Interesting, and informative!! I’m starting a new job in a sewing department for a furniture company, I am pretty new to this, I’m pretty crafty- but my only exp. is very minimal home sewing. I’m nervous but ready to learn!!!
Thanks for this - I appreciate your tutorials. I wouldn't mind a video of your background (how long you've been in the industry, how you got started sewing, transition to furniture, recommendations for learning the trade and your favorite piece and favorite fabric, etc.).
Hi Malaysian here. Thanks for this , appreciate your tutorials sir. I’ve just started to learn to sew and your channel very helpful and i already subscribe. I wish your channel will always success. God bless you sir.
Hello from rural Northern California! I'm about to reupholster a sofa and two chairs and am so glad I found your most excellent videos! Super informative and fun to boot. The last time I did this was pre-UA-cam, so I learned form a book. Very happy to see your tricks and techniques. Cheers! : )
Hi Denise! Thank you so much for your kind words, I’m glad you find the videos helpful 😊 good luck with your projects! Best wishes to Northern California!
Hi from America. Ilinois near St Louis. Started watching your videos a few days ago. Great job. Haven't started any projects yet - but am looking forward. I'll share you videos with friends. Again, Great Job.

Love your videos. Can you make a video to show how to cut material without a template and also matching large flowers material on a Queen Anne or French Provincial chair?
Hi Neil, love the channel. Been in the trade over 30 years myself but I still pick up some nice ideas on here. What are your thoughts on the Typical sewing machine you use. What model is it. Keep up the good work. Wishing you much success.
Hi Steven! Sorry for the delayed reply! Thank you so much for your support, it means a lot. I’m always learning new tricks too, I don’t think you ever really stop learning in this trade. It’s a Typical GC6-7. It doesn’t have any of added extras like thread cutting and auto backwind but it does the job for me and I’m happy with it and not had any issues. Thanks again Steven 😊👍🏻
Hi Tyler - you might find this video helpful ua-cam.com/video/7D4lySWKsQo/v-deo.html apologies, the sound quality isn’t the best, it was before I had a decent microphone!
@@faceliftinteriors Thanks for that video. That was really helpful to figure out how much fabric I need. However, I'm trying to figure out how to go about upholstering a mid century kitchen banquette i've been building myself. So I don't have any existing patterns to trace the new fabric with. There's lots of good content on youtube for RE upholstering things, but I can't find very much info on upholstering new furniture. Any advice would be super helpful! Again, thanks again for all your content!
Love the video. I just finished sewing my cording and it took all day for two chairs. I used my zipper foot. Can you make a video about buttons. I made #30 prong back buttons and I am wondering why everyone doesn’t use them. I haven’t started reconstruction yet.
Hey! Sorry for the delayed response! If you find prong back buttons easier to use then, go for it! I find buttons with twine easier to use with chesterfields or other sofas/chairs with button backs as the prong backs can sometimes pop out. But for headboards etc where you’re attaching the prong backs to wood then they would fit securely. But they are useful to use in places where it’s hard to fit other types of buttons e.g inside arms. But whatever you find easier and works for you is great 😊👍🏻
Hi from Greece! I have watched several of your videos and you have been a great help many, many times and I subscribed to your channel immediately! I would like to ask you what kind of fabric you are using when you were making the seat-base....the black fabric I mean....what fabrics can I use on that so I won't waste the "good" one. Thank you for sharing your work and knowledge!
Hi Irene! Best wishes to you in Greece! Thank you for watching and taking the time to leave a lovely comment, it’s really appreciated 😊👍🏻 I use standard black cotton platform lining - you should be able to get it at any upholstery shop or online 😊
Hi Stephanie! It’s called ‘Omari Spa’ by Ashley Wilde - it’s a standard upholstery fabric in velvet. It’s a lovely fabric and one of the more reasonably priced velvet options 😊👍🏻
Any tips for sewing velvet? I'm using linwood omega on a sofa and its moving quite a lot as I'm sewing the boxing even with a walking foot. Even with pins every inch its shifting enough to cause the occasional pucker. Only using a domestic machine though so the walking foot is just an attachment and won't be as efficient as the foot you're using at moving the fabric through. Wondered about using temporary fabric glue on the seams before sewing? Any help appreciated! Maybe just need to buy a heavy duty machine!
Hi Sarah! It might be the domestic machine is causing issues with the velvet moving but a few tips I could give you are to staple the fabric together before sewing (using a domestic stapler, not a staple gun!) which should stop it moving so much and also holding the fabric either side of the foot as you’re moving the fabric through...so essentially you’re moving the fabric through the machine rather than the machine doing it all. I hope this makes sense and is of some help!
Hi Harvey! Upholstery thread is more heavy duty than the average sewing thread as upholstery fabrics are thicker and heavier. I use 36 and 40 thread size. Hope that helps 😊👍🏻

Great videos, very helpful.
What width do you cut your piping and were you cutting it up the roll or across? Many thanks
Thanks Emily. Always cut piping on the bias\angle. And I tend to cut it about 4.5 - 5cm wide. 🙏☺️📌🪡🧵✂️
I love it thank you

Is the piping cut on the straight grain? It didn't look like bias cut.
Good 👍

Will try both and let you know. Think i need to invest in a proper machine!
I can't tell which way the straight grain of the fabric should go on each piece. Can you clarify that, please?
Hello, Is there special thread that is needed to do upholstery?
Hi Harvey! Upholstery thread is more heavy duty than the average sewing thread as upholstery fabrics are thicker and heavier. I use 36 and 40 thread size. Hope that helps 😊👍🏻
What kind of table are you cutting the piping on? Is that cardboard?
Hi there! It’s a layer of 6mm ply wood over the table to protect it 😊
how many inches do you cut piping
4.5cm ⛏️✂️📐🧵👌🤓
