Job requirements for GCN presenters: 1. Must be a cycling enthusiast (riding and/or watching) 2. Must be willing to travel 3. Being able to hold a discussion while riding in Zone 5+ is considered an asset. Kudos to Si and Ollie for being able to talk while doing those climbs.
I have been enthralled with "English Racers" since i was a child. Got my first one when I was about 13. Now at 68 I thought this quite the history lesson.
Still riding a few lovely steel bikes with Campagnolo Nuovo and Super Record parts. Fast enough for riding with my friends, and no worries about batteries running out of charge. I do have a 42 x 24 low gear to get me up the hills in style, though! (mostly 6% or less)
The pantani bit nearly put a tear to my eye. Yes, drug enhanced, but also, a man fastest up a mountain on his own power. On a bike pre-electric and carbon. Never to be repeated, never to be matched. Legend.
Thank you so much for including my favorite in this compilation: Ollie on the Canning-special, exclaiming that after flipping the wheel his gearing feels 'positively MAGICAL!!' It's almost as lovely listening to his griping as it was watching Lasty's pain face.
Still love my Cervelo SLC-SL. A bit like triggers broom, all that remains is the frame and seat post. Everything else upgraded over the years. Shimano Ultegra Di2 now with Zipp 404 and Hambini racing BB.
I love vintage road bikes, especially the team replicas. And I miss what I consider to be the golden age of bike racing. There was something cool about the actual builder of the bike putting their name on the downtube. It was cool to try figure out which pro bikes were actually built by person whose name was on the downtube. For example, several pros who raced Raliegh bikes (Connie Carpenter, Andy Hampsten, Laurent Fignon) said their frames were built by someone else (i.e. Marinoni, Cyfac). And it was cool hearing about out Hampsten's Serotta was actually built by John Slawta or how Lance's world championship Merckx was built by Litespeed. And we all have heard about how Pegoretti built several pro bikes (including Indurain's) and how Mondonico built others (e.g. Chiappucci's Carrera) but the bike was painted with the sponosr's name on the down tube. Now the only thing I'm wondering is whether a current pro's bike is a pro-only layup or if you can buy that exact bike.
Simon is winging about the 42/21 going uphill. I converted my Bianchi B.u.S.s single speed MTB to a 53/18 single speed road bike. I haven’t encountered a hill that I haven’t been able to climb yet and have covered over 20,000 kilometers.
From the dura ace part. I can see elons neural link melding with the zwift cog and click melding with some sort of cvt auto type tech to make cycling really interesting
That Cervelo looks so cool compared to that modern Canyon which looks like an MTB with drop handlebars. Road bikes used to look so pure and simple and fast.
ahhh reminds me of the good ol days when you had to listen to make sure your chain wasn't rubbing on the front derailleur. also reminds me of those goofy Biopace Shimanos haha.
The cervelo I remember back in 2009 where I'm from there was a magazine that listed technological marvel. I remember the s3 was on it. I was only 9 at the time
Still prefer the older Reynolds frames with chromed lugs and dropouts. And... the knurled Campag Record rear mech. But the downtube-mounted levers ... not so much !
I love the guys and the content is THE BEST! But the beep, beep, beep, beeeeeeeeep mouth noises have gotta go! LOL! Its time for a ready, set, go or something......
🤔Why is it that people make mean an unnecessary comments? Someone who may not be as "electronically experienced" is simply sharing what he believes may be interesting or useful to someone. Constructive comments are welcome, but pompous, arrogant and useless comments should be kept to one's self. They only serve to make others shy away from posting for fear of ridicule!!
Funny back in the day we really didn't like the hotta or bikes like it as we really didn't think too much about areo dynamics that much, or power to weight ratio
My 1970's ('73, I think) black Schwinn Continental (now with some 80's Aero bars wrapped in pink bar tape, with pink tires) is a "retro" bike..... While my 2019 (I think) Fuji Sportif LE 2.0 is a modern bike for me. (Because I couldn't afford a more costly or better bike at the time) Living in Chicago, you have to worry about getting "bike-jacked" (like being carjacked, but on a bike), or having it stolen from in the garage or back porch, so you have to be weary. The streets (constant potholes, cracks, damage, and debris) also are not conducive to steady riding. Traffic, is the same everwhere...except for Denmark.
@@gcn When you can't get reasonably priced spares to keep the bike running, concerns mass produced bikes anyway, where extended life span is expected, to some level at least. I know I know nothing but I wish Si would wear gloves. First thing you do in an everyday off is stick your hands out. Sorry, mate but that's my view. Perhaps I've missed an earlier vid that suggests - like when being tackled in junior rugby - you keep your hands in and roll with it....
@@gcn yes and keep doing this. Recently you posted a compilation of adventure/challenge videos that I rewatched in its entirety even though I had seen the original videos.
Do you also love old-fashioned vintage bikes? 🚲🕰
Yes! The perfect pub bike 😉🍻
Oh yeah, real bike-porn. 💖
Next time 2+ hours "L'Eroica" pls.
I'm a history buff for a lot of things so heck yeah
That is an absurdly broad question. A Raleigh Chopper? A Colnago Master?
I own 4

If you’re able to hold a conversation at z5, you aren’t in z5.
We're true professionals 👌

The Hotta looks great,it's aged well but vintage bikes are awesome, they have so much character.💯👌🏻🚴♂️✌🏻

I've just gotten into biking about months ago (Gitane GTN300) and am genuinely impressed with what goes into making, maintaining and riding ❤
Great production, thanks for compiling it together!

What do you mean on his own power? You just said you know he was full of PEDs. Romanticising these people is so daft
And again! Love these compilations , thanks GCN
7:58 "Front end flexing" lol that was the entire bike
“It’s frustrating riding at average speed”
-proceeds to be absolutely gassed after the climb 😂
I still have my Hotta but I fitted mine w/Specialized Tri-spokes frt & rr.
Nice one! 👌 How does it hold up against modern bikes?
Thank you so much for including my favorite in this compilation: Ollie on the Canning-special, exclaiming that after flipping the wheel his gearing feels 'positively MAGICAL!!' It's almost as lovely listening to his griping as it was watching Lasty's pain face.
Hahaha all classic GCN moments 🙌
Good job talking through that climb toward the end of the ride talking about indexed shifting!
I love vintage bikes!
We do too 🙌
Still love my Cervelo SLC-SL. A bit like triggers broom, all that remains is the frame and seat post. Everything else upgraded over the years. Shimano Ultegra Di2 now with Zipp 404 and Hambini racing BB.
Nothing is Hotta than this! ❤❤
Ayyyye! Nice one

Sick bike!
👍and FIVE GOLD STARS!
Midnight sleepers will looooove this
Turbo lovers too 😉
Big Respect Hank. All About the mind Set .
Better you than me though 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👊🏿

I have a 2004 Soloist Team. Campagnolo Centaur. Still ride it.
Bianchi Mega Pro XL + Campagnolo very nice 🔝🔝🔝🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹👏👏🏻👍
The cervelo I remember back in 2009 where I'm from there was a magazine that listed technological marvel. I remember the s3 was on it. I was only 9 at the time
I want that Hotta!
If I could ride or own any bike from this list it would be the updated Hotta and Jan Ullrichs Not Giant. Both are works of art.
Still prefer the older Reynolds frames with chromed lugs and dropouts.
And... the knurled Campag Record rear mech.
But the downtube-mounted levers ... not so much !
My last bike was a Scott Tinley Tri-Lite, talking about antique. lol
Classic not antique 😉
That Spinergys are seriously damaged... 1:45

No cervelo bikes?
LOTUS = Lots of Trouble Usually Serious
Didn't they say that it was a "Lotus 108" at the beginning, the call it a 110 later in the episode ???
Dam, in early
Nicely done!
Why isn't someone making these today???????????????????? Looks like an easy frame to mold in Carbon..could be made in two halves perhaps?
Every bike from the last year or older than that are already retro which is a recommendation to upgrade post-haste. (Source: bicycle industry)
For you, at what point does a bike become "retro"? 🤔
My 1970's ('73, I think) black Schwinn Continental (now with some 80's Aero bars wrapped in pink bar tape, with pink tires) is a "retro" bike.....

It's hotter than a Hotta.
Bikes that do not fit increase crash odds.
Helments were not needed from 1880 to 1998.

If you ride a real bike long enough you will develop the strength to turn those gears.
La vida es mas facil en bicicleta
Could the extra heart rate on the Pantani bike be due to the excessive amount of cocaine that is required prior to the ride?
Si is soooo hot. Black color cannot hide it :) just saying
I'm sure this is a re-release, I've watched it before?
Bingo! We've lumped loads of our videos together so you can have the perfect background to your day 🙌
The hotta isnt an antique, its vintage. 30yrs=vintage 50yrs=antique
Though to the race inclined 30yrs doues feel antique.
I am sorry but I have a 1999 CERVELO SOLOIST
how hard cycling use to be part, the fix riders do this everyday, thats why there stronger riders and paddle better then eny roadie
Barcelona=Barceloner
You guys really need to find another word other than “However”
I'm sure this is a re-release. GCN is on the demise.
Don’t you see it’s a compilation of pre-released videos? It even says so in the title.
Summertime! Folks are on vacation.
This is just extra content 🙌 We'll still be making the same amount of new content a week but we like to pepper in some spice for you all 🔥

👎 on comment; 👍 on compilation
I wish you would stop using kilograms and use pounds even though I’m Canadian I have no idea what kilograms are!
1:17:40 Let's see what breaks first: Classic Campy Record or Shimano Dura-Battery Di2
