The "fast idle" not only controls the high idle speed but also enriches the fuel circuit while engaged. I've run an SU on my shovel for 20 years or more.... gotta love an SU, best carb out there. Nice looking bike you have too.
I HAD a 52 FL with a SU carb on it....I worked General Mills and made damn good money as a 19 yr old....I bet a supervisor (he was an ex bmx rider) that he could NOT start my pan....(not knowing the correct sequence)...he said “kid, I can start ANY motorcycle.” I said “I’ll bet you a grand you can’t” put money down on a new Trans Am the next day LOL
Nice, got to tickle them, I have two 61 pans with shovel heads and SU carbs. One has manual advance, got to catch it on the compression stroke and they fire right up.👍👊😎
It doesn't drop the main jet, it is a separate circuit. That's why they say to knock the enricher off after the bike is running or it will cause an over-rich condition which can foul plugs. Within the last few years, they started calling it a choke, before on all Eliminator l and ll's it was called the enricher. BTW, I'm not trying to sound like an internet know-it-all..... just telling the facts. Call Rivera tech line and ask.
I have a couple old "car" SU carburetors, and when you rotate the choke it drops the main jet down into the body, thus richening the mixture as you say. On this Rivera "motorcycle" version, the main jet does not move when you rotate the choke, so I don't think it actually does anything but open the butterfly a bit. Perhaps that is why Rivera needed to add the tickler pump. The other main difference I noticed between this carb and the car version is that they used a floating needle in these.
I'm new to the Harley family so this might be a dumb but I have been messing with an 82 sportster with same carb and when I turn gas on it pours fuel out of the pump thing beside fuel line so what could be the problem should I go ahead and order rebuilt kit the bike has been sitting over 10 years

Its based on a hif 44 carb. I wonder if its possible to mount a tickler on a "normal" hif44
Hope my 19 still running that good years from now

Great video of a very nice build. Sir if I choose to build a bike like this how much would I have to look at investing if I may ask? Thank you.

You sound Minne sotan ...lol
Do you prefer the SU carb,?
I have a 59 pan with a linkhart and I know it can do better...
Izzynutz Restorations I really like the SU. Have a few of them, and they all start and run great.

Your float is stuck open. Take the bottom bowl off and see why it's not shutting off the gas.
+Winston Wolf thanks for quick reply I'll try that in the next few days
blued pipes not a good sign
