Thanks for letting us spend a day with you buddy. You're doing things right far as I can tell. My plan was living in a van and washing dishes every night to cover costs but I never managed to pull it off so it's great watching you live that dream man, somebody has too lol. Oh I almost forgot here's my half of the gas money 😎
That’s incredibly kind. Good on you for this incredible gesture!
Andy.... You just made me fall off my chair.... Good thing my hair protected my noggin' when I slammed the floor 😂. So grateful for this. I'm living dollar to dollar to keep the dream alive. Life's a long time and I have faith you can live out your van dream one day. Fire me an email with your address... Little ski sauce care package is coming your way.
@@riseandalpine I'll never turn down free hot sauce especially anything "Ski Fast and Burn Ass" but you don't owe me anything buddy. Just happy I'm able to not only help someone achieve or live their dream but to be able to experience even a little part of it is almost priceless to me. Don't worry about me. I had my window to try 20-30 years ago but I wasn't in a good starting place and there just ended up being to many obstacles I couldn't really get around at the time. We didn't have YT or anything back then to help with revenue though revenue isn't always certain it that either as you know. Many have tried the ski bum lifestyle in various forms but not many have been able to sustain beyond a season or 2, it's not easy. I tried so I have zero regrets or tears about it. Rather I get enthused and excited when I can see others do what I couldn't at the time and learn as much about how they are doing it as I can. I say good on them you live that dream as long as you can because so many forces try to stop you it's kind of crazy. I had a short window of opportunity and I tried but life sorta takes over at some point eventually and you gain responsibilities or others who depend on you and one can get tied to a place a person or a job etc etc. After my attempt I eventually settled on a plan where if I could work smart enough and hard enough I'd earn enough money to set myself up so money wasn't the biggest problem. I was literally about $5k away from being able to do this in 2007. Guess what happened? 2008 financial collapse, f me haha. Then in 2012 I took care of my stage 4 cancer mother until she passed in 2014 and spent all of hers and half my life savings doing it but I would have spent it all and gone into debt to save her if I could and we certainly tried. Honestly her passing took the wind out of my sails for a few years then of course the pandemic comes along and we are where we are. Such is life but I don't give up that easy haha. Been working my way back ever since and I can see the light getting a litter brighter all the time as the pan is working it's just way slower than you'd like lol. I'm hoping I'm 3-5 years out but it will probably work out to 6-9, either way I'm doing it before I'm so old I can't. Even then as long as I can find someone to drag my old ass up the hill I'll just slide on my dang belly if I have to lol. The only real sad part and it's not actually sad given the sate of the world and all is that the last time I got to ski was Jan 2001 at Alta Utah. One of my favorite ski areas with crazy deep soft as air powder it's just mind blowing. It was freaking glorious I tell you. Ahh, you know that feeling I'm talking about 🙂 I just didn't know I wouldn't be able to get back for so long or that so many things would happen to get in the way. But it is what it is you just have to keep fighting for your dreams and you will eventually get there. Maybe not how you wanted or when but you will get there, I have zero doubt. So if any of you younger folks can get anything from all of my old gezzer babbling, I hope it's that your dreams are important and you should never delay in trying to achieve. Their is no shame or regret in trying and failing. Failing is learning and that is always a successful endeavor whether goal achieved or not, you just refactor and try again. Btw I'm 54 not really an old gezzer but I've experienced been thru and learned an awful lot in a short period of and it's always made me sound much older than I am though I am catching up hahaha. All right that's enough of me taking up space on your channel. God bless you for sharing buddy! I hope you and everyone who reads this can achieve the success goals and dreams you've set for yourselves in life. It is 100% worth it. I don't know, I like the jockster poster me more than the serious poster me hahahah PEACE!
Dude, I'm so proud of you for taking the plunge and going for it. You're my fav ski content creator!
I don’t even like content creation or videos like this one, but James is a good dude and I support him.
@andrewbryan144 Thanks brother. So grateful to have been able to survive off video making through the season. Will pickup work in the summer to bridge the gap and go for it hard again next season!
@nickv3085 Appreciate you man
It looks like the youtube algo has been a bit kinder to you recently and it's fully deserved. Really enjoying the videos. Love and support from the UK
Thanks Bigjerm!
Love the behind the scenes footage, I always knew Liquid Courage was part of the secret sauce but seeing your whole routine is sweet! Glad to hear you're full time Rise & Alpine, that's a win in itself😎
Thanks AJ! Feel super lucky to have been able to focus on skiing and videos all winter long.
Great video! Maybe use this to fix the burnt out indicator in your truck (12:48) 😅, or it could be around 1/9 of a gas tank. Keep it up!
This is super kind of you. Thank you for helping keep the machine moving!
Started watching your vids last year to amp myself up for a trip out to Whistler. Been here ever since. Keep livin the dream man
So glad to have you along for the ride!
I could feel my quads burning in that snow snake .. and then getting to the end and stretching the legs out on your toes. This type of video is good for the trolls who will say you are just a youtuber and don't work hard at all. Bullshit - your hard work is evident in your killer videos and continuous quality content.
Oh almost forgot -- that top of The Peak chair as it approaches the top of cliff -- brings back memories of when I was there early 2000s need to make it back. Loved the terrain off that chair.
Stay Spicy.
Thanks. I've put my heart into this channel and glad you all can feel that. I worked hard before UA-cam and work even harder now but love every second of it. That Peak chair cliff is iconic. That feeling as you come over knowing you're going to have a kick ass lap, especially on a pow day is unbeatable. You know what I'm talking about
Love seeing the behind the scenes raw footage. That's some seriously crispy snow. Glad you didn't stay in the trees. Great content, thanks for sharing
So glad you enjoyed it Dana!
could we get a tour of the quiver? would be a great video for the not ski season
Would love to do a quiver tour/review... I went from zero-100 real quick this season. Never thought I'd be equipped with every weapon I'd ever want. Thanks Nordica!
Thanks!
Really appreciate that Scott.
My partner and I met in whistler 5.5 years ago and had the most magical 2 years there, and since your UA-cam channel I have vicariously lived there through your videos. Thank you so much for making that a possibility and bringing me so much happiness each week.
Stefan! So lovely you met your partner in Whistler. The perfect love story if you ask me. It brings me so much joy that I can spread happiness through ski videos and make someones day/week a little better. Always motivating to hear kind words like that!
Hey man. Quick thing to check in regards to your truck radio. You might have a shot fuse. Your owner's manual should have a whole layout of your fuse panel(s). Just gotta figure out which one is related to your radio. Replace it and see what happens. There might even be a couple spares already in your fuse panel.
If something else stopped working at the same time as your radio, thats a pretty good chance it's a fuse, and both circuits are on the same fuse.
Thanks for the tip Jimmany! Just tried to flip the fuses with the extra ones in the truck. Worked for a few days then the same probelm. Wondering if there are some connections that are off. I saw someone put the radio in the oven online instead of finding the connections that need to be re soldered.
The end part about unloading gear and bringing it up is too relatable.
I'm glad I'm not the only one 😂
Love u man keep it up don’t quit please ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks Ed. Really appreciate the support. I'm not going anywhere!
Can’t believe it’s almost summer as well my dude! Glad we got the season we did!! We still got a couple weeks left of snow!! Thanks for the BTS!!
Gas is only 1.39 where I live in Alberta! 😮😮
Glad you're still hanging out on the snow - so many reasons to move to Alberta!
@@riseandalpine Don't lol the people here are miserable
Thanks for taking us behind the scenes! Some of your night before prep looks familiar 😃 I'm the same way in that I need to leave everything ready to go, because otherwise I can't get out of my own way before I have coffee. BTW.... the boot dryers at 1:27 are the best!
Glad to hear you've got similar systems to me... Those boot dryers are the saviour eh!
That was most interesting! That crunchy mogul run down to Snow Snake was exactly beyond my capabilities. Lol. Snow Snake was absurd! 😂
Good to see you play some guitar!
Not to run on, but that drive is beautiful. Your situation is unusual in a pretty cool way. Living in the city, and having Whistler/Black comb les than a couple hours away.
Nicely done!
That drive is always beauty. Vancouver is a really special place to live. Also, I'm still trying to figure out what the heck that guy was pushing across the road. Any ideas?
LOL. I watched that section several times and I’m not sure what to make of it. To me it looks like the dude was clearing a chunk of burning wood off the road, but that begs the question:
WTF would a chunk of burning wood be doing in the road in the first place?
It’s possible a tractor trailer had an overheating brake which caused a tire to burn off, but that seems unlikely.
Besides, the smoke from the burning object was grey. A tire would make black smoke.
In short, I’m stymied! 😂
As an avid mountain biker and snowboarder, I must say you absolutely slayyyyed that snow snake man! So sick!🤙🤘
Thanks Alain! Could have used some softer snow but we still made it out with the quads in-tact
James, your combination of personality, entertaining content and great skiing can't be beat...once again an outstanding nonstop watch!
Hey - I thought the rocker 2's were in a snowbank somewhere!
You remember the Rocker'2 toss eh? You've been around for a while. You'll love an upcoming video in a few weeks. I bring them out of retirement and things get crazy 😂
Right on.
You should do a video trying out snowboarding before the end of the season! Love your content brotha
God no! We don't need him breaking a wrist or tailbone!
I tried snowboarding a bunch when I was younger. I think I should stay in my lane hahaha. Maybe I could mess around in the park though. Haven't pulled the park skis out in 6 years
@@riseandalpine a terrain park shred video would be legendary! Get those bad boys out asap
"Did you have a good day at the office, Dear??" LOL! Phenomenal fun video---and fascinating. You DO have a lot of work, though! But it's part of the job! I was making some of those crispy turns with you--and about to jump from my chair at a few points!! I remember some of those runs--and I remember my twin and I doing that drive from Vancouver to Whistler in a rental car. So beautiful!!! We were in Heaven for two weeks!! Blackcomb was the new baby in town--we loved it. Please do more impromptu videos--it was a terrific idea! my best! Lynn in NYC
So cool you and you're twin were skiing Blackcomb when it was first getting cut! That drive never gets old. Love hearing your awesome memories.
You have found your calling.
Love your content
Im snowboarder who lives in the UK and you make my day when im not able to ride.
Thank you 🙏🏻
So happy I can help fill in those gaps when you can't be on the snow! Really appreciate you tuning in.
This day was the week I was up at whistler, I remember whistler bowl being beautiful haha. Keep up the great content man!
Glad you got a wicked week up there!
thank you for another awesome season. you inspire me to push myself and ski hard but to always have fun and enjoy it. thank you.
Thank you for tuning in. So glad to hear I help inspire you to challenge yourself and have fun on the snow.
Yer nice
It’s all about rhythm
My ski week starts at sat 4am drive 4 hours have breakfast then drive another hour to the snow
Ski the day then camp
4 days ski the 3 days work
Ski work ski repeat
Like you I ski all conditions I love how the season changes
Sounds like you have a beautiful system dialed. 4 days skiing and 3 days working is ideal. Glad you like all conditions as well. Skiing whatever the mountain hands you is fine by me. Good skiiers can enjoy all conditions!
Last year you ran a tutorial showing how to store ones ski equipment. After your mishap with your din setting not being re adjusted I thought an additional step should be added. Simply put a piece of masking tape on your ski reminding one to re adjust the din. We all get a little too excited on that first day so being forgetful is natural.
Love your work.
Dude... Amazing tip. Going to do that with all of my skis hahaha
@@riseandalpine I'm here to please. Besides that ,I have many years of experience to call on.
Snow Snake King! I love your vids James, it’s your BIG personality that makes it so entertaining, and your buddies too.
I live in Ireland, but I used to live in California and ski Tahoe. In all time in California I never once was tempted to eat Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich, but man after watching this vid and seeing the number of times you’ve consumed them, I actually just made one and tried it. It wasn’t as gross as I thought. Maybe you should get a Peanut Butter company to sponsor you 😊.
Anyway, thanks so much for sharing A day in the life of a Ski UA-camr 🤘
James... It's simply an honor that I guided you into your first PB&J sandwich. A Peanut Butter sponsor would be the ultimate dream. Thanks for the comment brother.
I've been told that washboard, bumpy runs are great for your bone structure. Good reason to keep on skiing the nasty stuff
The crack of doom 😂😂😂😂
Just loved it. All the hard work you put to produce a video. A day in the life of a simple guy. We must have being there at the same time, I also say that guy pushing the fire of the road on my way back. Keep it up..
No way! You saw that guy too? What do you think it was? It's killing me that I couldn't figure it out. At first I thought it was a tire but his car seemed in one piece.
@@riseandalpine No idea. Maybe a cushion burning ass.🤣🤣🤣
Great job Man, keep it going! 👊🏼🍻
Thanks Paul!
killer stuff...
Awesome look into the work behind the scenes. Keep up the good work!
Glad you enjoyed this one Patty
Really interesting video, had no idea you have to spend so much time editing and stuff. Thanks for all your videos, please do a food tour of whistler, “where the locals get their best snacks, burgers and stuff”. Cheers
A food tour sounds tasty.. Too bad it's so expensive to eat in the village!
It takes a lot of effort to record and edit first person ski videos on my channel and Its just a hobby for me. I can imagine to get the kind of pro quality here and editing multiple videos together would be very difficult, stressful and time consuming. It would become a job like any other, but still more fun than being in an office!
So much more fun than being in an office! Wouldn't change it for the world :)
I love your unending stoke and energy in all your videos no matter the conditions !👌
Thanks Katy... There's just something about skiing that gets me so jazzed. Once I bang out my first turn of the day, I'm buzzing for hours after I get home
Solid szn! Gave me a bunch of new approaches to Whistler for my 2-3 weekends a year when I head up from Seattle. Also enjoyed the SE BC series, some sweet spots over there that made my list because of it. Keep doing it!
Thanks Luke! Stoked you liked the videos from my road trip as well. Hopefully I can showcase some even more cool resorts next season.
The hard work shows. Well done. Need a blooper real like Mr Miller Style.
Thanks Gavin. A blooper reel would be hilarious!
Great concept. Excellent execution. The longer the video the more there is to enjoy. 👍
Thanks David! Glad you loved watching this one. Would love to make some more long stuff if people are digging it!
I really enjoy your ski content. Missing the season already.
I feel for ya! We got a few more weeks out here on snow before the sk'eesonal' depression kicks in
that sunbeam coffee maker is the best value money can buy. Got mine for like $19 at walmart. Had it for years now and it's always reliable.
Dude! Hilarious. I've had mine for 6 years so far
this is spot on. It's the kind of video I wanted to watch. perfect topic/timing.
Glad you liked this one Sam!
@@riseandalpine thank you!!
Hell yeah James.
Hell ya brother
I think Pink Lady apples are my favourite.
They are a contender, but land a little too sour for me :)
Don't get me wrong, I love the ski content. Are you planning on bringing back the hiking content this summer?
You bet! I'm hoping I get out for lot's of awesome hikes
You are the best man!!! We love you in Ontario.
Onterrible!
Thanks Dave!
Also when it’s time to retire the f150 consider midsize I had an f150 and went to a colorado and it’s so much better off-road and the fuel economy is about 12L/100km instead of 16-18 with the f150. I still have a 6’ box and room for all the gear but it’s about $60 less to fill and goes the same distance.
The fuel economy savings and smaller wheel base would be sick. But I wouldn't like travelling in a Midsize. Ridden in my buddies taco and my head rubs on the roof with my hair tied up 😂. Love the space in the backseat for all my gear. Also another big reason is when living in the truck with my GF it's nice to have the extra space as well.
Thanks for the videos all winter it was awesome. Do you have any other job? How do you survive during the summer? God Bless you.
Thanks for watching them! I was always working full time before this season so would work through the summer. I picked up full-time work from May-Sep to bridge the gap this season.
Man I love the little bits of comedy in your videos.
Were you able to find your Insta that you lost
Thanks Deniz. Still looking for the insta360 unfortunately.
Snow Snake 🐍!
Gettin' the wiggle on
The bridge signalling is actually really simple: whichever direction you're going is 1 lane. ez
Damn that's a long export time, down the road might be worth looking into a more powerful computer to speed that up, at least if you find yourself wasting time waiting around for it
10/10 agree on the elevator though, i refuse to make 2 trips. i keep my skis in my apt though, so it gets a bit difficult. part of why i always ski with my bag, i can pack most stuff back up into it so i only have to hold boots+skis+poles in-hand (and sometimes my shells)
"whichever direction you're going is one lane" 😂😂😂😂 Dying laughing. Glad you're a one tripper up and down the elevator too!
James… GREAT VIDEO!! First off driving through Vancouver traffic is NO JOKE! Urban planning in the early 1930’s would have done some good eh? I admire how one huge PBJ gets you through all that… you’re skiing hard, hiking up Flute and not stopping the whole day! I was wondering how damp your Enforcers actually are? You should have been feeling that crispy snow in your bones. AWESOME JOB skiing the snow snake on Shale Slope… I have had two micro fracture operations on both knees, no way I am skiing that. One big difference between you and Lucas Catania is your joy for carving. I enjoy watching you glide down the slope, you make beautiful carves and carry the speed 😊. The drive along the “Sea to Sky” is amazing especially when you drive back to Vancouver. Your vlog should be nominated for “BEST LONG FORM DAY VLOG”. I watched and the enjoyed DA WHOLE THANG!
I need to win Euro Millions. I will help you out with the gas… it pains me to see you have pay that every time. In Finland (currently) one liter is €1.85. Can you imagine if there was ever a high speed rail from Vancouver to Whistler? I guess trains are just a Swiss thing 😊⛷
I don't find Vancouver traffic all that terrible other than the obvious choke points. Within the city, traffic is manageable until you have to cross a bridge, but even then... it's nothing compare to comparably sized American cities. Although, a more more rail lines right of ways in the 30s would have been MOST welcome as well as city councils who actually preserve them.
Thanks for watching every minute Alain, that is the ultimate compliment! A high speed rail would be amazing with a stop in Squamish, Whistler and a few Cars for Mountain Bikes and Ski gear!
shredder!
Next season do a trip to Japan the yen to CAD is the best it’s been in 20 years.
Dude great idea. Japan is on the dream list!
Bruh 🤜
#1 🏆
This was good. More like this would also be good.
Would be happy to do some more long ones. Specific topics you would like to see?
Well I think you have established a few sub categories that should expand. Visiting resorts to get the goods. Whistler charging. Bushwhacking/ski mountaineering. I would include more of the mundane logistics of being a functioning ski addict. You kind of already do this right? Maybe more of that stuff mixed in.
Royal Gala are my go-to apple. Least favorite: Fuji... those things are horse food.
At least you didn't call my beloved Ambrosia horse food hahah
11:24 lions gate always going the other way than the way you're going....just the way it works lol
It's science!
👍
Hi there! Awesome video. Just curious, how many ski days you had this year on Whistler and how much money you spent on gasoline in a season? Cheers!
I think I'm pretty darn close to a hundred day season across all the mountains I visited and whistler days. I'll have to crunch some gas numbers... But probably thousands of dollars. Probably between 7-10k.... no joke
hold on hold on.....No PSD? Pre Ski Dump.... you are ticking time bomb with all that roughage and coffee
I took a PSD at the gas station. Or I PSD at creekside before loading. Sometimes twice 😂. Thanks fore reminding me that i forgot one of the most important details of my ski day LOL
Here in California gas is over $5
That's mental....
Perfect!
Now I know EXACTLY what to do when I start my channel!
Muuuuuuhahahahahahaha!
In other news, 100% ambrosia evangelist here. About 1 a day for me; sometimes 2 a day if I'm having apples with peanut butter.
Don't waste your money trying the Cosmic Crisp apples (a new hybrid variety); they taste like cotton candy made out of aspartame.
But do try Adam's Dark Roasted peanut butter. It's just nuts...in every regard. But seriously, don't sleep on the Adam's Dark Roasted...
Thanks for the PB recco, I'll give the dark roasted a whirl!
Best apples... honeycrisp or cosmic crisp. Pricey but tasty.
I'm a boarder but I prefer you over the boarder content creators. Keep up the good work.
Cosmic Crisp??? Is this new. Going to have to try and report back. Always love hearing from boarders in the comment section.
@@riseandalpine Yeah it's definitely a newer apple. Where I live it's like $3.60ish a lb, but I'm further north.
If you ever get a chance I'd love to see you try skiboards. I use to ride those back in the day and they're a lot of fun.
that was a criminaly small amount of jam! have you ever thought of moving closer to whistler or another ski hill?
I promise I'll get more jammy next time. I used to live in Squamish but life is keeping me in the city for a little while. I'm hoping to do lot's of travel next season so it won't matter where I'm posted up.
@@riseandalpine trade in the ol f-fiddy for a van perhaps?
What skis have you used for the late season powder days at whistler.
Nordica Unleashed 108's for the Pow and use the Enforcer 104 or 99 for the fringe and harder days
Can we get your overall score and rank for Ambrosia apples?
If they are properly refrigerated and crisp 10/10 without question. Improper care of an Ambrosia (or any other apple derivative) can greatly reduce the ranking. Maybe in the summer I should start a channel called AppleRankings?
4:38 costco protein nice
If you know you know
clicked on this so fast
Thanks Matt!
Kiwi apples, specially Royal Gala, are the mutt's nuts mate... Kiwis apples are so good that the Aussies tried for years to block them from being imported, and the Chileans actually stole a variety to and introduced them over there.... true story.
While I'm here, what video format are you exporting in? I find the quality degrades substantially when exporting the final product to YT.... H.264 or 265 just loses too much quality, and then even more is lost with whatever YT does with compression... are you able to give up some trade secrets?
Cheers for the ride-along mate.
Need to try a Kiwi apple. Where can I find them?
My export settings are H.265, 4k, and 100mbps.
Everything is filmed stock, but a sunny day makes a massive difference.

Edges are for carving both of them.
Yes they are.
Don’t end it with how hard it is to be you tuber
Nope I love it... Ended it with brushing my teeth hahaha

Honey crisp apples might be 100x better ngl
Is there a way I can unsubscribe you from my channel...
You know I'm kidding 😂😂😂. But seriously, let's put this to a vote. Like this comment if you like ambrosia. Dislike it if you like honey crisp.
@@riseandalpine honey crisp clears so easily lol
When do you get time to play guitar?
Funny you say that. I was just telling my dad that I miss having free time to play guitar. Hopefully this summer I'll pick it up a whole lot more.

Everything's gonna kill us one day!

Yup she skis, but not as obsessed as me 😂
