For the first time in a decade Blackcomb is closing before the Whistler side. I have mixed emotions, but it will be fun change to ski Whistler through May this season. It does kind of suck that both sides don't stay open into May. The skiing is still so good. This video was filmed on April 9th, a few days before the actual closing day on April 14th. Unfortunately, I have to miss the slush cup and closing day as I have some other commitments. Of course, Blackcomb blessed me with one final powder day before I said my goodbyes. Huge thank you to all the hard working, staff & patrol who made for such a wonderful winter!

April 29, 2008. I had 30+ cms bluebird pow day on Blackcomb nearly all to myself and met a writer for Powder magazine on Spanky's where we skied 4-5 untracked runs in the gem bowls together. The best day I've skied in bounds at a resort.
That sounds like the dream day dude. Spanky's on fresh snow days with no crowds is the best place in the world!

Alright James! You practically had Blackcomb all to yourself. Mother Nature sure made up for the slow start eh? I must give your tree skiing props… I probably have done it in the past but you are making something that isn’t easy look easy! Tree skiing is what we are missing in Europe… snow days are very difficult because you cannot make out the depth perception at all. I wonder if “Pakalolo” was skiable on the day you went? Whistler and Blackcomb have such a huge canvas to ski off… in Europe you need a guide to go off-piste because of crevasses and higher avalanche danger. Congrats on getting all of it 😊⛷
Tree skiing is second nature to us west coasters and i'm so thankful for some depth perecption assistance on those foggy storm days. Pakalolo was still super skiable. The line Teetering that I did is actually right beside pakalolo and requires much more snow.

I didn’t realize it snowed that much. I was there a couple weeks back and it was super icy with lots of moguls but this looks like the dream!
All it takes is one good day of snow!
Cheers James for you content this season. I have loved every one of them from grey ol’ London. You are so blessed to live where you do and makes me want to come back to BC someday real soon. Hopefully the 60 year old legs will still get me down those runs. Keep safe!

Because boots are so hard to put on when they are cold, i put mine on the floor in the back passenger side opening towards the heater ducts, then crank up the heat for the last 10 minutes of the drive. They slip on so easily. 🔥

Hey Dude, thanks for posting all of your ski adventures on UA-cam this year. I couldn’t make it to BC because I had to go to South East Asia. All your footage filled in some of the gaps of my missed year. I’m looking forward to next year when I get out there in person. You’re the man.

Cool last day powder skiing.. Thanks bro .Just ordered one of those bags in Grey also I used your code it worked good, been looking for a new boot bag for a while now, I pack (cram) a change of underwear and full ski gear into a bag and on the plane. I don't care if they loose the my skies and suit cases but not my boots and ski gear I'm skiing when land. It's easy and fun to rent the newest skies the other shit will show up sooner or later..

The snow didn't fill in all the epic lines until late in the season and I did so much travelling this year. Had to play a little catch up this season!

Holy smokes... didn't see that. Can't make out if thats a crack or a slide. LF is known for slides so that's not very confidence inducing.

I think we just get a whole lot more snowfall than the rockies. Lot's more days for me. Planning to ski through July. Enjoy those spring turns at SS & the Lake

I’m seriously thinking of leveling up from my Costco bag I dump my gear for that weekend warrior bag. Made last turns of this season last Friday at lookout 👀 pass. Most local hills with exception of perhaps one (Silver Mountain having some silver Sundays and such ) may be closed for season now. I’ll be turning the DIN down to zeros and putting wax on the sticks for storage til next season.
The WW bag is def more organized than the costco classic. Sad your season is in wraps. Lucky out here to be able to get great turns until July

Yo. Next year, could you ski a mountain called "Marmot Basin"? its located in Jasper, and if you go at the right time, I think it hold some pretty awesome skiing. It is a bit of a drive though, as it being 4h out of the closest city, edmonton, but i think it is still worth checking out. I skid there last weekend, and the spring conditions, were really good. Next year.

Question! Why the flipping frogs foreskin aren't you using merino wool base layers? Smartwool is my go to where they breath, control temperature, and stay dryer than synthetics. Or was that whole washer/dryer segment just a bit?
I use a merino baselayer top from NF which is wicked. For bottoms I use some hybrid synthetics I bought from Costco 4 years ago and they do the job just fine for me. I wash and dry my merino which is probably a big no no hahahaha

Sick video as always! You seem to be on that Unleashed 108 a lot and doing just about anything with it. What do you like most about it?
I really love it. It's honestly just a more playful version of the enforcer. I don't feel like much is sacrificed in terms of stability but it requires less speed and energy to make turns and play around. One of my favourite skis of all time.

Too many P-text sticks to count hahahaha. Probably itching close to 100 days and I've still got at least 2 months of skiing. Whistler closes on the 20th of May and I'm going to Backcountry ski through the summer!

5-0 wasn't looking very good. Took a peak but a few rocks at the bottom could make the straight line a poor decision.

They close one side of the mountain, and leave the other side open until the end of May. Not enough people I guess to keep both sides running.

Yup, I've done crack house many times. There's an open rock in the middle this year which could make the straightline exit a little bit hairy. Very fun line. But not many turns down it LOL

Weird Canadian washing machines
LOL - that's just a me problem hahaha. I've got a bread machine looking apartment sized washer in my place. It's the worst. Barely fits a set of sheets.
Ohh nice bag I def need one of those. That was some mighty fine snow and skiing for closing day which of course is always better when shared with some ski buds. Well it was a strange but in the end good season. You guys had a trip of a lifetime and the best viewing I've had since I don't know when. It might be the end of the season but before you know it, it'll be time to "Rise & Alpine" all over again :-) 🌨❄🏔🎿
Bag is so handy man. Keeps a disorganized guy like me somewhat organized hahaha. Lot's more antics to come, hoping to ski through the summer this season :)
@@riseandalpine Holds the helmet and everything, I've got a black one coming :) I'm with you on that, if there's skiable snow somewhere and I can figure out how to get to it I'm gonna try to ski it if can. Hell if a roof looks steep enough and long enough I'll ski that sucker haha. In the end if it doesn't work out then it's just a good excuse to do some mountain touring and camping so in my book it's really a win win either way. I sense you are the same lol. If you record it brother I'm watching it haha.
