!
Thanks so much for watching. Yes, you can get a private table for lunches and dinners with how the restaurant is configured. Have an amazing expedition!
You definitely can take pictures with your cell phone. I've been three times, and that's how most people are doing it. Thanks for watching. Happy travels!
You did a great video covering both the ship and the activities. I am doing research for the Antarctica cruise and watched a number of videos. May I know why you decided on this ship over the others.. such as Nat Geo ships, Ponant, Quark...etc.
Thank you! Thanks for watching. I enjoy showing people exactly what to expect. I was intrigued because this is a brand new ship and so much was included. The price was better than others for a luxury all inclusive experience.
Our adventure was from Dec 10-19, same one in the video, and nobody or crew member tested positive for Covid. The one right after us was not affected by us. So we were not the reason your Jan 6 trip got canceled. But sorry to hear it is. Hope you get to go soon! Ours actually got delayed as there were Covid cases from the group of guests/crew members before us.
LOOKS LIKE FUN
It was incredible! Thanks for watching. Happy travels!
You're so lucky to walk around outside while crossing Drake Passage.
We had a fairly calm crossing, yes. Thanks for watching. Happy travels.
Great video. thanks for showing us around the ship and your expeditions.
Thanks so much for watching. Happy travels!

Awww. Thanks so much for watching. Happy cruising.
Wow! Looks like you really lucked out on the Drake's Passage!
Yes! It was pretty darn smooth. Both ways, actually! Thanks for watching. Happy cruising.

Yes! Let's stay in touch. You two are awesome. You made the whole trip a blast.
WONDERFUL Video journey. Are you using a gimbal? I love all the low water shots.
Thanks so much. I used a gimbal for some of the ship stuff but a GoPro and my phone off the ship.
Well done John. A month later it brings some of our fun adventures back to life!
Fantastic! Good to hear. Cheers.
This video make me think about the Titanic sinking from hitting a iceberg, but other than that it look like he had a amazing experience.
Thank you for watching?
Were you able to actually go onto the peninsula or just the islands?
We had a landing on the peninsula as well. Thanks for watching.

I'm not sure I remember. But I think kilos. The ship was built and outfitted in Europe so that would make sense.
Thanks. Love the wildlife and aspect of walking on Antarctica mainland and kayaking. Don’t think that doing the penguin plunge is something that my heart can handle. HA! The gym looks very small (it likely gets very crowded). Do they let you keep the parka (they look very expensive).

I saw that they have a Paddling and Sea Kayaking. What is the difference? Can I do the sea kayaking if I have never kayaked before?
Hi. I'm not sure what the difference might be. They give good instructions so even beginners would be able to participate.

Did you do the sea kayaking? If yes, was it worth it. If no, why not? I have never sea kayaked before and did not know if it was for beginners.
I didn't go on this trip with Atlas. I went when I cruised to Antarctica with Albatros and it was so much fun. Expensive for sure but worth it to me.

Two

What trip did you sail on? I was on the solar eclipse cruise.
This was a sailing fairly early on as the ship was brand new. In December 2021.

Yes, we saw a few. At distance. Thanks for watching. Happy travels!
Which Month ?
Hi. This was in November. Thanks for watching.
Not a mask to be found. No wonder our January 6 cruise was cancelled due to Covid onboard. :(
Yes, the variant spreads to all, whether masked or not or vaxxed or not, it seems. Sorry yours was cancelled. Hope you get there soon!

I was on the cruise and both passengers and crew were very compliant, and wore masks when not eating or drinking.
I saw passengers wearing masks whenever they were inside.
