I think for some woman it's about looking at how your future will be financially with that person. If you as a child didn't have much and you've worked hard to be financially stable life its extremely hard to be with someone who will affect that, you also want your future children to have a better life than you did, if you struggled growing up why would you want your children to struggle. Men don't care about "dating down" because there is nothing that will stop them from working unless they get ill but if a woman is the breadwinner and she gets pregnant everything changes financially and she will struggle and that dream she had for a stable life is destroyed. Saying men don't care but woman do is unfair as the outcome are not the same.
