Sadly never got to meet Fletcher or hear him live, but I definitely wore out every recording of him...more than once. I did however get to meet & spend time(while visiting London 1987) Michael Laird and Raymond Premu. Both were very friendly, and giving of their time. A few years later (around 94) got to hang with Raymond at music conference in Kentucky where they were giving a sneak preview of his Tuba Concerto (written in memory of Fletcher) and once again very free/giving of his time. Had coffee with him one morning and beer with him on night at hotel bar...some of the best lessons are over a beer or cup of coffee.

一番好きなテューバ奏者です。
ジョン・フレッチャー氏の演奏した、ボーン・ウイリアムズ作曲の「バステューバ協奏曲」。
アンドレ・プレヴィン指揮、ロンドン交響楽団での演奏が、初めて聴いた演奏でした(もちろん、テューバはジョン・フレッチャー氏)。
その後、いくつか同じ曲を聞きましたが、上記の演奏以上のものに出会ったことがありません。
この演奏会、吹部の仲間で見に行きました。JPBEみたいなアンサンブルに憧れたんですが。
