    Long post alert🚨
    Some things that helped my super-fine breakage-prone hair finally grow to waist length:
    1) Trimming as I go. When I’m styling if there’s a section that feels off I just trim that part no matter how little. Not waiting for a designated trim time helps me retain length. I still use a flat iron brush on low heat every few months to do an all around trim. I notice I have much less to trim.
    2) Purchasing higher quality hair shears and storing them properly. Scissors that aren’t sharp enough can cause more damage. Someone explained to me that our hair is like glass. If the scissors are blunt they will shatter the ends rather than a clean cut. Scissors should be so sharp that if you touch them wrong they’ll nick you. I also replace them more frequently.
    3) Baggying my ends with Saran Wrap. I add aloe juice and castor oil to my ends if I notice my ends are drying out more quickly than usual.
    4) Going heavy with the moisture and using heavy products to seal it. Using heavier products slows the evaporation of moisture but it only works if the hair is super moisturized. I may use a heavy cream, a gel, a heavy oil/grease to seal. Butter doesn’t work for me. It’s a humectant so while it may feel good initially,after a few days my hair will feel very dry.
    5) Avoiding frizzy ends. I have very kinky hair. But I’ve noticed with my ends if there’s any frizz that’s an early sign of dryness and possibly tangling. So I would immediately remoisturize them.
    For example if my hair is in twists I might undo the last 2-3 inches remoisturize and retwist just my ends.
    6) Wearing a satin bonnet or scarf whenever I’m home. I give myself breaks too but I try protect my hair as much as possible.
    7) Clarifying my hair with a hard water shampoo every few months. Hard water build up will f- up your hair!! It will make you hair mat, cause excessive dryness, and reduce it’s natural shine.
    *Bonus: Because I use heavy products sometimes my hair may be moist for days. My hair seems to like this 🤷🏾‍♀️. I’ve never experienced any type of moisture overload.
    *Remoisturize before rewashing. This may be controversial but wash day while the most moisturizing is also the most manipulation my hair receives. I will opt to keep remoisturizing until my hair no longer accepts it. I will massage an acidic spray and castor (it’s anti fungal) onto my scalp to keep the itchies at bay.
    Hope this helps someone 🙏🏾🙏🏾

    Sis give your hair a little grace. I had to learn that with a full head of fine hair, patience is a virtue. It is so finicky that we can be doing everything right and the ends still need a good trim. Healthy hair is the goal. It’s a marathon not a race.

    To me it looks like there may be some areas of thinning on the ends that are still growing out and being cut off. But the overall health of your hair is exceptional. You may need 1 or 2 more trims to cut off all the damaged ends. But don't be discouraged because the density and luster of your hair is beautiful.

    I would like to mention something I experienced during my hair journey. I have to be very careful during the detangling step because my hair is finer tangles easily. When I’ve gone to stylist that don’t detangle as gentle it resulted in more trim needed. I now stick with one stylist that detangles and washes in sections and my ends now require only dusting or less thank 1/2 inch quarterly.. I can see more length retention… waist length is my goal. I’ve been at midback longer than I like from setbacks and just trial, error and CCCA diagnosis but I’m blessed to have my hair, so no complaints ❤

    I do the same thing, I pre-poo and detangle before going to the salon. I don't feel people handle my hair with love and extra patience as much as I do. I've been doing this from the beginning, even when I had relaxed hair, and now 15yrs natural. I'm just very finicky and picky with my hair. I'm so fortunate my beautician of 18yrs understands me. She even told me she gotta be extra with me because I'm too much. She is a excellent stylist I go to every 4-5 yrs. Oh just to add I like my hair cut when it's blown out straight, this gives me the flexibility to wear it curly layered and straight (very rare) layered.

  • @nAnItEle
    @nAnItEle Рік тому +3

    I know that you are very focused on moisture, but clarifying your hair will help a ton. You can see that the water isn't absorbing into the hair when its wet and that really does a number on your ends since they are the oldest, they then become the most dry. Thats leads to more frequent trims. It feels counter intuitive to clarify, but trust it helps in the long run.

  • @keamber.vaughn
    @keamber.vaughn Рік тому +2

    It looks like your new routine of washing every 2 weeks and stretching with the RevAir is helping improve the health of your hair.
    I think the health of your ends is simply you growing out the damage.
    The same happened to me when I started the same routine 4 years ago when I started using the RevAir faithfully.
    Washing and blow drying with the RevAir every 2 weeks, Flat ironing once a month, and trimming once a month after straightening helped me grow my hair from shoulder length to almost bra strap length in about a year. My hair just retains length so much better when I’m consistent with this regimen!

    Babes, your hair looks great 😍 I've mad a decision (as a thin strand gyal myself) to not worry about the see through ends as much anymore. Because our stands are super fragile, they will break unevenly, even if we're super careful handling them. I'm at a point as long as my split ends are not plenty and I'm not getting mad snagging at the ends, I cut in increments every 6 months. Each hair strand grows out in different rates, so trying to wait till all are caught up by cutting inches every 2-3 months will make the length goal harder to reach. I love how you never stop trying to get to understand your natural hair! It's truly a journey 🥰

    Hi, from my own personal experience, I found that my hair is flourishing since eating healthier, using design essentials haircare products and similar products that are recommended by professionals. I think you might enjoy their almond and avocado line and their almond butter conditioner from their classic line. I think alot of us have fine breakage prone hair so we need more protein in our regime and a protein rich deep conditioner once a month. Also, it's a non popular opinion, but I've learned that silicones aren't the devil in some products like Amodimethicone, which only binds to damage sections of hair. I'm just sharing because it is frustrating, but I'm glad we have so much more information available now.

    Regarding getting a trim on curly or blow dried hair: I went to the salon and was told by the stylist that it is better to trim on blow dried hair because you can more easily see the damage. In the past, I went every 6 months, but I was advised to go every 4. So my next trim will be in July. I'll see how much progress I have made (if any) regarding length retention and growth.

    You and I have the exact same hair type and density. I experienced this when growing out my diva cut. You should definitely try wearing wigs and under that wig wear loose Twist or braids. Heavily moisturize your hair and do henna, aloe, hibiscus & marshmallow root treatments once every month. I find that with our hair type doing too many treatments too often is too much to our hair. It just weakens it. The rice water might be causing breakage on your ends too. I had to learn the hard way to stop. My literally got destroyed it’s just too harsh for our fine strands. I was able to achieve Waist length incorporating these methods. Also I take MSM powder biotin, collagen, fenugreek and a host of other vitamins. I hope this helps. Try to Tuck those ends away heavily oiled and sealed of course. Try to stay away from the wash and go hairstyles and do more stretched hairdos I guarantee you your hair will thrive. Happy to see someone with hair like mine.

    I blow it out to trim. I have too many different textures to mess with a curly cut. I already grow a mullet naturally that breaks my heart every time. I don't need the problems of trying to match my loose textures to the tighter ones too.

    I feel like curly cuts are only meant for girls with loose curls. NOT for women with coily or really curly hair. It’s honestly just not possible to get a precise cut with our type of hair because the coils shrink differently.

    I think it depends on the skill of the stylist doing the curly cut. I've seen a couple who do a curly cut and when you blow your hair out the ends look great, but other stylists do a curly cut and when you blow out your hair the ends are not so great. I'd say if you have not seen the work of the stylist then opt for a cut on blown-out hair.

I do not think we need to trim every 3 months and agree my hair would not retain any length if I did that. I recently blow out my hair to give it a good trim as my hair is past my shoulders. And it’s true we need at least once a year I will be blowing it out next year coz I could see how much I really needed to take off. I took off about an inch all over and my hair looked great for it now when it grows back all that body and shape will grow together. Look after the health and the length will take care of itself. You watch when you style your hair out your gona love it I did 💕God bless 😊🙏🏽

    Unless you came out of a big chop/haircut, trimming ends to get optimal results is going to be a gradual process. That butt length will take years of proper maintenance. Patience is a virtue. But maintaining long healthy hair is not easy.
    Advice: Find a detangling brush that doesn't pull out or break off your hair, maintain your hair & scalps moisture balance, and get trims as needed.

    Im 5’10 and I just got my hair to booty crack length, took me YEARS. I used to go to the stylist for a blowout and trim, but it always felt like they were cutting too much. 3-4 a years ago I just started doing the whole wash/blow dry and straighten myself and just go get the ends trimmed 1 or 2 times a year. For my hair when I blow it out, the ends don’t get “as straight” as the rest of my hair so i think my stylist believed they were split ends and cut off more than necessary cause they were comparing it to the smoothness they were able to achieve at the roots. Totally my own experience with my own stylist. My hair is essentially all one length at this point so it takes like 15 minutes to get done and it’s cheap lol. I don’t like being in the chair for hours to only end up disappointed so it works for me.

I get a professional trim every 8-9 weeks, it’s almost be a year since I’ve been doing this. Good bye to losing an I h or more every trim. Them quarterly trims weren’t enough for my fine, kinky strands. Do I like paying $30 for a dust?? Idk it this might be helpful or if its even part of the problem but one odd tip I have is that it could be your use of braids. I too have very fine "type 4" hair and I notice a while back that braids, especially braiding all the way to the ends, was just too tight on my fine strands. No matter the size of the braids, I would always get some breakage. And my hair tend to be dryer with braids vs with twists. Twist a softer on the strands to me, even though they don't last as long. Even when I left my hair out in a wash n go I would get less breakage than with braids. Just a thought, hope it helps.

    Could I speak on it? I'm team natural and fine. So, I can relate. I have retained so much length because on wash day I detangle my hair only 1 time. So, I wash 2 to 3 times. Condition for 5 to 7 minutes. Deep condition for 15 to 30 minutes.( I rarely use protein. Mostly moisturizing shampoo and conditioner.) After I thoroughly rinse my deep conditioner. I spray my hair with pureology multi-tasking leave-in spray (use a generous amount). Then, 1 to 2 full pumps of Olaplex no.5 for your entire head (focus on mid-shaft and ends). Gently divide into 4 or 6 sections. Detangle each section with a wide-tooth comb. Then, detangle each section with a detangling brush. Style as desired.
