Thats why paul McCartneys collaborating with her? And local legends like paul kelly Shes just capitalizing off a movement Dont fuel ignorance It dont matter if your black, or white
i really like this one ... brilliant voice, just paid for 4 of her tracks... i normally just stream off youtube, but a brilliant artist like this deserves financial encouragement.. :D
@@one2teen - its such a cool surprise when you go to a show; and the support act absolutely kills it; taking everyone wo was clever enough to turn up early by surprise.
I just came here because the full album just dropped at midnight here in the U.S. Great job, Thelma! The entire thing is intricate and very well written. Excellent album that I’m going to be listening to over and over again!
Entire album is solid. Her voice is so amazing. I’m so glad she took her time to put together such well structured album with so much raw emotion. THANKS THELMA!!!!!!!
Lyrically I feel this song on such an emotional level, masterpiece. I can’t believe I can only hear this song on JJJ WTF!? Artists like this should be recognised and celebrated.
I interviewed Thelma quite some years ago when I worked as full time Broadcaster for Koori Radio & Thelma was a young teenager & I thought she was great then & wow has she grown into an amazing phenomenal vocalist/songwriter.
@Judas Iscariot you do realize I'm aboriginal and she is as well right if you read the lyric "if I had lighter skin maybe I would win" it's about what if I change or even be born different would my life be different, fair, easy or even be treated better. The point I'm trying to prove is read the lyrics carefully and look at it from her point of view and dont just listen to 30 seconds of it and make an assumption have a good few listens and read the lyrics it's not promoting racism she's just telling you what she sees.
@Judas Iscariot oh God you are not getting it 😂😂😂😂 shes basically saying what if we was white would people treat her better if not then she looks better in black 😂😂😂
Judas Iscariot Hello, firstly pointing out inequalities that exist today and showing that skin colour may be an influencing factor in determining success is not racist at all and does not fall under its definition. As a person who has learnt about Aboriginals, statistics tend to agree that they actually tend to suffer in areas such as income, mental health, education, physical health, housing conditions, etc, which indicates Aboriginals must overcome these barriers that plague their communities, unlike White Australians. There are clear barriers to success, perpetuated through Australia’s dark history and treatment of Aboriginals. I think it’s sad you think this song is racist at all and you should open your mind to the hardships these people face.
Wow I didn’t mean to sound like a racist, I was just saying I love this song. I didn’t read where I wrote the part about skin colour. If all you get out of this song is skin colour I do believe you have missed the point all together. This is clearly a very powerful song and it’s about herself too not just her skin.
From the bottom of my heart I thank you for these words having my identity stolen from me as a baby I feel this song very deeply ❤️❤️❤️ They took the colour from me but I look better in Black 🦎
Thanks to 666 and radio Canberra for playing Thelma during Naidoc week in the last couple of days. You absolutely rock and no wonder everyone voted for you as the best. Because you simply are. Not just because your a great singer, but because you are a fantastic spokesperson for indigenous Australians and all people whom others think that they should behave or act differently just because of their heritage. Huge respect.
Do you know what it feels like? To get calls in the middle of the night? Saying you're not worth it, you deserve it Go on, have another drink Do you know what it feels like? To get stuck in the middle of a fight? Screaming you're not worth it, you deserve it Go on, have another drink But if I just keep quiet I'll be the one who's lying too Why should I keep hiding, always crying? Tell me what did I do? You took the colour from me, darling, I'll get it back You took the colour from me, but I look better in black If I knew what I know now, maybe I would take it back But fuck that, I look better in black Do you know what it feels like? To be told that you are never right? If I had a lighter skin maybe I would win Does it make you want to think? Do you know what it feels like? 'Cause I know what it feels like! If I had a lighter skin maybe I would win Does it make you want to think? But if I just keep quiet I'll be the one whose lying too Why should I keep hiding, always crying? Tell me what did I do? You took the colour from me, darling, I'll get it back I'll get it back, I'll get it back, I'll get it back, I'll get it back You took the colour from me, but I look better in black If I knew what I know now, maybe I would take it back But fuck that, I look better in black Hey! I look better in black Hey! I look better in black If I knew what I know now, maybe I would take it back But fuck that (fuck that!) I look better in black
So amazing, so beautiful you are Thelma! So super super talented! What a voice, what a lyricists. God bless you Tidda, you are incredible and you are going to go far, aim for the moon! ❤🌈🌝🌟
Love her confident smile at the end of the clip I'm very glad to see indigenous people having their voice heard in general and especially through means like this that can really help with pure exposure, if enough people are willing to engage with her message that is which sadly many Australians still are not, but it can only help. Why do they call it RE-conciliation when relations were never good in the first place? (Not to disrespect movements that have done good for the indigenous people but the wording is not accurate to the history by the normal definition) When will we offer an 'apology' that actually warrants some bonding and strengthening of ties and relations (aka, actual action, actual polices, an actual movement, the chance for indigenous people to forge their own path forwards with agency). When will we acknowledge that the department of child services is the modernized rebranding of the stolen generations (less explicit sure, but we all know proportionally indigenous families suffer far more than other groups in these regards).
This tune has been playing on the jukebox in my head for weeks, but seeing the clip for the first time took it to a totally different level. Just blown away.
I like this video Thelma! Simple, artistic and effective. Congratulations on winning the songwriter of the year award!! Good to hear you writing from the heart.
I think EVERYONE looks better in their skin cause that's how YOU are. 😃 Empathy, character, and humanitarian values are what our species presently needs. Group work and cooperation got us here, so let us continue.

Big respect mate, love your work. Wish you good health and happiness.
I love that it's got this instantly nostalgic feel/sound to it. Makes me keen for the album! :D
The sound reminds me of Stereophonics for some reason.
