Preheating works so that when the car knows you're going to charge soon, they'll prepare the battery by bringing it to the optimal temperature to accept power as quickly as possible, making the charge quicker and potentially cheaper. Usually it means heating the battery up because the weather is cold.

They were very nice folks asking good questions maybe because their boys were interested in getting EVs. There was no disrespect or negativity, just interest in how it works, how it charges and that kind of thing. I find that people along a road trip will talk with you without any negativity, both when I drove a gas car and now with an EV. I love to get out and see the country, talk to folks and get a bit of perspective. It's always a great learning experience. Cheers.
Man, this is why I miss Missouri. I lived right outside of Joplin in a small town called Carthage, and I LOVED it. I lived right outside Carthage before I moved there in a VERY small town called LA Russel, and that was a great life too. I lived on a turkey farm, and farming of any kind is no joke! Aside from the labor, the lifestyle was great, the "Fishin" and "Muddin" and riding four wheelers was fun, but you could do that an hour away from my house in Staten Island, New York in multiple directions. You could drive a minute from my house and hit the outer bridge to New Jersey, I could drive a little on the highway to hit the Goethals bridge into the other side of New Jersey and head upstate, or I could even take the Verrazano bridge and go through Brooklyn and the other Burroughs to go to Long Island or even the Bronx. But the best part of Missouri was the people. Everyone was always o friendly and nice. People will say oh they have a lot of meth heads and like sure okay but in NYC we have a lot of heroin addicts so take your pick drugs are everywhere! The people were always really cool for the most part.
The exit where you almost missed it and then skipped a bunch of cars has been a giant hazard from people almost missing the exit and stopping completely in the highway with their blinker on. It's also well known for Illinois drivers commuting back home from work to slide past that line of cars the exact way you did. 😆
You showed up on my feed..... I live in CA and Tesla is old news. But I drive a plug-in hybrid. Honda Clarity. At the time, I needed to be able to go 400 miles in a HURRY. (aging parents..... it's a situation) My mom has since died and my dad is across town so not quite the big issue. Considering 100% electric for our next car purchase. Probably as a supplement to the fleet. We have an F-350 to haul our fifth wheel, but it's impractical for every day driving. Forget the fuel issue, it's HUGE. It's a real PITA to park. I'd rather park the entire fifth wheel (which is 40') than just take the truck to the grocery store! I like that CA has been installing chargers at rest stops. In my town, they are installing a dozen Superchargers at a time at shopping centers. There's always a Tesla getting juiced up. Hopefully we will have them all across the country. Add a couple at every gas station or even truck stop and the infrastructure would be there. But it needs to be a universal 'nozzle'. If we really want electric vehicles to work, having them all chargeable is key.
This just warms my ❤so genuinely sweet! I am just thankful that you didn't just blow him off but actually took time to explain everything and even offered him to sit in it! No judgement or anything! The man in the overalls reminds me of my uncle so much! ❤😊
Couple years back I was at my local mall here in NZ, my then 12 year old son and 9 year old daughter were both obsessed with Tesla (tbf so was I). As we walked through the mall car park we saw a Tesla Model 3 parked at the supercharger, and both kids were staring just taking it all in. We were on the other side of the car park so couldn’t see the driver sitting behind the wheel…but he saw us and this arm appear from the window to wave to the kids, as the owner hopped out and hollers “pretty cool huh?” To the kids. We then proceeded to spend a good 15 minutes just chatting to this guy about his car, he opened all the doors and happily let the kids climb all through it, showed them the trunk in the front, let them sit in the drivers seat, could not have been nicer. If I didn’t have a positive opinion of Tesla vehicles before then, I certainly did after, literally everyone I’ve met who drives one is so happy to chat about the cars, discuss their experiences and generally just be wonderful people
I love my Kona EV so much. This is a good video to educate people. I am on the west coast and I have learned that I can always rely on Walmart or Whole Foods for a good charging station (plus a clean bathroom, pick up some water, coffee or food while the car is charging). I have not paid for any vehicle expenses for 2 years except the occasional charge when on a road trip. Normally I just use the slow trickle in my garage which costs the same as plugging in a small appliance.
Just want to preface this with me saying I loved the video. Below has nothing to do with you personally, more about the push to go full EV before the technology is really ready. The data is also using a different time of day. As others have said, you did a great job speaking with the couple at the charging stop. Love to see respectful conversations! So... This is based off my car, a Ford Focus with a 2.0L gasoline engine. My car can easily get 30 MPG on the highway, it is a lot better than that but that's an easy number to use, and has about a 12 gallon gas tank. With that I can get 360 miles per tank. If we use the price of the regular gas at that shell station (2.83 currently per Google), it will take 33.96 to fill up 12 gallons. The range to Collinsville, IL Supercharger is about 224 miles. So I can make it with one tank with about 4.5 gallons left or $12.82 left in my tank. The whole trip is about $21.14 to make from Springfield to Collinsville. Without stops Google says it will take about 3 hours 27 minutes. Based off what you said that it took about 10 bucks to charge your battery in Springfield, we can say its about 50 cents a minute of charging. So that's $10 from Springfield - Rolla, $10 from Rolla Collins so about 20 bucks. It also says that it will take an additional 40 minutes of charging, so you would be getting about 23 cents an hour of travel while the Focus would get close to 16 cents an hour. (hours/dollars) I love the technology but I don't think its really ready yet for long distances. I got to drive one down in LA and it was a blast! Around town and if you had Solar at home or a Super Charger nearby I could see it making a lot of sense, charging via solar would be awesome. My car gets pretty bad fuel economy in the city with stop and go traffic. A few years back I ended up driving from Birmingham to Sacramento in my Focus. I was doing about 11-14 hours of driving per day for 3 days. I don't think I would have made my arrival deadline if I had an EV for that trip. I would have had to plan for an additional day of driving with an additional hotel stay. Let me know if my maths don't add up, writing this at 2 am... Thanks again for the video! Just subscribed to your channel. :)
Some people would think it should be illegal to have as much fun as you are...at work...but as someone who has been self employed for too close to half a century, I say go for it. You are 100% right about the need to step out of the comfort zone if you really want to live life.

The early supercharger locations were requested by business owners. Like Holiday Inn, in San Diego we have our original one in Qualcomm's corporate office parking lot.
Over many decades, during which I worked for myself, my corporate friends kept talking up their “security” … until their jobs were gone. The ONLY security resides in doing your own thing. If it’s not working, you will figure it out until it does. Just believe it!
A Better Route Planner! You can input your car, year and model, and plan out your route from A to B! It will plan you through superchargers a long the route, including SOC% and time and % needed to charge to reach the next charger! Seems to be very acurate.
You are spot on about people "Talking" vs "Listening"... even in some rural areas you cannot get a word in. When I meet good people who want to have a conversation I really appreciate it. I've had people "tell me" about my Tesla (and they don't own one) vs asking me about it. Funny the world we live in :)
I made my leap into self-employment after the third layoff I experienced through no fault of my own. Company downsized, company closed my department, company lost the contract and laid everyone off. By the third one I said screw it and started my own small business. The only drawback to self employment is you don’t have any company benefits. No health insurance, no vacation pay, no retirement, etc.
Depending on your business look into sep iras and ask your accountant about setting up stuff like that. Obviously it’s not free like if you work for someone but it’s a tax break at least. There are some options. One of my biggest regret not doing earlier
This popped up in my youtube shorts, and strange because I work there at macadoodles lol. This store also has perks for tesla chargers, 10% off in store purchases, free coffee, free water, or a free small fountain drink.
If your range is getting scarily low, just slow down by 3-5 mph. You'll pick up a surprising amount of range. This goes equally for ICE cars. Air drag is air drag.
Every EV video I watch its always about the range and charging. That just seems to be way more important than the joy of driving. Wish more were about the enthusiast side of driving. My favorite video you have done is the Veloster N video. Pure driving enjoyment.
I paused your video to hit some balls at the range. Your dedication to these videos was motivation to improve my fairway metals from the fairway. Weird analogy. Good stuff Ben.

@@damionbarrett4403 you don’t want to charge it past 80-90% for daily use. You can absolutely charge it to 100% before you start. On the actual trip you rarely want to charge it that high because you want to stay on the low end and hop charger to charger because that is when the charging curve is the fastest but you still can go to 100% if you need the range or you have the time

17:45 - This was a big adjustment moving to the MY for me. People sure seem to react to Tesla's in interesting ways. The worst are the ones that feel the need to race and show off. Seen two very near accidents at 75MPH from people reacting around the Tesla. I've learned to try to not antagonize people around me because of this.
there are just so many things i want to say but i dont want to make this longer than all the harry potter books so it comes down to thank you for proving me right once again. I literally drove that same stretch of MO on vacation two weeks ago. Actually saw a guy wearing a shirt that said, “Uranus Fire Dept. We come quick if Uranus is hot” I giggled inside.
The same thing happened to me in rural Kansas. I stopped at a gas station for some snacks and the cashier asked to go out and take pics for her son. She had never seen one in person before.
I'm currently working in Kansas and I have to say, some of the nicest people live here.
There is somethin wholesome about this video. Bro was nice, took time, answered questions and welcoming. He explained well, never acted like any question was dumb (bc often people act as if what’s a common sense or often done task for them is just that common task/sense for everyone. Like with homie charging up a Tesla, the cost, the time he does often, the people asking never have. It’s not a dumb question any more than if he asked the farmer and a farming question, that to the farmer is a common sense/task question. Yet both sides here were nice, welcoming and seemed to have fun talkin. Neither side seemed to be rushed or annoyed and to enjoy one another. Take time to talk to your fellow people and never know what you will learn or the homies you will make.
That man in the overalls was awesome!! Yes, the Midwest is the best!🥰

I used to word there, that’s my station wagon in the background lol
Midwest people are nice but I’ll tell you what those elders up north in smaller towns like in Minnesota are so nice, the lady gave me a free smoothie saying she didn’t have anyone else to give it to, she was so nice
Gotta love the Midwest. All I've known is towns of 2500 or less. We love to listen and ask questions. We may have a bit of a potty mouth from time to time, but we dont mean nothing by it lol. Lots of love from Missouri!
Hi from St. Joe :)
Came to see how interested the midwesterners were in the car, left inspired by the speech at the end! Thank you!
“Midwesterners”? Trust me, they’re just like everyone else, only nicer.
Preheating works so that when the car knows you're going to charge soon, they'll prepare the battery by bringing it to the optimal temperature to accept power as quickly as possible, making the charge quicker and potentially cheaper. Usually it means heating the battery up because the weather is cold.
The guy in the coveralls surprised me. There is hope for America.
Nice guy.
I fucking love this interaction, it's so wholesome
That's funny 'coz your comment is an oxymoron 😅
Totally agree …my wife has the Tesla to travel to U of A and NAU for the very low cost of $10, and I have the Porsche 911 to take me to the coffee shop in Fountain Hills. We are both living the dream 👍👍 love your M2 😳
I binge a lot of UA-cam and you've quickly become one of my favorites on the platform. Keep grinding man! And I'm taking the "leap" tomorrow when I give my notice at work. Quitting to start a nationwide pet transport business with my Model Y! Will be doing many cross country trips on a regular basis like the one you just did. It's great to see how easy it is with the Supercharger network. Hopefully we can meet up someday when I'm traveling to your neck of the woods!
It is nice to watch because you speak nicely to people esp those who are curious
Yea I'm kind of confused to why people are surprised by this. I had this same interaction 5 times when driving across the country
Watching you talk to that couple I'd just like to say, Thank you sir. You're a true gentleman. Taking your time to stop mid video and speak to them was great to see. Keep up the good work! 👍
When we were visiting CO last month, I saw a billboard that read "Your in-laws are not a retirement plan" & I've honestly never felt more personally attacked in my life 😂
Thanks for doing this video. I have been really curious if Tesla is the way to go. I do love my gas vehicles, but Tesla would be great for local driving. Glad you took a leap to do UA-cam. You are easy to follow with great comments.
I appreciate the support!
You can see those people are honest and hard working by how respectful they communicate.
I've had a number of questions about the tesla cars and charging..... you answered all of them ty
The exit where you almost missed it and then skipped a bunch of cars has been a giant hazard from people almost missing the exit and stopping completely in the highway with their blinker on. It's also well known for Illinois drivers commuting back home from work to slide past that line of cars the exact way you did. 😆
I’m from Pennsylvania, I lived there 36 years before moving to Texas. I want to thank you for being polite and patient with the farmers.
I'VE always loved the rain, we do NOT get it often enough..& it clears up the smog & it's smells super fresh CLEAN AIR!!
We envy you your Super Charger options. The whole of Western Australia (equal in size to the WHOLE of Western Europe) has just ONE super charger!
New Sub, retired military and now drive truck for bands on tour……your well spoken and enjoyed this first video
Drafting though, YES! Very underrated. I once rode a 49cc gas scooter. Drafting was key, but dangerous none the less.
I know that Springfield supercharger very well, and every time I stop there, people just like him come up and ask questions. It's so funny.
Very wholesome video with those two wholesome southerners asking questions about the car.
Those people are so Missourah, you have no idea. Salt of the Earth. My Grandpa used to wear those Key Overalls, good quality.
I found the same thing, I never get tired driving long distances in my MY. The charging breaks really help.
(hours/dollars)
I love the technology but I don't think its really ready yet for long distances.
“I love the humidity” said no one ever besides gjeebs
I’m right there with him. In Houston and I love it. And it’s been raining for weeks. Can’t ask for better weather haha
@@andrewlewis1742 I live in central IL and would take the humidity over the dry heat in AZ
The humidity is good for the body.

Just discovered this channel. So underrated. This content is awesome and hilarious!
Glad you found it and are enjoying the content
Some people would think it should be illegal to have as much fun as you are...at work...but as someone who has been self employed for too close to half a century, I say go for it. You are 100% right about the need to step out of the comfort zone if you really want to live life.
Absolutely nice people what a nice kind of asking.
Hey I appreciate your confidence and strength you have in yourself. You are just at the beginning of your potential. You have all the confidence now.... you need the connections with people that can build your future.
Yea that’s great, apart from risking a ticket for following to close/tailgating, we truckers love having someone following behind us where we can’t or can barely see you. 👍
Such a cool farmer!
Hey Gjeebs, you make the great videos that people want to come back regularly and check out the latest. Something about the easy going basic conversational manner, jokes, a few bleeps no problem. That's what makes your choice to leave the corporate race and connect with us. Thanks much, cheers and drive safely.
Drafting trucks is good for range and cracked windshields....
The early supercharger locations were requested by business owners. Like Holiday Inn, in San Diego we have our original one in Qualcomm's corporate office parking lot.
It usually takes me 4-5 vids for me to subscribe to a channel… you made me come to subscribe in 2. Needless to say, what a happy ending.
Had this rain combined with ice sheets that fall from trucks. Thankfully I was in a bus not doing the driving. Norway could be fun in the winter.
You found some of the only decent people left in Missouri. Thank you for representing us well!
There are good people all over! I love driving through every summer
And of course, 1 minute further into the video you start talking about the roof wrap. Glad to hear it seems to be effective.
Over many decades, during which I worked for myself, my corporate friends kept talking up their “security” … until their jobs were gone. The ONLY security resides in doing your own thing. If it’s not working, you will figure it out until it does. Just believe it!
Nice people, being nice and lovely to see. Heart warming
I did that trip last year from Vegas. 30 days, it was awesome.
As someone who lives in the MO area (Collinsville) this video feels so surreal to watch
Came across this on a short and loved the video. Great conversation with those people and love to see kindness
You are a man of the people, Ben.
Every EV video I watch its always about the range and charging. That just seems to be way more important than the joy of driving. Wish more were about the enthusiast side of driving. My favorite video you have done is the Veloster N video. Pure driving enjoyment.
I love your conversation with the farmer family, such a nice people
I’m live in Beirut and I haven’t set foot in the states(although i plan to, to see the band Tool live).
Having said that this video was so wholesome.
22:12 I clicked to hear about the roof temp wrap.
I'm gonna have to do this too
I paused your video to hit some balls at the range. Your dedication to these videos was motivation to improve my fairway metals from the fairway. Weird analogy. Good stuff Ben.
I just sold my C7 corvette. Rarely drove it. Test Drove a Model 3 and Y, it was love at 1st drive. Third week of July Ordered a Dual Motor LR Y, for the wife... Well, yea, for the wife. Keep up the great content.
What a nice couple.. Hope their boys get the best Tesla out there
With those V3 superchargers I increase the charging limit to 100% so I can take longer breaks
Tesla has made it crucial never to charge your vehicle to 100%!
@@damionbarrett4403 you don’t want to charge it past 80-90% for daily use. You can absolutely charge it to 100% before you start. On the actual trip you rarely want to charge it that high because you want to stay on the low end and hop charger to charger because that is when the charging curve is the fastest but you still can go to 100% if you need the range or you have the time
Good to see you filming while you drive as well. 👍👍👍👍👍
Such a wonderful thing, how genuinely interested they both are, and pretty sure they're excited to tell their boys all about this one. Supportive, open minded folks 🤎🤍
The charger educational moment was amazing thank you!!! That's the type of interaction that will change our roads to be more EV friendly
I need to save up a little bit more to get me a Tesla. It will be perfect for my Grubhub/Doordash and Uber deliveries because I’m online for 10 hours daily. I spend like $50 every 2 days on my 4 cylinder car. I believe Tesla will be a game changer for me and my work.
Probably many others that would work too, GM Bolt's and similar cars which can be bought new for around $28k...
Those nice people are really nice. True, it's very rare to have such an interaction in a big city. Feels almost bizarre.
Glad you had a good experience in Missouri. I am very familiar with your route there.
People in the Midwest and south are some of the kindest people you’ll find. I recently left California and it’s a night and day difference.
I loved those people and your conversation with them!
there are just so many things i want to say but i dont want to make this longer than all the harry potter books so it comes down to thank you for proving me right once again. EVs do not get that 300 mile range as people think. springfield MO to rolla MO is 110 miles, rolla to collinsville is 139 miles.
