@@martinaparijooldschoolbmxp9388 you have been through so many things and all your experiences and everything you have done through those decades of BMX history would be worth sharing imho! I don’t think I’m alone when saying this but I’d like to hear the Chairman talk more!
I think we all have a chain story. Mine was a keep out chain fence that hung across an old dirt road that I thought I could bunny hop like Cru in the qualifying round. Let’s just say the chain was a good foot off the ground but my back wheel only came up 3 inches 😝
😂 😂 😂 slightly traumatic!!! Thanks to the bmx gods for watching over you 🙏 otherwise we would not have had your unofficial Oscar winning performance from RAD!!! 😎
same thing happened to me but it was lighting fireworks and running through a neighborhood at night to get away from anyone seeing us as they were illegal to light in our state. so i caught my neck on a guide wire that holds a telephone up. it comes down at angle and hooks to the ground 15 or so feet from the pole. caught my neck and flipped me around and even left red and cuts. scared the crap out of me. and hurt.
This story reminds me of a similar crash I had leaving the bar one night in 1999, except the chain clotheslined my mountain bike out from underneath me at speed. I ended up with a nasty head injury and almost burned the house down when I got home, although to this day I have zero recollection of how I got there, or my failed attempt to cook supper. Had my roommate not come home the next morning I'd most likely be dead from smoke inhalation. Don't drink and ride, kids!
Those looping chains were the devil. I tried bunny hopping one during the early mtb era. The chain grabbed the back wheel and rolled the bike backwards slamming me with extra force on the ground. Ripped my ear halfway down which is still scarred at mid50s.
I seem to recall, this would have been back around 1985 or '86, reading either a Freestylin' or BMXA an article and I could have sworn from my memory that it was mentioned that you did a FRONT flip on your bicycle. Is true? Or could it have been another rider. I seem to remember that you were out riding with someone, maybe hitting some dirt jumps somewhere when it happened. Does anyone else remember that article?
Please share more stories with us Martin!🙏 Such memories are priceless, would love to hear some more!
Cool
